I asked on another real estate blog  "What is Columbus Best Suburb?" with a poll.  I asked about Bexley, Dublin, Gahanna, Grandview Heights, Hilliard, Lewis Center, Marble Cliff, Minerva Park, New Albany, Riverlea, Upper Arlington, Westerville, Worthington, Powell and others.   I also allowed votes for Other: Two of the five other votes are for two City of Columbus neighborhoods... a vote for Clintonville says: "not a suburb but the best neighborhood CLINTONVILLE"   There's some neighborhood pride! The other "Other answer" votes?  Someone voted for a SE Columbus suburb. Someone voted "Other" for Powell which is on the list on the poll but did not get any votes. Old Worthington is applying to be on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district.  Again. This Week Community News has the story,  Old Worthington applies to join list of national historic districts.  According to the newspaper article written by This Week News staff writer, Candy Brooks a 1999 effort to get Old Worthington on the list was denied because structures already on the list were included in the application.  Most people are surprised that Old Worthington is not a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Yet Worthington home to Rush Creek Village has a large neighborhood of mid-century modern homes.  The homes in Rush Creek Village were built in the Usonian style reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright.  The Rush Creek Village homes were designed by Theodore Van Fossen and built by Richard Wakefield. Rush Creek Village is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Rush Creek homes are distinctive with cinder block walls, flat roofs, no garages. I believe I have always said "Davis Estates" rather than "Estate." I remember an agent listing a house in Davis Estate (or is it Davis Estates?) as Colonial Hills West back in the 1990's.     View Larger Map     The Neighborhoods list on City of Worthington website  "About"  page calls the neighborhood "Davis Estate" and lists the year as 1926.  That must be the year the Davis Estate neighborhood was platted.  The houses in the neighborhood are almost all from the 1940's  I believe. A few were built in the 1950's.  The Worthington information was compiled for a book done by the Worthington Historical Society in 2006. Magic in Worthington? I am NOT a J.R.R. Tolkien fan... not that I have anything against them,  I just never read any of the books.  I saw and enjoyed on some levels the 'Lord of the Rings' movies but could not really follow them. The books by Tolkien had Elves, Hobbits, Trolls...  and more...   Here's a "Google Map" of  Middle-Earth done by Daniel Reeve a fan.  The maps as I understand them show where the Elves, Hobbits, Trolls etc. live. In the comments on Flickr on O'Brien's photo titled "Uptown Worthington, Ohio 1939"  someone asks where was the Kroger store?  Does anyone know?  O'Brien says there was an A&P in Worthington too.   To me and my magnifying glass it looks like the A&P was two doors down.  Or am I imagining it says "Atlantic & " above the semi truck in the photo? No there are no trailer parks in Worthington. As a real estate agent I have never sold a mobile home or trailer... in any community.  I don't believe I have sold a modular home but who really knows.  You are not going to find "trailers" in Worthington Ohio but a number of the historic homes and buildings in Worthigton have been moved over the years.   Some Old Worthington homes have moved  a time or two. Here is an account of the Griswold House moving shortly before the cities bicentennial celebration in 2003: Griswold House Renovation on the Worthington Bicentennial site. The house was moved in 2002 to it's present location at 95 E. Worthington Ohio was a planned community. The Ohio Historical Marker at 777 High Street in Worthington (the Griswold Center) says: " Worthington A Planned Community Based on a plan adopted by Scioto Company proprietors before their arrival in Ohio, Worthington was established following the New England model.  The town formed a grid patter around a village green.  Settlers were required  to own at least one town lot and a rural tract for farming.  Some setters were designated to operate the first tavern and sawmill.  The church and school were assigned double lots on the square and tracts to farm for their support.  An Episcopal Church, school, subscription library and Masonic lodge soon followed.  Within months Worthington was a complete New England town transplanted to Ohio."
