The buying and selling of properties at Fishhawk Lake was moving along quite steadily throughout the spring and summer and much of our delightfully sunny October. Darling renovated turnkey lakefront A-frame took only a week to sell! An agent was looking for the perfect getaway for her clients as they'd been searching for awhile. Just as this one came on the market I let her know about it and she set up an appointment right away.  Rufous Hummingbird with its tongue out!  I was lucky enough to be nearby with a somewhat steady hand. Ahhh, spring! A birder’s paradise! Time for the zing-zing sound of Hummingbirds zipping by at warp speed! The glitter and shimmer of the Rufous Hummingbird at its whopping 3&3/4 inches in length, it still rules the air with speed and aggression! I've been reading a book called Simple Abundance...it's been around for years, but I finally got a copy of it early this spring. It's a daily missive on simple abundance, whatever direction that takes. June 7th was "The Joy of Living Rooms". I loved this quote of Lucy Abbot Throop:Some living rooms we see have really no right to the name; they are so unattractive they ought, instead, to be called existing rooms. I like to think of the word "living-rooms" being short for the joy-of-living rooms. There are many great activities to enjoy in nature at and around Fishhawk Lake. One of the most pleasurable (and free) is to take a walk around the lake or nearby on Greasy Spoon Road--where a plethora of trails and old logging roads will take you far off the beaten track.  Walking meditations are a way to exercise without it feeling like a drudgery. It gives you a chance to take deep breaths of mountain and forest air, views of Fishhawk Lake, surrounding woods, creeks, and most definitely wildlife! "If it were you, which one would YOU buy?" It's fascinating to me that someone would lay such an important decision at my feet. From an ego-related position, it would seem natural that because I'm the expert, they would throw it back at me to answer that all important question. It's snowing today in the coastal range of Oregon, Fishhawk Lake area...my ranch in particular. I put out all kinds of seeds and peanut-butter covered bread out for my critters. Today, the oh-so-shy Northern Flicker showed up and dug in for some grub!! This particular bird doesn't stick around if there's any kind of movement that it notices. I got lucky by being inside in a darker area where it couldn't see me. Usually their white "butts" are the only thing I see, as they fly away from me! They are quite large birds, measuring about 8" across I'd say.  They can hang out with my Stellar Jays,  Juncos, and Gray Jays and even my Mallard duck couple that come to visit in the spring,  and no one seems to mind.
