    The Rockville Centre Recreation Center on Oceanside Road in Rockville Centre NY has announced that the Roll Around gymnastics set up will be available to parents and children ages 1 to 4 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday, April 6th and 7th and Monday through Sunday, April 9th to the 15th. The fee for the use of the center is $12 per family per session or use your Roll Around Fun Card. Registrations are now being accepted for the RVC Recreation Center's nursery school programs for the 2012-2013 school year. Pre K classes for those entering kindergarten in September 2013 are offered five days a week from 9 to 11:30 a.m. or three days a week from 12:15 to 2:45 p.m. Pre-Pre K for those entering kindergarten in September 2014 are offered four days a week (Monday through Thursday) from 9 to 11:30 a.m. or two days a week (Tuesday and Thursday) from 12:15 to 2:45 p.m. To schedule an appointment to visit the school call the Recreation Office at 678-9339. 03/26/2012

  Rockville Centre NY's annual Breakfast with Santa's Helpers on Sunday December 11th is one of the Anderson Recreation Center's most popular events. All faiths are invited to join the elves who serve pancakes, cereal, juice, milk, rolls and bages.  After eating Vixen's Fixin's kids may visit Santa or have a picture taken with Rudolph and Frosty.   The Annual Rockville Centre NY Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be on Thursday, December 8th, 2011 starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Green on the corner of Maple and Lee Avenues.     Rockville Centre NY is hosting it's 21st Annual Halloween Costume Parade and Party on Sunday, October 30th, 2011. Youngsters pre-K and up are invited to join the parade which starts from the Village Green on Maple Avenue at 2 pm and proceed down Maple to the Rec Center on Oceanside Road.  Their will be games and prizes for marchers at the Rec Center.   Everyone must register for the parade and or party at the Rec Center for $8 per family.  In case of rain the parade is canceled but the party will begin at 3pm.   10/08/2011

  Rockville Centre Public Library and the Sandel Senior Center's Service Corps is teaming up to launch a new Homework Helpers program designed to provide mentoring and assistance in reading and math to school children in grades 1-6 and for ESL high school children. Senior volunteers will be on hand in the Library's Children's Room, Mondays through Wednesdays from 3:30 - 5 p.m. beginning on Oct 3rd. The goal of the program, staffed with many retired teachers, is to provide both academic support local students and an inter generational experience to bolster community awareness and pride.   Rockville Centre's 9/11 Candlelight Vigil is on October 23rd at 7 p.m..  Those attending will have an opportunity to see three steel beams, believed to have supported the 48th floor of the South Tower. All residents and members of village organizations are invited to attend the vigil as a show of support and solidarity for the local families who lost loved ones.  Participants are asked to bring candles. The three steel beams will become part of a renovated Fireman's Memorial Park on North Forest Avenue which is currently under design by members of the Fire Department and other village residents.  Plans for the park include a walkway that will lead to the steel beams.  Construction on the renovation is expected to begin soon. 09/29/2011

The Mayor's Youth Task Force in Rockville Centre NY is a volunteer community service program open to Rockville Centre NY residents in the 7th through the 12th grades.   Volunteers will commit to giving 36 hours a year to various activitiies that maintain, beautify and improve the Village, such as cleaning up in the downtown business district and on the playing fields weekend mornings, planting and weeding designated areas, coordinating food drives and providing after school tutoring and mentoring among others.   Each volunteer will receive a certificate from Mayor Murray upon completion of the required 36 hours of service.   You can access the Rockville Centre Village website at www.rvcny.us and fill out an on line application. 09/22/2011
