I post on a couple of different on-line forums and have come upon the question about crime activity in my area more than once.  I'd like to take a few moments of your time to address this issue here for those of you who may be considering the so-called "Meth Capital of the World" as your next home. Meth Capital of the World! High Crime Rate! What the heck are you people talking about??? I've posted more than once about my peaceful little town of Albany, Oregon.  Crime?  Come on, I've lived in San Diego, Honolulu, and a couple of other 'major metropolitian cities' - crime here is NOTHING like there.  I say that with a 100% straight-face, as a father of 2 daughters, and an active member of this community. So, I'm sitting at a local restaurant one day when I see a guy I know who just happe...

I am curious....how does it make you feel when you call your agent and get their voicemail?  As a real estate broker in Albany, Oregon I have decided to leave "real time voicemail" messages on my office/cell.  I let clients know my business hours and when I am doing call backs (twice a day).  For me, I am then able to focus on providing service to my clients without distraction and callers know I will be getting back to them at a certain time.  Of course, I do listen to my voicemail messages throughout the day and return calls at other times if they need immediate attention.  As a client, is this a positive system or a turn-off?  You are welcome to call and listen to my voicemail if you like.... 541-760-2283.  Feedback is welcome!

Located at the confluence of the Calapooia (Cal-ah- pooh-ya) River and the Willamette River, Albany is the 12th largest city in Oregon, nestled in the Willamette Valley. Albany is the county seat of Linn County, with an estimated population of +- 42, 280.Up until the 19th century, the area was inhabited by Kalapuya, a Native American people who lived in the middle Willamette Valley. The Kalapya called the area Takenah, from a word describing the "deep pool where the Calapooia River meets the Willamette River" or "hole in the ground".The first European settler inside the current city limits of Albany arrived in 1846. Albany was founded by the brothers Walter and Thomas Monteith, a family of early prominence in the area, in 1848, when they bought the claim to the townsite from Hiram Smeed...

The annual Upstairs Downtown Tour will take place on May 4, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.                          Visitors will get a chance to see some of the unique urban living and working spaces in the in the upper stories of downtown buildings, some of which have not been open to the public for years.  In 2003, CARA (Central Albany Revitalization Area) decided to tackle the barriers associated with redeveloping the unused upper floors by offering financial assistance and building guidance. The use of upper floor space was halted in the 1960's according to local business owners, for reasons that are unknown.Albany Businesses and restaurants will be open during this event, and the trolley will be running.

I had the pleasure of attending a "Lunch and Learn" put on by LandAmerica / Lawyer's Title last week.  The subject was historic homes, a subject very important to an Albany, Oregon Real Estate Professional! The speaker was Ann Caitlin from the City of Albany, owner of historical property herself, and the go to person in the city for information on what you can do...and what is going on with historical homes. She addressed a number of myths in her presentation and, while there is no way to capture all the great information she put out in just a short blog...OK, I COULD address everything, but most of you would never read it all!Key things you have to understand if you are thinking about buying an Historic home:(1) Is it in the HISTORIC district?  There are 3 in Albany.(2) Was it built duri...
