Winter in Milan Ohio When most of us are holed up at home in front of the fireplace, there are others who are out enjoying the beauty of the season. I am grateful to Lori Lewis that she needed her special cup o’ joe from The Coffee Station in Milan Square.  She took a moment to share some of her observations. This quaint little village is the home of Thomas A. Go Take A Hike                                                                               Sunday, Sept. 11, is the official Kickoff date for the Go Take A Hike program.  There are 11 planned hikes in the Erie Metro Parks between Sunday and Dec. 11.  Hikers who complete 8 of 11 hikes will earn an Arkansas walking stick or a leather medallion to attach to their walking sticks that were earned in prior years.  Bring your dog along and they can earn a MetroPark bandana or a medallion.   This Sunday’s event will be from 2:59 to 5 p.m. in Milan.  You will have an opportunity to hike the Huron River Greenway on routes varying in length from an easy .8 to 2.2 miles in length.   Additionally, there will be free admission tours offered at the Edison Birthplace and the Milan Historical museums.... 09/09/2011

                                                      The Labor Day Weekend wouldn’t be complete without attending the annual Milan Melon Festival.  53 years and still going strong, the festival attracts roughly 100,000 visitors to the Village Square in the heart of Thomas Edison country.   What makes this festival different?  What’s all the hubbub about?  Why it’s the ICE CREAM, of course.  Each year, the festival organizers team up with the local Toft’s Dairy to create Cantaloupe ice cream and Watermelon sherbert.  Scoop some into a split melon and it’s next to heaven on earth.   Just the thought of that creamy, fruity flavor rolling around in my mouth……mmmmm   “The spirit of the festival is it’s all about the kids,” says Melon Festival President, Tammy Vitaz.  The festival features c... 09/02/2011

Milan Square in Milan, OH is just one of those places that make you feel good.  It has the right mix of shops and restaurants and services in a quaint setting.  It's a great place to spend the afternoon.
