Misty Fall morning Now that Fall is in full swing and the leaves are falling it is not uncommon to wake up to a Misty Fall morning.  This is by no means favorable conditions for a morning commute especially when the fog is like pea soup. I have to admit though, that there is something enchanting about a Misty Fall morning, maybe it is seeing things disappearing and reappearing in the fog.  Or it could be I just like a change from the usual. Red Hook New York home sales and homes for sale During September Red Hook New York home sales was 4 less than what it was same time last year.  Back then the average list and average sold were also higher.  Both homes sold this September were under $300,000. In the Village this September and last September both had 1 sale, however this year the home sold was more expensive. The homes listed during the month ranged in price from $246,000 to $749,000 and were built between 1957 and 2004. During the month the new listings to the market ranged in price from $255,000 -$1,095,000. There were also 2 accepted offers. My day just did not start out well.  I decided to devote a half an hour to pulling weeds because weeds drive me crazy and with the unpredictable weather condition this year they just seem to flourish no matter what. I was going about the task when I noticed I was covered in a sticky thorns  I could not brush off; my shirt, pants and gloves.  I even managed to get some in my hair which is another story by itself. I took the gloves off and threw them in the garbage.  I had to say goodbye to my comfy pants, and I was about to pull the shirt off when it dawned on me if I did that I might have to shave my head, so I had to cut myself  out of the shirt. This year I did not see as many butterflies.  I wonder if this was the case in other places?  So it was a pleasant surprise to get close to this Monarch Butterfly as it perched on the flower of a butterfly bush. With out spread wings it seemed so at home.         08/24/2013

Open House unexpected guest -Deer Okay an Open House is an event where unexpected visitors do show up. Yesterday my Open House was going well, agents came by to checkout the new listing, and  they all commented on the lovely backyard.   Just before  the Open House  ended I looked outside  and saw I had some unusual visitors, a family of  deer.  Unfortunately I did not have any refreshment  for them, however they were quite  contend hanging out in the lovely backyard. Red Hook real estate update and homes for sale The Red Hook real estate update and homes for sale report for July revealed 12 new homes for sale, ranging in price from $137,900 – $1,495,000, two of the new listings were over a million dollars and were located on the same street. How did Red Hook real estate this July compare to last year? As you can see from the chart below there were 3 more sales this July than in 2012.  However last year 2  million dollar homes sold, therefore the  average sale  and list prices were much higher.  At the same time it was good to see the days on market almost cut in half this July. Deer Run a newer Red Hook  NY Neighborhood Deer Run is truly a newer neighborhood in Red Hook NY.  The oldest house was built in the late 1990's.  Just down the road on Old Post Road North there are homes from the 1800's .  There are so many stories of places George Washington slept, but I am positive he did not set foot in the Deer Run neighborhood. Cicada in Red Hook NY fern garden I found this Cicada in my fern garden today.  It is the first time that I have gotten up close to a live Cicada this year. The first time I heard that piercing sound I was showing a house and I did not make the connect at first.  I thought the neighborhood was noisy but it finally hit me, it was our friends the Cicadas who visit every seventeen years. Another encounter was when I was going to do a listing presentation and the homeowner was afraid to open the door because she was afraid they would get inside;  the sound then was deafening. They cause a mess I have been noticing that the windshield is a bit messy these days, why? Driving down the road these critters smash into the windshield leaving a mess. Today I was treated to a bit of bright color.  Around here lately it has been rather hot or raining, so this morning before the heat and rain took over I found this bright redish orange color in my garden. Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is a popular Hudson Valley destination  located  in Red Hook  New York.  During the summer many come from near and far to experience a piece of history.  I have personally spoken to people on the West Coast who  expressed a  desire to visit this site one day. You will appreciate the exhibition of antique planes and cars at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome; as well as the  variety of  air shows offered.  Then you will have an opportunity to take a ride on one of the old bi-plane;  there are a variety of rides available  including a ride over the  lovely Hudson River which would cost about $75.   I personally have never gone up,  but I have watched others take the ride which they found exhilarating.
