There are fees that are paid at closing, and fees that are paid after closing. There are golf membership options, and there are social membership options. There are dues which apply to improved property (aka, with a home on it), and dues which apply to unimproved property. There are trail fees and green fees and annual fees. Sometimes, there is a temporary assessment in place. Oftentimes, property owners must buy a club membership of some sort. Some of these memberships run in excess of $40,000. DATAW ISLAND UNVEILS RENOVATED SECOND GREEN ON COTTON DIKE COURSE   Changes Result in Improved Playability for Tom Fazio-Designed Lowcountry Course  November 1, 2008, St. Helena Island, S.C. - Representatives from Dataw Island unveiled the majorly renovated second green of their Tom Fazio-designed Cotton Dike course.
