We have just returned from a short Veterans' Day service at our local memorial to the fallen in Berwyn, PA where we live. It was attended by some politicians, Jim Gerlach, Carole Rubley and Duane Milne who all spoke. It was a beautiful service with the rendering of the National Anthem, Taps, My Country and America the Beautiful. But those I want to honor today are those who are serving and those who have served. As I stood there my heart went out especially to our Vietnam Veterans, how they must feel to see the support poured out which was so dearly withheld from them. How we mistreated them, harmed and injured them on their return from serving their country. I would just like to say THANK YOU, for your service, for not giving up on your country. With a son in Iraq I am sorry that yo...

Birthday parties and "Ladies Night Out" are some favorites. Holiday workshops are coming up later this month. The store can help with custom designs, as well as repair or restring jewelry. Anyone can wonder into the store and start beading on their own. There is no studio fee, only the cost of materials. You may recall that I taped an episode for HGTV's "My House Is Worth What?" last fall that featured my historic house. In case you are not familiar with the show, each episode features three homeowners from different parts of the country. The homeowner presents what they have done (and spent) to improve the value of their home to a local real estate expert. In our case, this was Dana Zdancewicz of Prudential Fox & Roach Realtors in Devon, Pennsylvania. The realtor then provides a professional assessment of how well the homeowner's efforts paid off in terms of the value of the house in the current market. We have lived in our century old Victorian house for 9 years and have done a number of major renovation projects, including a kitchen and master bathroom. In addition, we have replaced...

Handel's Ice Cream and Yogurt in Berwyn, Pennsylvania is open daily, year round. It is located at 576 West Lancaster Avenue (the corner of Route 30 & Berwyn Avenue). Handel's is a small national chain with the most locations being in Ohio. I live within walking distance to the Berwyn store, so I can personally attest to the quality of their product. It is a frequent trek for my family when we need a special treat! The ice cream is made fresh every day on the premises. In addition to their regular ice cream, they offer a no sugar added variety, ices, and sherbets. They feature seasonal flavors of the month. Right now it is pumpkin. Soon, peppermint stick and eggnog ice creams will be on the menu. If your school or organization is looking for a fund-raising opportunity, check out their we...

Sleepy Tredyffrin Easttown Berwyn is getting a wake up call as developers give it a fresh look. As reported in The Suburban & Wayne Times this week Westrum Development Company is seeking to aquire two and half acres of the Mack Oil property. Westrum has a good reputation for taking brownfield sites, that is sites that have some pollution of soil and developing them. They were recently selected to develop the Paoli Station complex, so maybe they have their eyes on developing along the Main Line these sites that are close to stations. This plan is for 88 housing units in two separate three level buildings in place of the office, storage shed and oil delivery site. However from what I gather through the various articles opposition is growing in two townships, Tredyffrin and Easttown. So de...

Last Tuesday afternoon, one of our neighbors found that her son's Nintendo DS toy and games and her "Chanel" (knock-off) sunglasses were missing from her car. Her garage door was open, but she was at home or at the bus stop waiting for her son. She reported the theft to the Tredyffrin police, who did an outstanding job of follow-up and research and found the items being fenced at a local electronics store and found the culprits who had taken the items. The apprehended thieves were local (not neighborhood) high schoolers (from Conestoga) who admitted to stealing from homes in the Tredyffrin, Easttown, Upper Merion, and Newtown Square areas. The police have asked us to put out an alert to the neighborhood: 1) to request that if anyone is missing items from cars, garages, or homes, please ...

Curb appeal and the role of LandscapingCurb appealWhen you are preparing your Tredyffrin Easttown home for sale you must see it through the eyes of potential buyers. You want that initial curb appeal impact to be a positive one, creating a desire that when they enter your home only increases. Your landscaping can add to that appeal or decrease it even to the extent of having potential buyers drive off without even seeing the inside of your home.LandscapingLandscaping can bring a big impact for low cost, sometimes it requires removing things as opposed to adding. Don't be limited by your property lines look beyond those and see what your buyers see, how can you improve that view. We get used to seeing things and accept them rather than thinking about changing them. For example, a neighbo...
