Originally known as Big Pond, Lake Harmony is a natural glacial lake. The two and a half mile long lake ( Approximately 125 acres) is divided in ownership as follows, Split Rock (Vacation Charters only~not the Association) owns 23 acres which includes the cove and waterfront from the $1 toll to and including the cove. The remainder is jointly owned by LHGroup who's Corporation is jointly owned by both the LHAssociation and the LHEstates. LHGroup owns 14 private paper streets as well as 102 acres below the Commonwealth owned water. Lake Harmony loses thousands of gallons daily from evaporation. Every winter the SNOW enthusiasts crowd into the Pocono Mountains several times during the Winter Season. It kicks off with New Years Eve then quickly runs into Martin Luther King Weekend, followed shortly by Presidents Weekend and other long weekends, most of which you probably already know about. I am here to tell you about one event you may not know about but should know about! Anyone from the Philly area damn well knows of the radio station WMMR. It has been Philly's rock station for as long as I can remember. Twice a year WMMR runs "A Day off at The Slopes" at Jack Frost Mountain. This year the second "Day off at the Slopes" is the one I want to tell everyone about! It is The Cardboard Classic and it is a RIOT!! Well the weatherman overall is right on schedule this year. With a few last glimpses of above average temps surrounding us this week one cannot help but think, "When is it coming?" Anyone who lives here in the Pocono Mountains knows how quickly winter can move in here! One day it can reach upper 40's and the next day you can be covered up to your thighs with the white stuff! Typically the slopes like to open earlier than Thanksgiving and they still may be able to do that however the Thanksgiving Weekend is sort of the official opening (weather permitting). With the occasional snow flurries just teasing us already this season I can't but wonder, everyday as I leave my house, "when is it going to hit?"
