Superbowl Sunday is quickly approaching and the Capital Region of NY is a-buzz!!  It's not because we have a team representing us in this football game -- after all, we've recently been named one of the worst places to be a football fan. :(   No disrespect to our awesome local college teams...!  So what's the excitement? A small, young and  local business - Death Wish Coffee - will be among the ads! This super strong and addictive coffee results from the combination of beans, the roasting process and the dedication of a small group of individuals who keep us wide eyed and ready to tackle what the day brings us. And they won the small business contest to be featured among the ads on Game Day! Congratulations to the Death Wish Coffee Team!  I'm sure the added exposure in Sunday's game wil...

I've spoken to a number of home sellers recently, who've told me they were waiting for Spring and warmer weather to list their house.  To them I have to say, "That is so last year!"   Or even 3-5 years ago.For those of us in the frozen tundra of Upstate New York, winter was always considered the slow time for real estate.  Not anymore.  The internet has completely transformed the housing market.  Buyers can sit with their tablets, snug at home in their pjs, watching Downton Abbey and scrolling through the latest listings in their area.   They can bring up Youtube on their giant screen tv and watch virtual tours and fall in love with your house before they even walk through your front door. The winter months have been some of our best selling for the past several years, and I expect it t...

I recently passed my NYS Real Estate Broker's exam, and I'm quite excited about it!  I will be an Associate Broker with Ron DiDonna Real Estate & Appraisal.  Same great firm.  New Office Space.  Putting together a whole new team.  Yes! But the same week I took the state exam, I also took the course to become a Military Relocation Professional, and actually, the dance I did when I got the notice that I'd been accepted as an MRP was even happier.  We've always loved Veterans and Active Duty Military here at Ron DiDonna Real Estate, and have served them faithfully for decades.  And we have a whole array of Veteran Owned Businesses that we utilize regularly when contracting out work, or getting things built, painted, designed, printed or moved, etc.   We regularly promote the Veterans Mirac...

I know there are ActiveRain members who have a million points, so my little 125,000 may seem like a pittance to them - but when I realized I had 124,975 points this morning after I logged in, I immediately looked for a post on which I could comment so I could get those 25 points and.... Whoot!  Whoot!  125,000 ActiveRain Points for Jeannie! I do realize having points doesn't necessarily mean you're a great Realtor - but it is a measurement to me of a slow and steady wins the race plodding through hours of blog posting over the few years I've been a Rainmaker.  And it is a measurement of a consistent desire to get local news and info out to the people who live in my locale.   There has definitely been a learning curve.  I admit to times when I posted so much "non-listing" information...

QUOTE OF THE WEEK… “Things are not always as they seem; the first appearance deceives many.” –Phaedrus, Roman poet and fabulist INFO THAT HITS US WHERE WE LIVE… The ancient Roman writer of fables certainly hit the nail on the head with regard to last week’s housing reports. Housing Starts dipped 14.4% in August to a 956,000 annual rate, while Building Permits dropped 5.6% to a 998,000 annual rate. With both numbers coming in under a million units a year, pundits were quick to declare that the home building recovery is over. But they were truly deceived. Even with the August decline, starts are up 8.0% over a year ago. The multi-family sector is a bit stronger, but single-family starts are still up 4.2% in the past year. Starts are volatile from month to month, so to see the trend, we ne...
