St Patrick’s Day Parades Near Newburgh NY Parades in the Hudson Valley are abundant, and they range up and down the Hudson River from Albany to New York City.  Don’t miss out on your chance to be Irish! This year we are fortunate enough to have St Patrick’s Day fall on a Saturday. Many more people will actually attend the parades and other events in the area. They are so much fun and something special to remember. Of course I am told that if you attend a parade you are Irish for the day! Who can afford not to be lucky on St. Paddy’s Day?!? Of course the local parades are wonderful, but not to be missed is the ultimate of St Patrick's Day Parades in New York City. A quick train ride to NYC and you will be at the oldest, biggest and best parade in the world. A once in a lifetime event! Do...

Don’t Forget to Set Your Clocks Ahead Spring forward this Sunday, March 11th 2012    Again we get to set our clocks forward to increase the amount of daylight hours we have. I am definitely in favor of more sunshine. Blue skies are really where it's at, but just because we set our clocks ahead is no guarantee of that. Lots of history and controversy in the when and why of this tradition, but for me, I get more daylight! An important reminder is to check your Smoke Detectors for Batteries too. Set your clocks forward from 2AM standard time to 3AM daylight

A Google Doodle told me it is...   ‘International Women’s Day" ~ so what does that mean?   Did you notice today?  A Google Doodle designed to Celebrate International Women’s Day. The History began so many years ago in the garment district of New York City, back in the early 1900's. It certainly continued on from there. Today it has moved on to so many different events that are meant to honor the role of women in society. So much history over the years not only here in the US, but internationally in how women are treated in different countries. A Google Doodle is nice, but honoring women and humanity is better. The goal of the celebration and recognition becomes a tribute not only to women but to men as well, and therefore, mankind. So to me, it is not really just honoring women, but hon...

Spring Is Here in Newburgh NY THE  FIRST ROBIN OF THE SEASON! Newburgh NY is having some early springtime weather. Abundant sunshine and blue skies and 60 degree weather today. Driving around town today I had to stop and snap this photo. Here sits the very first robin of the season for me.. tne marking of spring. Just hanging out with his buddies and looking for a mate … soon to have a nest and some babies! I guess he will be building a new home.

Mary Jane’s Dairy Bar in Newburgh NY is Officially Open 2012 Spring is here again. Once more the signs of spring are all around us saying that the winter is over. Although not so harsh this year in Newburgh, I will certainly be happy when the flowers start to bloom and the grass is green again. As the seasons change here so does the NEED for ICE CREAM. Today on my way back from showing clients houses in the area, I just had to stop and join in the spring joy as the owners of Mary Jane's is open for business 2012. Spring is here! Soft serve ice cream is back! Mary Jane's closes each fall and the owners usually pack up to go to Florida for the winter.(at least that is the old story I have been hearing for years). March comes in like a lion and Mary Jane's is busy from the start of the sea...

Go ahead, ask the question... Are You Serious About Buying A New Home? This question comes up with Realtors frequently when working with buyers of new homes. A click of the mouse gets you through the front door of many homes without ever leaving yours. COULD YOU SELL THIS HOME?    Realtors face challenges every day. Not every home is an easy sell. This home has a beautiful waterfront location, but is the narrowest house in Venice, Italy. It would be a  true challenge for even the best realtor out there. What are your thoughts? Could you sell this home? Who might be your clients?   Just thinking and sharing in the rain on a not so Silent Sunday...

Washington's Headquarters in Newburgh NYCelebrate Presidents Day at George's Home! Newburgh NY has an abundance of early American history that sets it apart from most  of the country. Newburgh is known as the Birth Place of the Republic where George Washington and his army spent a great deal of time during the years of the Revolutionary War. Washington’s Headquarters  is located in the center of Newburgh NY. Strategically located, the headquarters is perched on the west shore of the Hudson River with a clear view towards West Point. During the Revolutionary War this was most important for defense. It was at this location that George lived and made many strategic decisions for the future of our country. It was when he resided here in this stone house, that he rejected any idea of becomin...

Wordless Wednesday~~ A Wonderful Place to Call Home. Just how do you define a home? What is your style? My friend here chooses function over everything! He sees life from the practical point of view. Style and function work differently for everyone. All across the country there are many definitions on what a home should look like. Different architecture and style grace the countryside. A home can be small or large, flashy or unassuming. The choice reflects our budget first and then our style The choices near my home are many. Share with me your wants and needs. While a new construction home suits many, not everybody wants or needs to build something new. Still, everyone needs a place to live. Let me help you find that special place to call your home.

Who Doesn’t LOVE Chocolate?Commodore Chocolatier is a small local family run business in the heart of Newburgh NY. I must admit that I am a big fan of chocolate, a food group in its own right! An old soda shop that was reworked to sell just this delicious candy, is now a long time store front for the best chocolates in town. Located in the city of Newburgh, this neighborhood can sometimes be forgotten, but not the chocolate! A couple of years ago the building suffered a nasty fire. Everyone thought that they would never open again, but they rebuilt, and the shoppe is still on upper Broadway and continues to enjoy what couldn’t be a sweeter business!  When my daughter was in high school, the owners son would bring chocolate covered strawberries to share with this classmates. A great way ...

Groundhog Day 2012: Punxsutawney Phil sees shadow, 6 more weeks of winter? Let's hope not, unless of course it stays warm   It’s that time of year when I am usually totally completely and absolutely bored with a winter filled with snow, sleet, freezing rain with all the gray days. It is a year that has been filled with the most unusual weather.  Now we are already into February and February 1st found us with unusually high temperatures here in Orange County NY. Living in Newburgh for the last twenty some odd years I have been through some really nasty winters. This however has not been one of them. It makes me happy. Today is Groundhog Day.  You might call me odd, but it has been one of my favorite holidays since my children were small. Many years ago we started to celebrate this day m...

Newburgh New York River View Homes in "The Hudson Valley"New Homes in the Hudson Valley can be found all over the Hudson ValleySome Houses are More Fun to Show Than Others! There are days that I am more lucky with the homes that I am able to view and show to clients.Today was one of those days. When I arrived I was truly happy to be there. I was in the City of Newburgh in an area that boarders with the town.  Truly historical, the City of Newburgh has so many different amazing homes to see. Newburgh is divided into two distinct municipalities, the City and the Town. Much older in its architecture the City has charming homes and I enjoy the ones that have been preserved over the years. Touring these homes always feels like a journey through history. We entered through the front door to s...

THE HUDSON VALLEY ~ A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO WORK AND PLAY The Hudson Valley can undoubtedly compete as one of the most scenic places on earth. Capturing all the beauty it has to offer with my camera has become quite the hobby for me. Simply put, I am never at a loss for what to take photos of. All I need is time and clear skies, but even when it snows the photos can still be beautiful. I am not much of a cold weather person, but the splendor of the snow in the background can be astounding. The constantly changing weather flavors the shadows and tones around me and with the click of a button these images are caught forever. I am lucky to call Newburgh NY my home.

Showing Homes ( or land) in the Snow The sun is shining and time to show potential home buyers from the city just what Newburgh NY is like after a snow storm. It is really beautiful but very cold outside. We will see what they are made of! I always remind the city folk to wear boots. That can always be interesting. Looking at land after the snowfall is always interesting, but I am up to the challenge. Looking for a new construction home? Click here for more info and let me help guide you along the way.
