I work in one of the smaller real estate boards in Ontario, mostly smaller towns and rural areas. The pace tends to be a little slower than it would be in the Toronto Real Estate Board, and the situation of multiple offers on the same property does not happen with the same frequency as it would in larger, more urban boards where certain properties would be more in demand. In the last four years I have been involved in about 15 multiple offer situations, mostly representing a buyer. I have had only one listing that has attracted multiple offers. Every once in a while I will stumble across a news article that makes my day. This particular article from U.S.A. Today certainly made me chuckle so I thought I had to share it with everybody (who reads my blog). Apparently the fresco of Jesus in the church of the small Spanish town of Borja (near Zaragoza) had seen better days. This priceless work of art had started to fade pretty badly as old works of art tend to do. This didn't sit well with 80 year old Celia Giménez, a parishoner, who took it upon herself to touch it up. The long and short of it is that she brought her box of paints down to the church and went to work. The Proctor Park Conservation area is another one of those great places maintained by the good people at the Lower Trent Conservation Authority.   The park is within walking distance of the town of Brighton Ontario, and serves quite a few functions. Even though the park is so close to town, you get the feeling that you're in the middle of the wilderness when walking the trail in the park. The entire park is 91 acres and has a nice mix of manicured places for family picnics and recreation and offers a few things to do.   The wilderness trail starts at this little bridge. It's a 2.5 km trail, and I wouldn't suggest taking it on if you have little kids with you. It's a fabulous walk, but I was a sweaty mess by the time I finished it. Barcovan Beach is one of those neat little communities that people spend their summers at year after year. It's on the shores of Weller's Bay between Carrying Place and Brighton. A little further down on Barcovan Beach Road are where the lucky people who get to live here year round own their homes. It's in a very desirable area in the Quinte community.  The Barcovan Golf Club happens to be nearby, and though I'm not a golfer, i have been told it's one of the better clubs in the area (and we do have a lot of golf clubs in this area). Just another little animal video I thought I'd share.The other night the skies really opened up around here. We had little water spouts in the lake and trees were being blown over. I hadn't experiened wind like that for quite some time. There was quite a bit of lightning in the sky, and the clouds were swirling very fast and looked as if they may turn into a twister (which is relatively rare in these parts).I was leaving work fairly late and I noticed this poor little fellow being blown around like a little tumbleweed. He must have been blown out of a nest and he was rolling around on the grass. The Brighton Applefest has become one of Ontario's premier fall festivals over the years. 2010 will be the 36th year straight for this grand festival. This year will be the biggest and best ever, in part because I'll be there along with the Remax balloon, but also because there's so much to do. It's natural that Brighton should celebrate apples. The area around Brighton is well known for it's apple orchards, and the last weekend in September is set aside to clebrate the year's bountiful harvest. The small town of Brighton will be filled with all kinds of things to do for the entire weekend.  This year there will be an art show and some the the area's magnificent talent will have their works on display. Last Sunday I had to show one of my more remote listings. Another agent was showing it to his clients, but as a courtesy I said I would be there to show them the way. It is difficult to find, as it has deeded access through another property, and it doesn't have a street address, so GPS and Google Maps would be of no help. The agent and his clients were from Toronto, and  suspected they would have some difficulty with the location. I had a little bit of trouble understanding him on the phone as he had a heavy accent, but we set the time and made the appointment. By and large, search engine optimization is a rather tedious chore. Link hunting, fresh, relevant content on a constant basis, keeping up on the SEO news and tips, etc etc can be time consuming and dull. There is one task that I rather enjoy though, and that's figuring out exactly how people stumbled across my site. My website has something called "visistat", and I can go in there and check out some very comprehensive information. The part that I like the best is gleaning the "keyword" or "keyphrase" information. This tells me exactly which phrase was typed into whch search engine by the person who eventually clicked into my site. As you can see by the graph above, most of my visitors use Google.
