Way back in 1789 ,the year George Washington became President of the United States, approximately 50 United Empire Loyalists settled on the banks of the Bay of Quinte, at the mouth of the Moira river. The Loyalists were individuals who after the American Revolutionary War wished to remain loyal to King George III of England.Originally Belleville was known as Thurlow Village, Singleton's Creek and Meyers' Creek, all named after prominent local residents. One such resident, John Walden Meyers built and ran a number of businesses including a grist mill where people came from towns east and west to grind their wheat. He is credited with building the first brick house in Upper Canada in 1794, the bricks having come from his own brick kiln.Belleville did not get its' current name until 1816 w...

If you are thinking about selling your home, review the following tips to get it ready to list Detach your emotionsRemember, you are about to sell this house and the goal is to create a space which as many people as possible will be able to envision as their potential home. Belleville, the Friendly City, lies approximately 2 hours east of Toronto and is the largest community in the Quinte region. Belleville and the surrounding Quinte Region has been identified as one of the best areas in Canada in which to live. There are amazing beaches including 4 provincial parks, the beautiful Waterfront Trail, great entertainment including live theatre, fantastic fishing especially walleye, farmer's markets, culinary delights in our local restaurants. There is always something to do in Belleville and the rest of the Quinte region. One of the best things though is the fact that Belleville real estate is still relatively affordable, even for first time home buyers, when compared to other areas of southern Ontario. So here we are entering the Spring Market and the activity in Belleville real estate is definitely getting into high gear. The only problem is that there seems to be lots of buyers looking but there is a real shortage of homes available. Now this of course is not restricted to Belleville only but the whole Quinte real estate market. Last fall many people, both in real estate and out, were predicting that the Quinte real estate market was ready to pop. The number of sales for September was down 26.7% , October was down 5.9%, November was down 15.3%, and December was down 9.4% when compared to the respective months in the previous year. Now no one has a crystal ball to gaze into but looking at some of the other figures outside of real estate can sometimes give you an idea. For instance, a...
