Red Hook NY real  estate market In the month of January in Red Hook NY 3 homes sold, and what a spread in the price range $190,000 - $1,200,000.  The $1,200,00 was a lovely stone house and farm from 1733.  One house went under contract in the month of January, however there were 14 new listings. Price Breakdown of the new listings 1    $100,000 3    $200,000  1 of the 3 was  a short sale. 2    $300,000 6    $400,000 1    $500,000 1    $600,000   Based on market data for the county and the individual towns, most of the homes sold in January fell in the range below $300,000.  What does that mean for you?  If your Red Hook home is priced above this range your days on market will probably be longer, then again there is always an exception to the rule. If you are thinking of selling I strong...

It  is  snowing lightly in Red Hook, a rare occurrence this winter.  Today happen to be a regular scheduled winter market event at the Elmendorph. There is always a variety of produce and and products to see.   At one of the recent event I picked up the black turnip which I really enjoyed, can't say the same for the rest of the family they just did not like the way it looked. Another time I picked up some goat's milk soap yes there were unscented bars available. So don't  let the light snow stop you from visiting the market today.   Time 10-2 Where Elemendorph Inn

Red Hook NY market report   Before getting into the market trends in Red Hook for November, I just wanted to let you know Red Hook is having a Bicentennial celebration in 2012.  The kickoff was in September, as you will see in the video below.  During Hardscrabble day much oral history was video taped and will be shared on the Bicentennial website Red Hook 200, check back regularly for new videos and updates on events. So, how was the Red Hook real estate market in November?  I am happy to inform you that it was a good month.  Between the town and village there were 11 sales.  8 of the 11 were under $300,000 which is very much in line with the rest of the county.  The most expensive home was listed at over $2,000,000 and sold for $1,800,000, a home with spectacular views of the Hudson R...

Today was the Red Hook Winter Market but I knew I could not linger long because I had a client coming to town and we had a few houses to look at in Red Hook. I stopped at the market just as it opened and I had only fifteen minutes to spare. I found the items I wanted and then decided I would buy an item I had never purchased before. I took up a crusty, bluish colored vegetable and I thought I was told it was a blue radish. Since I was in such a rush, I'm not certain. So, tonight I thought I would look up Blue radish recipes but all I could find was recipes with radishes but the blue in the recipe was blue cheese. By the way, my showing appointment went well and my client and I now have a clearer picture about the type of property that will work for him. Before I go can anyon...

I was not thrilled about the Northeast early snowstorm, and with good reason.  The heavy snow caused lots of damages, broken branches, down power lines and over a million without electricity.   Last night I was without power but was happy it came back this afternoon, and I hope this will be the same for others. There is something though about a snowstorm, it is really beautiful yet I find myself having a love hate relationship with it.

One reason I love the Hudson Valley is because of the variety of trees.  Come fall you can truly enjoy the vibrant colors.  It is not all fun and games, once these leaves fall then you have to get busy raking.  I personally spend hours raking and throwing the leaves in a compost heap to use on my garden come springtime.   I make the best of this chore by examining the leaves; and this morning while raking,  I came across these red leaves. There is much to admire in nature even in fallen leaves, and these red leaves sure makes my point.                                                    Wordless Wednesday Red Leaves

The Red Hook Town Hall is an important place in the town of Red Hook, you might not give it much thought but many of the activities there affects daily life.  Your family is growing so you want to make an addition your home.  You will need to make a visit to the town Hall.  Based on what you want to do you will need to speak with the zoning officer.   Your plans will have to be presented to the planning board before you are issued a building permit.  Depending on where you live your request might have to be reviewed by a Hamlet committee, agriculture committee  and the list goes on. During August 2011 in Red Hook NY 6 homes sold which is 2 more than in August 2010.   Here is the price range of the homes sold:  $247,000-$875,000 with the largest home coming in at over 5000 square feet. Looking back over last August's report, I asked the question: What does the end of summer mean to you?  I found that the tips for sellers are still relevant today. With 4 homes having offers in August, plus other offers from previous months outstanding, the market is on track to have as many or more sales in September as in August The average price for the active listing is high because there was one home listed for $2,250,000 otherwise it would be in the 300's The average price for those in contract would be in the high 200's if not for the beautiful historic home from 1733 with a li...

Is there Soccer in Red Hook NY? Where I grew up soccer was the number one sport although it was referred to as football.  It caught on in the US much later than in other parts of  the world. So is there Soccer in Red Hook NY?  I can answer yes because when I go down Rockefeller Lane I often see children of all ages playing and the parents cheering them on. When  there is soccer around you will always find a soccer club and there is a Red Hook Soccer Club.  The club plans the intramural games and makes arrangements for travel and competition. There is also a soccer team at the Red Hook High School. The team is  called the Raiders and they compete against other High School teams. Soccer is also played at Bard College and their team is called the Raptors. So as you can see there is much so...

I decided on apples for my Speechless Sunday.  Why? Because an apple is a fruit that almost everyone is familiar with, either in the form of baby food, pies, or salads, you name it. Apples come in many varieties. It is estimated that world wide there are over 7,500 varieties. Here are more apple facts. Did you know that New York State is the second largest producer of apples?  That will come as a surprise to many who might think of New York as the land of Skyscrapers.  Actually, the state has a vast amount of farmland. So, apples happen to be an important part of the farming economy in New York.  This year's harvest was expected to be a good one but I have no idea how it was impacted by hurricane Irene. Want to know how many acres it takes to make New York the second largest apple growe...
