School Registration for York Region Public Schools for 2010/2011 School Year Have you recently moved to York Region?  Have you recently moved to a different location in York Region?  If you have recently moved, you may need to register your child or children for the upcoming school year which commences in September 2010. Contact your local school and/or the York Region District School Board at www.yrdsb.edu.on.ca for details on how to register in your area.  It is very important to register as soon as possible since space is limited in some schools.  Placements will be finalized when school reopens in September 2010.

Do you like Jazz Music? Celebrate at Unionville JAZZ ON MAIN for two weekends in August 2010! If you are a Jazz Music fan, drop by the Jazz on Main festival on Main Street Unionville over two weekends. Friday August 13, 2010 to Sunday August 15, 2010 Friday August 20, 2010 to Sunday August 22, 2010. Over 50,000 people are expected to attend the jazz packed weekends in Unionville, Ontario, a 215 year old heritage village. Markham Fall Program Registration 2010 The Town of Markham in Ontario, Canada has released the Fall 2010 edition of Markham Life magazine.  It is available on Markham's website and at many Markham facilities.  It is also mailed to residents of Markham. Registration for Fall 2010 programs including pre-school, children, pre-teen, teen and adult programs commences on August 17, 2010. Markham offers a wide variety of recreational programs at facilities throughout Markham.  Various acquatics programs including recreational swimming, swimming lessons and aquafit are also offered. Details of skating programs, arts and culture and much more are outlined.

12th Annual Cornell Picnic 2010 The 12th Annual Cornell Picnic is being held in the Cornell community of Markham, Ontario on Sunday, August 8, 2010 from 11 am to 3 pm. The Cornell Picnic is at Benjamin Marr Park which is behind Cornell Village Public School on Country Glen Road.  The parade starts at 10:30 am.  The parade starts at The Mews located at Cornell Park and Country Glen Road.  You can walk, ride or stroll along the parade route to the picnic with your favourite decorated tricylce, bicycle, wagon or stroller. A BBQ is available for $3 for Cornell Ratepayer members and $6 for non-members.  You will have the choice of a hot dog, hamburger or veggie burger.  You can also choose a beverage. The picnic is going to be a lot of fun.  Come out and enjoy, rain or shine!

New 365 Area Code in the 905 / 289 Region of the Greater Toronto Area The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommuncations Commission ("CRTC") which is the Canadian government body that regulates the telephone industry announced on April 13, 2010 that a new telephone area code has been assigned to the portions of southern Ontario currently served by the 905 and 289 area codes. These regions include Markham, Unionville, Stouffville, Thornhill, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa and other amany reas. The new area code 365 will cover the same areas served by the 905 and 289 area codes. Thus, the area will be served by THREE area codes 905, 289 and 365 beginning early in 2013.

Police: Amber Alert for 2 Ontario boys is over The search for two young boys abducted from a Kingston Children's Aid office ended Monday afternoon in the Town of Markham, northeast of Toronto. A sharp-eyed citizen recognized the abductor's vehicle from an online news report and phoned police, ending an Amber Alert issued earlier in the day. The motorist spotted the wanted car just after 3 p.m., in the area of Markham Rd. and Steeles Ave. E., and followed it as he called 911, York Regional Police Sgt. Laurie Perks said.
