Worthington Proper means the City of Worthington... I think.  I know I noticed hearing and seeing "Worthington Proper" when I moved to Central Ohio in 1990. You don't hear people talking Dublin Proper or Westerville Proper yet much of their school districts are outside of the Dublin and Westerville Corporation Limits.  Or maybe you do...  I don't. I believe Worthington Proper means within the corporation limits of the City of Columbus.  Because there is a vast expanse of Columbus in the Worthington schools as well as homes in unincorporated areas including the Village of Riverlea there are many Worthington area homes which are not in Worthington Proper...   I heard someone use "Worthington Proper" recently. Worthington Proper = Corporation Limits, the City of Worthington Old Worthington...

This is a collage from 2009 of churches in Worthington for Easter Sunday... I am recycling.   Easter in Worthington Ohio Easter 2009 was about a week later last year, does the grass look as green today as in these photos?  Actually I guess I started talking the photos a week or two before Easter 2009... or the St. John's photo could even be mid March 2009. These churches are all in the city of Worthington.  If you are in Worthington can you ID each church?  Do you know the names of each church?  I don't.  I know exactly where each is but I don't necessarily know the name of the church or the denomination of each in the "tic tac toe" collage of churches.  Center right I would have to look at the sign to remember the name... bottom left I can not remember it's official name.  The bottom c...

Worthington Ohio Home Sales March 2010 March saw a big increase in home sales in Worthington.  18 houses sold in Worthington in March, which is more than double the 8 that sold in February.  The average sales price was $251,977 at an average of $126.27 per square foot.  Worthington home owners received approximately 94% of their asking list price.  The average days on market was a little over 3 months.  As the $8000 home buyers tax credit deadline approaches quickly, I expect much of the same for April.  A lot of people who have been debating if now is the best time for them to buy a new house have realized that their opportunity will never be better.  Rates are still low and there is a lot of inventory to choose from as far as houses on the market.  To take advantage of this great oppo...

It is time to take the sweaters off the trees Columbus!   Winter is finally over, the daffodils are blooming, it is time to take tree sweaters off.  Arborists recommend tree sweaters be removed immediately as it is getting warm quickly in Central Ohio. In an effort to make winter more comfortable some Columbus trees wore sweaters through the winter of  '2009 - 2010.' Pictured wearing a colorful sweater is a tree on Cherryfield Ave., Columbus Ohio 43235 in Worthington Hills.  Nature Blogger Tom Arbour was instrumental in raising awareness to Columbus residents last fall that we were in for a hard winter and that  a sweater could make a difference for a Central Ohio tree. In a Tree Sweater test program trees in the  Worthington area in northern Franklin County wore sweaters, this past win...

Linworth was a separate village at one point but is now part of  the City of Worthington.  I swear this sign was up in 1990 when we were moving to Columbus.  I remember the Realtor showing us homes telling us the thing about the name being the end of Dublin and the beginning of Worthington.  I don't know if she told us more about Elmwood or Elmwood Station which was the name of the spot on the road that was never incorporated according to Jennie McCormick's 'Worthington Neighborhood book.  The name was changed from Elmwood to Linworth in 1910.   The sign is across the road from The Village Bookstore, which was a Methodist Church, Bright's Chapel Methodist Church.  There used to be a name there above "Leasing" for the shopping area planned for that field. The original Elmwood plat runs f...

Olentangy Highbluffs is really Olentangy Highbluffs Village according to the sign out on N. High St... er ...Route 23 or I mean Columbus Sandusky Pike...  I guess the present Google map says Columbus - Sandusky Road. Olentangy Highbluffs Village - Map Whatever that big ole road out front of the neighborhoods is called, the full name of the subdivision is Olentangy Highbluffs Village.  I did not find any listings that used the "Village" part of the name, then again Olentangy Highbluffs is already a mouthful. Olentangy Highbluffs in northern Franklin County is in the City of Columbus and the Worthington City School District.  Beautiful  Highbanks Metro Park  surrounds the Olentangy Highbluffs neighborhood on two sides.   To live on the outside on Blue Jay or Bridletree... while there is a...

Seven Oaks neighborhood - March 28, 2010 brought to you by Maureen McCabe  Today Seven Oaks is a City of Columbus neighborhood in the Worthington City School District.   Seven Oaks is south of  Lazelle Road.  One of the streets in Seven Oaks is named Ozem Gardner Way, after a historic area resident.  I wonder if the  Seven Oaks neighborhood  was part of the Reverend Ozem Gardner's farm.   It is likely.   The Flint Cemetery was part of his farm. The Seven Oaks neighborhood was developed in the 1990s.  Seven Oaks is just a little east of the railroad tracks that go through Worthington and what was the Village of Flint back in the 1800s.  The history of the Seven Oaks neighborhood is the history  of the Flint Ohio area and the anti-slavery movement including the underground railroad, accor...

Worthington Estates East brought to you by Maureen McCabe of Real Living HER Worthington.  * Worthington Estates East is a separate neighborhood from Worthington Estates.  Often homes are listed as Worthington Estates in the Columbus Board of REALTORS MLS when they are really in Worthington Estates East subdivision.  What's the difference in the two neighborhoods?  One is East of High Street (a big street with lots of traffic in 2010) and one is West of High Street. They go to two different elementary schools. I have written about Worthington Estates before.  Worthington Estates get's all the attention...sometimes I think of Worthington Estates East as the "red headed step child." no offense to red heads, step children or Worthington Estates East.  For the Worthington Estates East neigh...

Colonial Hills, WORTHINGTON OHIO - THE FRIENDLY COMMUNITY  brought to you by Maureen McCabe Real Living HER Worthington. The sign on the north side of the Colonial Hills neighborhood says the Colonial Hills community is friendly so it must be so!  The community website also refers to the community as "THE FRIENDLY COMMNITY" According to Jennie McCormick's book, 'Worthington Neighborhoods' the residents formed the Colonial Hills Civic Association in 1952.  The neighborhood was annexed to the Village of Worthington in 1954 and the combined population of the village established in 1803 and the little 1940's "colonial look village"  down the road joined together.  Combined the two communities were big enough for Worthington to become a city if I am understanding the history correctly. Worthington's Olentangy Hills neighborhood brought to you by Maureen McCabe of Real Living HER Olentangy Hills is ithe City of Worthington, off W. Wilson Bridge Road.   The Olentany Hills neighborhood was platted in the late 1960's. This area of single family homes is a little newer than the Worthington Estates neighborhood, which is south of Olentangy Hills. Reading the history of the neighborhood in Jennie McCormick's 'Worthington Neighborhoods' book published by the Worthington Historical Society, this farmland in the 1960s was know as the Antrim Farm.  The Antrim family only owned the land since 1934.  The farmland had been owned by Lemuel Kilbourn (McCormick has the Kilbourne name without the e, I hear both are acceptable!) in 1804.  Worthington and parts adjacent saw their first s...
