The Reserve at Chester Springs is a new construction single family home community coming to Chester Springs.  The community is in Upper Uwchlan Township in the award winning Downingtown School District. The plan is for Toll Brothers to build 61 single family homes on lots ranging from quarter to half acre.   Last Thursday was Blob day for Town Tours and Village Walks in Historic Yellow Springs in Chester County, Pennsylvania. In 1952, a young film director-producer purchased the historic village of Yellow Springs in Chester Springs and set up studios here. Irvin (Shorty) Shortness Yeaworth, Jr. (bottom right), saw this location as ideal for the Christian and educational films that he was to make with his Good News Productions. He strayed from the strictly Christian movie-making path with 1957’s The Blob, starring Steve McQueen.  On our walk Thursday, a local actor portrayed Shorty and even Steve McQueen's double was there in order to tell the story of the making of The Blob.    Last night Historic Yellow Springs supporters led a tour of sites in the Chester County, Pennsylvania village which were important from 1917 to 1952, when the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts established the Country School for art students. Re-enactors portrayed such early artists and teachers as Daniel Garber (center), NC Wyeth, Albert Laessie (bottom), Roswell Weidner, and Arthur B. Carles, who taught here. D. Roy Miller was an early school director (top left corner), One of the revolutionary ideas was to copy the French "en plein air" outdoor painting, and even more revolutionary--they posed nude models outdoors (shielded by bamboo fencing, but local boys figured out how to peek). Wawa, Inc. had a 9/11 remembrance ceremony this week at their corporate headquarters in Media PA.  The company displayed 3008 flags each with a name attached of a person killed in NYC, PA or the Pentagon.  When you see the size of the field of flags it's a sobering reminder of the number of people killed that day.   The photos were taken by a Wawa employee and reprinted with permission. As part of the Town Tours and Village Walks series on summer Thursday nights, we were invited to share the history of Historic Yellow Springs in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania last night. The Lenape Indians first discovered the springs thousands of years ago, using the healing powers of their iron rich waters. In the 18th century, Yellow Springs was a fashionable spa village that attracted visitors who sought healing waters and social interaction. An early innkeper welcomed visitors to the site. We also got a glimpse of life in 1787, when  a Pennsylvania surgeon suggested to Gen. Washington that sick soldiers be brought here to recover from fevers and illnesses.  All that remains of this early hospital are stone walls.
