I started to laugh when I heard that at last night's appointment.  I didn't even think and blurted out, "Why?  Because I'm not a guy?"  And, she said, "Yes, but it's more than that.  You seem nice and friendly...and helpful."  She then told me that I came highly recommended from one of her neighbors.  She is moving from one house in New Rochelle to another, and looking to refinish her hardwood floors, as well as paint/remove wallpaper.  She thought it was really cool that I owned my own flooring business.   Crossing my fingers on this one. 03/21/2013

I met a nice couple last night in New Rochelle, and they wanted to replace the carpet in the living room, dining room, hallway and steps.  They were looking for something that would help hide the dirt better, but still be nice quality.   I was so excited for them when I peaked in their closet and found they have hardwood floors.  They had no idea.  The carpet had been in place for 20 years and they forgot to ask the carpet installer what was underneath.  This felt like we discovered gold.   First, the hardwood will look so much nicer, and it will be much easier to clean.  Second, it will improve their home's value when they eventually sell (maybe 10 yrs from now).  Third, it will save them a lot of money.  Most likely the sanding and refinishing will cost them about half the cost of the... 02/28/2013

On Saturday, I wrote about how one of my past customers sold her house and moved into another house where we had already refinished the floors.  In both cases, I worked directly with the real estate agents, so I had not met the customer.   Well on Sunday, I was meeting a customer who is buying a new home...and lo and behold when I arrived, one of those same real estate agents met me at the door.  I was pleasantly surprised and related the previous day's events to her and we had a good laugh.   2 seconds later, I look up and see the buyer's agent, and by coincidence I also know her.  I was even more surprised to see her since she typically works in Connecticut and not in lower Westchester.   Needless to say, this was impressive to my customer (who had found me online) and both of these a... 10/28/2012

Yesterday morning as I was driving to my first appointment, things seemed familiar.  First, I had a customer who's name I was sort of familiar with...but I couldn't place who it was.  And, I seem to remember all of my customers.   I asked my office manager about this, and she said yes, that is a past customer, but you never met them.  You worked directly with the real estate agent, and we refinished their floors, and they were happy. One of my customers from last week was very sweet.  She introduced me to her friend and explained how she first "met" me when I did a presentation to her real estate office...on Google +.  So, she did not meet me in person.  Months later, she forgot about me.  (I guess I need to work on being more memorable).   She needed some help with flooring, and it was definitely a tricky situation given how old the home is and how uneven it is and given how the floors were on 3 different levels!  So, she went to google to find some info on flooring.  And, guess who she found?   Apparently, I was everywhere...on every search that she did, and every question she had.  As soon as she saw my site and my picture, she remembered me.  And, guess who she called?   So, in a couple of weeks, we will be solv... 08/10/2012

This evening I had fun helping a customer design her floors.   My customer has some unique tastes and she wants to do a very modern and artistic room.  She wants high impact.  She knew exactly how she wanted to paint the walls and ceiling and what pictures would go on the walls, but was very confused about her floors.  She had been to several stores and had many samples, but just couldn't quite figure out what made sense, given her objective and her color scheme.   Then, somehow, she found my blog on TheFlooringGirl.com.  And, she read a lot of my posts on AR and on my own website...and even remembered a lot of my suggestions.  So, she called me and just started asking me questions about how I got started in the biz and what did I think she should do with her floors.   She was thinking ... 07/25/2012
