When is the next date that the Bank of Canada will announce its key interest rate? The Bank of Canada has scheduled April 12, 2011 as the next date that it will announce any changes to its key interest rate. The key interest rate is the target for the overnight interest rate. Chartered bank prime interest rates are based on the key interest rate. As of the date of this post, it is not known whether the Bank of Canada will increase the key interest rate, decrease the key interest rate or keep the key interest rate unchanged. Markham announces NO property tax rate increase for third consecutive year (2009, 2010, 2011) On March 1, 2011, the Town of Markham announced that it has approved its 2011 budget with no property tax rate increase.  This is the third consecutive year (2009, 2010 and 2011) that Markham has NOT had a property rate tax increase. Markham was the only municipality in the Greater Toronto Area to have a zero tax rate increase in 2009 and 2010. Transit Strike in York Region to start on Tuesday February 21, 2011 On Friday, February 18, 2011, York Region advised that one of the union locals will be invoking their right to strike against one of the contractor companies that operate some of the York Region Transit routes. 24 routes that operate primarily in the City of Vaughan are affected.  In addition, some routes in the Towns of Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Aurora and Markham and the Township of King are also affected. York Region advises that "All Viva Rapid Transit routes will continue to operate. YRT service in areas affected by the strike that is operated by other contractors, including routes within Vaughan, will also continue to run." York Region Transit / YRT bus route schedules to be changed on February 27, 2011 York Region Transit has announced that it will be making changes to the schedules of more than 40 bus routes on YRT and VIVA in York Region on February 27, 2011. Transit users should review their bus route schedules to determine whether their routes are affected.  In many cases, buses are scheduled to come less frequently.  In some cases, there are cancellations or reductions of service at certain times of the day.
