Tips for Home Security 1) Invest in a Homes Security System that is monitored by a security company. Don't rely on your pet to alert neighbors. 2) Install cameras at front and rear of home. Robbers want to get in and out in a hurry and do not want to be caught in the act on camera. If they see the cameras, chances are they will move on to an easier target. 3) Install laminate windows. Robbers are looking for easy prey and do not want problems before they enter your home. A regular basement or patio door are easily broken for access especially if you do not have motion sensors on doors and windows.4) Make sure your locks and doors are sturdy and not easly picked or forced. We have all seen TV shows where a handy pin or a good push will yield quick entry. Dont' let that be your entry doo...

We are not, however, done with old man winter by any stretch of the imagination. There are some safety measures that homeowners often neglect when vacation preparations take the forefront in their minds. This could mean the difference between ending your wonderful vacation on a good note or on a gloomy one. Snow Angel Program In Chatham-Kent We haven't needed the Snow Angel Program as yet this winter but do not count your blessings too soon. Winter is not done with us yet. There are many senior citizens in our community who don't have the financial resources to hire someone to shovel their walks or a friend or relative who is able and willing to assist. This can be a very big problem for some senior citizens, shut-ins or disabled individuals who live alone and need help, especially after a major snow fall. It can be the major reason that relatives resist the idea of independence for their loved ones. The occupant of the home cannot shovel themselves and some are very afraid of falling if the snow is not cleared. Tom Curtin, co-ordinator for the program said that those benefiting from the pr...

Rememberance Day Nov 11 'Lest We Forget' Freedom is not Free! Many veterans have given their lives to protect the freedoms we enjoy. Wednesday Nov 11 at 11 A.M. many stop and have a moment of silence to commemorate the signing of the Amistice that put an end to World War 1. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the war ended after 4 terrible years of warfare between the Germans and the Allied Troops. Called Armistice Day, it was later renamed Rememberance Day after World War 11 to commemorate soldiers from both wars. Today, it is a day to remember all fallen soldiers. The Legion members sell Poppies each year as a way for the public to visibly show  respect  and honor for those heroic men and women who gave up so much and died so other could be free. The  Red Poppy is tradi...

Fall Colors Ablaze in Chatham-Kent Area  I have heard people talk about taking a driving vacation through the East Coast States and the beautiful colors of the trees in Vermont and Maine in the Fall. If you are like my wife and myself, it is on our Bucket List but as of yet we have not had the time or more truthfully, made the time, to enjoy the trip. Life is a choice, I always say!Anyway, whatever the case with you, if you have not been there, you are in luck. We were driving to London last week, and I was amazed at the beautiful trees and the impressive array of colors we encoutered right here in our own area. Kent Country in particular has many wooded areas that can give us a showcase of fall colors if we just stop to enjoy the views. Rondeau Provincial Park is an area that my wife u...

Buying Or Selling Real Estate? Fall is Prime for Both! According to Patricia Verge, President of the Ontario Real Estate Association, there are severalreasons that Fall is the second busiest season for buying or selling your home. As most of us know, the summer is prime but do not discount the fall or autumn season if you were not ready a couple of months ago. There is a segment of the population that wants to move in the summer for obvious reasons such as getting settled before the children go back to school. There is also the curb appeals that a home has when the yard is at it's best, the flowers and shrubs are blooming and simply packing can be easier in the warm weather. Fall however, has its appeal as well. Remember some of us are too busy in the summer. There are cottage owners, s...
