This is to wish all of you a Happy May Day (belated for Sunday) as we truly enter Spring at last!  ...if it was not so cold and rainy!  But these April Showers should help my May flowers planted Saturday and help us with the "force" -- Forrest's goofy joke about:   "May the Force be with you!"  Really??!   We had a BBQ with lovely Servpro friends from near and far this Saturday and the weather was warm and wonderful, at least until sunset! (Cape Cod's Beth & Billy Russell joined us and stayed the night).   The Smiths came down from their Servpro of S.E. Dutchess, upstate a bit and Lucille & Roy Eterre, my Houlihan Lawrence realtor and star!  Had so much fun!  Doing a Sun Dance for next weekend, so we can get our shorts and flip flops out in NY State, for good!  Enjoy...later this rainy ...

Call your oil company for boiler maintenance and get all cleaned, to prevent a puffback in Tuckahoe, NY 10707 Dirty Boiler that could use maintenance A puffback is a messy furnace malfunction that occurs when an oil burner backfires, sending soot throughout your home or business.  It can happen all at once, covering a whole home or business -- and every horizontal surface -- in grimy soot.  Or, a puffback also can be the result of a boiler that leaks soot particles more gradually.   If your home or business is affected by puffback, contact a certified restoration team, preferably a local company in your community, near Tuckahoe.  You don't want day workers or folks that no one knows on your property.  This is a tough clean up and can take days to remove all the soot particles after a pu...

Do we have to "Spring forward" or "Fall back" and why??!   Every year, I dread turning the clock forward and losing that hour of sleep.  Like you perhaps, I miss that hour ALL year.  But, then we "fall back" in November these days and that means winter is coming. So it's dread all around.       There are some questions about whether "daylight saving or savings time" actually saves energy as designed.  Is it really helpful to those of us, tired of driving to work in the dark and leaving for home after dark.  Also, is it bad for our health to game our clocks and time, as reported in Urban Legends and reports.   Here are some facts and information about Daylight Savings Time 2014 -- that, if you were in Bermuda or a coma this weekend -- began at 2 a.m. on Sunday.  Most of us "spring forwar...

It's not too late to winterize your home or business to protect lives and property in this arctic weather ~ Tuckahoe, NY 10707   Let’s face it, the weather is just arctic for most of the country, in many areas that are not used to temperatures that are more common in outer Siberia.  If we wanted to live in the polar north, we’d move there, right?   As cold as we are lately -- running from our cars or trains and planes to our businesses and homes -- your water pipes may also be feeling the chill.  Our company had serial phone calls all weekend, with water damage calls coming in at 2:30 and 3 a.m. on Sunday/Monday.         These frozen pipe victims had water damage in their homes or businesses this weekend because of record temps.  Most had never had a water pipe break in their property i...

Happy New Year to all, with a Winter Storm chaser -- Hercules takes aim at New York, Westchester and Boston, as southeast rain storms meet a snow storm moving north! (Tuckahoe 10707)   Winter Storm Hercules moves east over the great lakes and picks up snow, we'll see about two inches in the New York area.  THEN, a subtropical swath of  moisture from the Gulf will move north and meet over us, as Hercules sweeps over the MidAtlantic and New England...to the tune of 5 - 12 inches of snow.   What a way to begin the new year.  We'll certainly feel like January has arrived, along with the confetti and champagne from New Year celebrations.  Significant snowfall is expected in Long Island and Northern Westchester County due to Hercules move over us and northeast, combined with a low-pressure sy...

Not all floods are created equal in Westchester County, NY, especially with snow melt this spring and Sandy as the "new normal."   Just look out your window in Tuckahoe or Eastchester, NY 10707 and you'll notice more snow again in Westchester.  It's been storm after storm and, hey, doesn't Spring arrive this week?  At last, or maybe not.  The issue this week is that 5 inches of snow that fell in our county last night is equal to 1/2 inch of water when it melts.   When this happens, the question is where does the water go? This is not good in areas of Westchester that are low, near the Bronx River or Hutchinson River and are prone to flooding.             Luckily, the strong winds with this week's named "Winter Storm Ukko" did not take down power lines.  So, our sump pumps stayed on and ...
