 Canton Soul food restaurant in Stark County Ohio When I get a craving for real soul food, like fried chicken wings, Catfish, barbeque ribs, mac and cheese, and collard greens. I  head to Sophia's restaurant in the old Crystal Park neighborhood, at 1243 Harrisburg Rd NE in Canton OH.       When I was placing my order, I saw a bible on the counter for patrons to read while waiting for their order.  This closely relates to their Christian beliefs and heritage.  The restaurant is their ministry.  Sophia and her husband Claude own the six table restaurant.      The prices are reasonable, the portions are large and the food is delicious. The Stark County OH Pro football Festival  celebration has begun with Hot Air balloons,  the Jackson food Fest, and Fireworks! Canton OH rocks! The Balloon Classic Invitational kicked off the celebration on Friday evening, and then again early this morning about 7:30. Just beautiful!  That funny snuffling noise makes you run outside to see what's happening.     The Jackson food fest continues today from 4-11:30pm.  The fun is taking place at Kent State University Stark County campus in Jackson twp Oh.  6:30pm this evening, there are so many people sitting in lawn chairs along the road and at Kent State just waiting for the fireworks that won't even happen until 10 pm. I apologize for the quality of this photo, but I was taking it on the run! I chased the balloons for about 2 miles to capture this one! Canton, Ohio holds a Balloon Fest every year and I just happen to be riding down Fulton Road as they were ascending from the Kent State Stark Campus grounds. The wind was carrying them very fast and I almost wasn't able to get this! All Aboard the Cuyahoga Valley Train!      Have you ridden the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad train yet?  The CVSR offers affordable  regular excursions through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  Some excursions you can hop out in Penninsula, Akron or in the summer months, Canton, go exploring then get on the next train back. Bike Aboard!  Have you heard about the $2 fare for bicyclists?  You can ride as far as you and then ride the train back to your car.  Pretty cool! Celebrate Earth Day April 22, 2009 Save the Earth, yes, you!  Let's give back to the planet just as we take from it. I don't know, I'm getting sentimental, but I have started to recycle. Gotta start somewhere.  Here are some ideas we can all try, to celebrate Earth Day, by conserving energy, money and the earth.    LIGHTING Take advantage of natural daylight. Don't turn on lights  when you don't need to. Use compact fluorescent light bulbs or LED lighting. They may cost more, but they save as much as 80% on your electric bill and last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs. APPLIANCES Use water and energy saving features on your dishwasher. Only run full loads.   Kimono as art, the landscapes of Itchiku Kubota Several of us from my office at Cutler Real Estate went downtown to the Canton Museum of Art to see the internationally acclaimed  work of artist Itchiku Kubota, who used silk kimono as his canvas. The exhibition of 40 oversized kimono depicting the changing seasons was incredible.  After seeing the exhibit in Japan, Ambassador W.R. Timken and Jack Timken of the Timken company worked three years to bring the exhibit to Canton.  Can you imagine. Not Cleveland, or New York, but Canton Ohio.  The Kimono was painstakingly made by hand. Similar to tie dye and embroidery, but kicked up to notched unknown.
