Cafe Anatolia is on the far north side of Columbus, in the Worthington area (north-east of Worthington, north of 270.) The restaurant's address is  1097 Worthington Galena Road, Worthington Ohio 43085  The local Turkish restaurant, Cafe Anatolia has a website. An outdated website that does not do them justice but how important is a restaurant website.  Just don't believe the menu prices.... the dinner menu online is probably two generations old. The excellent Shepherd Salad is now $9.99 for the large.  It should be labeled a huge.  We split one and I had the leftover salad for breakfast. According to the sign in the window the lunch buffet is a dollar less expensive now than it was on the menu on the Cafe Anatolia menu on their website today, at $6.99. This is probably the 4th or 5th ti...

Is Worthington Ohio a ghost town as in deserted?  Not on your life!  Worthington is a thriving Central Ohio community with a history.  I got a big kick out of the Worthington Libraries series of Ghost Stories last fall when I found them.  I found them after Halloween 2007.  I'd posted a couple on my Discover Columbus site last winter... Not scary but a bit grisley ... this is a part of Worthington history I did not know. This is my favorite Worthington Ghost Tour: The Tale of Dr. Morrow   From the Worthington Libraries starring the webmaster at Worthington Libraries, Stefan Langer, as Dr. Thomas Morrow.Angry mobs of citizens, grave robbers, a missing body from an insane asylum?  I don't believe I had ever heard of the the story of Dr. Thomas Morrow and the Worthington Medical College's ...

The school year started in August for Worthington City Schools but schools were closed this week after a big storm hit Central Ohio.  A wind storm on Sunday September 14 2008, the remnants of hurricane Ike closed Worthington and most Central Ohio schools this week.   Today,  Thursday September 18 some Worthington Schools are opening with a two hour delay. School in Worthington that are still closed today because they have no power are Colonial Hills, Worthington Estates, Wilson Hill, Worthington Hills and Worthingway. Maybe you have to get out and walk on High Street in Worthington or you don't really get the full effect.  I wanted an iced coffee after the gathering on the Worthington Green, yesterday,  September 11, so I walked down to the Mean Bean from the Green to get coffee. I had driven by earlier and was craving an iced coffee while I was standing there listening.... I had only been in Mean Bean Cafeine Lounge a couple of times since it was sold by the last owners of Scottie MacBean... I don't know that I even knew it's name included "Cafeine Lounge." I still thought of it as Scottie MacBean.  Or Scottie MacBean... named for the owner's Scottie dogs... Wait... it is Scottie MacBean again...  Excuse the bad photo it says " SCOTTIE'S IS BACK!   UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP" and then some more....  It sa...

I went to the noon gathering on the Worthington Green today, September 11, 2008. There were local firemen and policemen there just as there have been other years.  There were members of Lima Company there again this year. There were short speeches from Harvey Minton the Mayor of Worthington, the Worthington fire chief, the Worthington police chief (I think) and an officer from the Perry Township Police Department.  A surviver of the attacks on the World Trade Center was there, a woman who was in the South Tower on September 11, 2001,  spoke briefly.  Philip College, the rector of St. John's Episcopal Church (just east of the Worthington Green's south east quadrant), spoke.   Chuck Gillespie who used to be a meteorologist on Channel 6 - WSYX sang, he also talked about being in the newsro...

The first section of Colonial Hills was platted in the 1920's.  The first section of Colonial Hills was built in the 1940s.  Colonial Hills  was not in the Village of Worthington when it was platted or built, it was in an unincorporated area.  Colonial Hills was built as a rental community for executives at a defense plant near the Columbus Airport.  The Worthington Historical Society's Neighborhoods says the neighborhood was built in 1927 to 1941 by "WWII Defense Homes Corp"  I think it was Defense Homes Corporation and they were built during WWII.  Defense Homes Corporation became part of FHA in the 1940s. The plat maps and a lot of what I know about the history of Colonial Hills is  from the entry about Colonial Hills on Wikipedia written by George Campbell a Worthington / Columbus h...

The new CVS is open in Old Worthington... well the new CVS is a couple of weeks old but I had a chance to stop there yesterday.  I am a big CVS shopper...but I go to one of two others, that I pass by just about every day.  I have driven by the new CVS on the corner of High St. and North St. a number of times  since it opened but never had a chance to  stop.  The new CVS is a big spacious bright modern store inside, a bit more open and bright than my ususal CVSs... or just more lights??? Outside on the street I love the look, of the business being on the street with the parking behind. I had followed all the articles in the This Week Worthington and the Worthington Suburban Newspaper about the Worthington Planning Commission and the Architectural Review Board's  oversight of the plans an...

Parts of the City of Worthington are subject to the Architectural Review Board... important parts of Worthington, Old Worthington of course, but also High Street.  Dublin Granville Rd?  Here's a map  (pdf) of areas subject to review...*  (pdf) of areas subject to review... I don't see a legend but the peachy areas are subject to the Architectural Review Board?  They are the Architectural Review District... looks like more areas than I realized. Looks like I answered my own question about Dublin Granville Rd. The architectural review board is the five member Worthington planning commission plus two people "one of whom must be a resident freeholder of the Architectural Review District" according to the rules. An agent in my office was on the Architectural Review Board when I went to lend ...

Worthington Ohio is a transplanted New England village, settled by people from Connecticut and Massachusetts.  Worthington is a Columbus suburb inside the 270 outer-belt. Worthington has a village green that is still used today, but cows do not graze there as they once did... (there are cows down the road but that's a different story... )  The Village of Worthington was founded in 1803.  The original village was from Morning to Evening Streets and North Street to South Street.                                                     The Old Rectory is on the corner of New England Ave. and Oxford Street NOW. It's been moved.  The Old Rectory is owned by the Worthington Historical Society now. There is a doll museum and a consignment store in the Old Rectory today.         The Worthington I...

Columbus Ohio 43085 ZIP code (Worthington Ohio.) A great map that shows the area of the 43085 ZIP codes is on ZIP Code MAP but you will have to feed in the 43085 ZIP code n the 'Key Zip' box at the top to see the map of 43085 and the surrounding ZIP codes. The website says: "The USPS considers zip codes to be delivery routes instead of areas. There may be differences between this depiction and actual zip code mailing address."ZIP code means Zone Improvement Plan. A ZIP code is not an area, it is a route... a mail route. ZIP Code 43085 If your home or work ZIP code is 43085... you live or work in: Worthington Ohio OR Columbus Ohio OR Sharon Township OR Village of Riverlea OR Perry Township? earlier today I thought some of Perry Township was in the 43085 ZIP code... now I am not so sure.....

The best ice cream in Worthington is Greater's.Greater's knows location, location, location applies to ice cream as well as real estate. In Central Ohio there's a Graeter's in the "downtown" of many of the suburbs.. well of course in Westerville Graeter's is "The Uptown." The Bethel Road Graeter's produces the ice cream for the Columbus franchised stores and this is the franchises office too.  There are Graeter's Stores on Bethel Rd, in Bexley, Dublin, Easton, Gahanna, Grove City*, Pickerington, Powell, Upper Arlington, Westerville as well as Worthington.   Back to Worthington... The Greater's location in Worthington is at  654 High Street in Old Worthington.  It's a walk to location from homes in Old Worthington, Kilbourne Village, Colonial Hills and other Worthigton neighborhoods.  It...

This past Saturday (August 18-07) I visited the farmers market in downtown Worthington Ohio. This quaint town was founded in the1800's and has New England roots which is reflected in the towns colonial architecture. The farmer's market is held on the sidewalk in front of all the towns' shops.  It was a beautiful day in the 70's with a nice breeze. I love to browse all the produce that the vendors have to offer. August is my favorite food month; there is nothing better to eat than fresh tomatoes just picked from the vine and the corn on the cob is the sweetest it will ever be. As I walked thru the market I was delighted to see many beautiful Ohio grown vegetables and fruits. There was also a good selection of meats, eggs, and jellies to purchase. Oh so beautiful were the cut flowers and ...

soon.  From an email from the Capital Area Humane Society: "Friday, June 22, 20067 marks the official "Take Your Dog to Work Day" this year, and it seems more and more people (and canines!) are trying to get involved in this relatively new, fun, and exciting venture. This is a wonderful concept for several reasons. Most obvious is the fact you get to spend the day with a favorite furry friend by your side. But it also helps the dog. Spending time in a new environment with relative strangers (or even not-too-often-seen friends) can help socialize your pet, getting him used to new faces, smells, and experiences. So you want to become involved, but no one in your office seems aware of this day? Don't hesitate to approach your boss with the idea of bringing your dog, but make sure it's done ...
