It is not easy being a photo-journalist when you are emotionally involved... I am working on a project with my gal pal Jessica Klein and plan on sharing my by-line with her. I mentioned in Facebook that I was covering a 4-alarm fire that still has my neighbors and I in shock because we frequented the businesses that were destroyed in Rego Park. Jess and I are doing a YouTube regarding the aftermath of the blaze and the music, photo-montage and video clips are edited, arranged but waiting for the final audio overlays for publication. This story is still unfolding and the Fire Marshalls are actively investigating the incident. I am still conducting eye witness interviews to get my facts straight. It is not easy being a photo-journalist... especially when you are emotionally involved. Inv...

Staying Ahead Of The House Hunting Competition My knowledge of the local market is an essential factor in the house search. I'll let you know when the market in a particular neighborhood is "hot" and requires immediate action or when the market is "cool" and allows for thoughtful consideration. As we tour houses, I'll let you know when the asking price has negotiating room and when the house is "priced to sell". My unique market knowledge will keep you a step ahead of the "house hunting competition".In a "seller's market". It is not unusual to see multiple offers on a property, full-price offers and even above-price offers. On the flip side, during a "buyer's market" there are more houses for sale than buyers. This gives us more negotiating room as houses are taking longer to sell.   To...

A new superhero on the planet?  Living in L. A.? There are heroes... there are superheroes... and then there's Hancock (Will Smith) - this line was directly from the movie poster. He saves people's lives and has a strong dislike for the wicked. So why is Hancock hated so much? Maybe it's because he a klutz!! OR Maybe because he's an @$$%^(#!!! The guy's just out of control. He leaps over skyscrapers in a single bound at supersonic speed but hasn't found a way to slow it down for the landing. The one-superhero wrecking crew hits like a missile causing some serious damage. He's also a boozer which may be partly to blame for his lack of control. The public has finally had enough - as indebted as they are to have their local superman, the citizens of Los Angeles are wondering what they ever...

Tooth and Nail isn't what I'd call a horror flick. There's some shocking violence and a few events that try something like suspense, but it isn't scary!! The world is thrown into a violent disaster as the last oil well is bled dry. Without gas everything goes to hell, and the majority of humanity is dead (what happened to the usual ‘super flu' or nuclear bomb?). Petroleum supplies vanish, and soon after so do electricity and any form of civilization. People are trying to survive as best they can. This horrible future comes courtesy of the world running out of gas. A small group of survivors holds up in a deserted hospital where they make plans to start civilization over, but things go all crazy when watch duty brings back an outsider who is hunted by a mob of cannibal survivalists. It'...

Batman Begins explains how Bruce Wayne creates the persona of The Batman. The flick begins with Wayne in a Chinese jail, fighting the other inmates and beating them unconscious. The film is dedicated to deal with the actual mechanics of being Batman. As well as catching a glimpse of the military labs from where all his crime-fighting gear comes, as well as seeing his suit and his automobile and his arsenal as military hardware, we're even told how the invoicing is done, and why he's always got additional bits of Batsuit when he needs them. The biggest clarification of all, though, and the one that really grounds the film in 'reality', is just why a guy dressed up as a airborne rodent might not be such a harebrained idea. It's good, though, that the Jedi-like stuff where Bruce becomes s...

This was completely not the movie I was expecting. Sure, the violent Russian mob side of things was expected but the characters and the course of the story were totally out of the blue for me. Too many hints about how everything and everyone come together in this snugly-constructed film would be unfair; suffice it to say that it has plenty of twists and surprises along the way to a satisfying conclusion that isn't pushed too far. With mob movies I feel like there are three ways you can go; either you ‘Goodfellas' it and have one of your own turn on the organization or you can ‘Donnie Brasco' it and have a cop infiltrate the organization to take it down, or you can go the ‘Godfather' way and have it all be about the fighting within the group itself. I won't give things away by saying wh...

You only get one chance to make a first impression. When buyers are looking at your home, they will usually know almost instantly whether they like it or not.  Make sure that by the time they get to looking at the back yard, you keep that great first impression going.  Especially during summer months, when buyers will be thinking about barbeques and children playing, the back yard can make an important impression. If you have a pool or hot tub make sure you keep it looking clean and neat.  If your lawn is looking a little bit weak, some fertilizer and watering will bring back the deep green color.  Be sure you mow and edge your lawn frequently until your home is sold.  Cut back overgrown shrubs to show more of the exterior of your home.  It will look more tidy and also makes the yard lo...

The sunny, mild weather with a few rainstorms mixed in bring hordes of wood-devouring termites out into the open to swarm - mate - and, eventually, inhabit your home.  Pest control industry estimates claim that the damage termites cause now tops $5 billion each year! From now through May, termites will be at their worst as termite swarm season descends on the United States. Recognizing termites is tricky, since they are often difficult to distinguish from flying ants. Termites have relatively straight, beadlike antennae, while ants have elbowed antennae. Termites have two pair of wings (front and back) that are of almost equal length. Ants also have two pair of wings but the fore wings are much larger than the hind wings. The abdomen of the termite is broadly joined to the thorax while ...
