West Chester has many lovely parks.  I was driving past one today and simply had to stop and take some photos.  Everhart Park is located at the intersection of West Union Street and S. Brandywine Avenue, south of W. Miner. This Sunday, 5/1/11 from 11 to 4, happens to be the Festival of the Arts.  This is a gorgeous park, in full springtime bloom!  Look at these photos and you'll realize why I had to pull over.  It's simply gorgeous. As you can see from the sign, Everhart Grove was donated to the Borough of West Chester by Dr. Isaiah Everhart in the year 1905.  You can click here and read about Everhart park and see a map of West Chester Borough, showing all parks and their history. What a gorgeous spot to sit and contemplate how good it is to be alive, especially in the spring.   I hope...

Having grown up in South Philadelphia, soft pretzels are near and dear to my heart.  There was actually a little Italian man who went up and down streets pushing a small pretzel cart most days in the summer.  You could get a regular sized pretzel or you could get a small 3 inch sized pretzel.  The mustard was in a big container with a long stick and he would slather mustard on your pretzel.  I'm thinking 5 cents each or something like that!  The pretzels were still warm from the bakery, crusty on the outside with just the right amount of salt, warm and doughy on the inside.   The pretzel factory of my childhood was located on Federal Street.  The Federal Pretzel Baking Company, according to Wikipedia, was the first large scale manufacturer of soft pretzels in Philadelphia and the United...

It's a gloriously sunny day in East Goshen and today is my day of the week to deliver Meals on Wheels.  One of my all time favorite places to be in the spring is driving around in Hersheys Mill.  This over 55 community is located at the intersection of Greenhill Road and Boot Road and, to my untrained eye, is one of the most lovely and scenic neighborhoods in the area. It's always a pleasure, in every season, but spring is my favorite time of year to drive through the neighborhood.  The trees are celebrating Spring! A wide variety of price ranges, styles and sizes, there's a good fit for everyone here. The gardeners are always planting new trees and shrubs and the grounds are meticulously cared for. If you've been thinking about an over 55 community, you may want to take a ride out to v...

JJ is our family dog, a small cock-a-poo.  He's 20 pounds of pure love and affection and truly the nicest man I know.   There are several buses through our neighborhood every afternoon and somehow JJ always knows exactly which bus Max is on.  He starts to whine as soon as the bus passes our house and will continue to do so until I let him out.  Then, he stands there and wiggles for all he's worth; looking back at me to make sure I'm participating in the welcoming parade.  It's one of the highlights of my day, and I'm sure Max's.  It's hard not to smile at someone who is so clearly glad to see you.   I've been given strict orders not to put this video on the Internet.  I'm assuming Max means on Facebook, so I am complying with that wish and not putting this video on Facebook. I think thi...

Spring has been a long time arriving this year, in my opinion.  It seems to me that we are almost ready to pay taxes and only a few trees are in bloom.   Aside from yellow daffodils and forsythias, there really hasn't been much color.  Yesterday, though, I came across this lovely flower in my front garden bed! There aren't many of them, but they are a welcome sight! Today, while driving through Hersheys Mill doing my meal deliveries for Meals on Wheels, I came across this beauty.   Hersheys Mill is a lovely over 55 Community that is breathtakingly landscaped in all seasons.  Spring happens to be my favorite time of year to drive through this great neighborhood.  With a wide variety of home types and price ranges, beautiful landscaping, walking paths, golf club views and lakes, it's simp...

“Keep East Goshen Beautiful Day” is set for Saturday, April 9, 2011.  I absolutely love living and working in East Goshen.  In fact, our new office is walking distance to the township building.  If you haven't noticed, we are at 1595 Paoli Pike, across from the Wawa and Swiss Farms.   Our brokers, Mike D'Adamo and Mike Santoleri opened our new office during the week between Christmas and January 1.  It's a beautiful buidling and our offices are really something I am proud of. This Saturday, 4/9/11 our township is looking for volunteers to help in a spring clean up. Please call the Township at 610-692-7171 to let them know if you will help, to ask questions, or to reserve a particular stretch of road. Jack Yahraes, a member of the Municipal Authority, and Kathryn Yahraes, a member of ...

I awoke this morning to a blanket of snow!  Seriously?  It's April 1!  I realize that the expression "Man plans, God laughs" is true and I'm thinking we have all planned on an early spring and God had another idea! For this reason, because the weather is so unpredictable, we can not plant annuals until Mother's Day!  That's where I'll be on Mother's Day, when I am not watching Max play soccer, which he seems to do every mother's day... I'll be in my garden, planting my annuals. It's Friday and snowing in Chester County!  We need to take the good with the bad!

What great Spring weather, sunny and brisk if a little windy. Great weekend for getting things done. I managed to stop by the Chester County Antiques Show on Saturday morning: This was the booth of Van Tassel & Bauman Brennan & Mouilleseaux - very eclectic mix but some wonderful pieces   James Kilvington, great pair of 17th century paintings on the back wall. Lots to see around the show with many of the Main Line Antiques Show exhibitors present as well. Next good show in our area is the Philadelphia Antiques Show out at the Navy Yard April 9th - 12th, with The Armory Show in Philadelphia at the same time in April, then the Brandywine River Museum Show the weekend of May 28th and 29th. Later that afternoon, showed a home to a new client and managed to get in a little bit of yard work wh...

Looking for something to do this weekend, make a quick trip to the Westtown School in West Chester PA then slow down and enjoy the antiques on display at the Chester County Antiques Show. Saturday 10-7 PM and Sunday 11-5 PM. As the organizer of the Main Line Antiques Show why am I telling you to visit another show. Frankly, because it is one of the better shows in the area, and many of my exhibitors are displaying their antiques and art so it is well worth a visit. Antiques are one of the major ways you can go green. Go green, yes absolutely, they are already made and most likely on one of the greenest ways possible when they were originally constructed. So if you feel you want to impact your world and your design at the same time you can purchase some furniture, art or something else t...

I live and work in one of the nicest townships in Chester County if I am allowed to voice my humble opinion.  East Goshen Township is not only beautiful, wonderfully located and close to loads of fun things to see and do, but the township building itself is staffed by some of the nicest township personnel I've ever had to do business with.   East Goshen is located just west of Willistown Township and just east of West Chester Borough.  Often called the suburbs of Delaware County, it's about as far west as some folks are willing to live from Philadelphia.  If you are a history buff, the township is rich in history and the township website is full of details.  You can read all about it here.   There are two beautiful parks with walking trails.  There are tennis courts, a playground, baseb...

After several weeks of really crappy weather and not much to be thankful for in the "mother nature" department, the sun has appeared today and while it's not warm enough to bask in the sun, or even lay in the sunspot in my foyer, I'll be thanking God for small favors today.  Everyone on the east coast is really at their wit's end with gun metal gray skies and precipitation and we've just used our last "snow day" in our school district.  After this, they are going to dip into spring break.  But it's Thursday, and I am delivering meals on wheels, and it's not raining, so there's a big reason to be thankful! The internet says that it's 28.2 degrees outside with a "feels like 26 degrees", which cracks me up!  Seriously?  Break out the bathing suits! Now 28.2 °F Feels Like 26 °F Partly Cloud...

We have been deluged with snow this year.  Early yesterday morning and all through the day and night it snowed like crazy here, dumping hundreds of inches of snow on Chester County.  Okay, maybe it wasn't hundreds of inches but it was at least a foot of snow and being stuck in the house doesn't exactly make me feel thankful.  I'm pretty much a homebody but I want the choice of going somewhere.  When the choice is taken away, I can't stand to be home! The roads were cleared and I managed to get to the food store to buy the makings for lasagna and ran into a friend who reminded me that it was Thankful Thursday!  I had completely forgotten!  I forgot last week too and did my post on Friday morning.  (Thanks Len)! The lasagna and meatballs turned out great and I treated myself to big Sicili...
