Once ventilation is found, the next step is to determine if it is proper ventilation.   Proper ventilation is essential in controlling moisture which could lead to harmful mold growth. It also helps in expelling odors through out the house. Ventilation is also helpful for some of the systems and components in the house as well, such as boilers and furnaces, allowing them to breathe thus functioning as intended with out shortening their life expectancy. When inspecting the bedroom, mold was growing on the interior of the exterior wall as you can see in the picture.     As I made my way to inspect the basement, there was some what of a musty order. Well the corner of the basement revealed a plumbing leak, as well as water seepage coming through the foundation wall from the window well outside. Since these tanks are very large and bulky, they can take up a lot of space and they are an eyesore. So having it underground means out of site, out of mind.  Your home inspector can usually determine the presence of a buried oil tank by finding the fill and vent pipes that extend above the ground.   If there is a buried oil tank on the property, here is some things to consider. The soil around it should be tested by a qualif...
