The Financial District was once an enclave of just businesses – day traders and financial whizzes came to work and left behind empty streets. But no more! That establishing shot from movies and television evolved into a true neighborhood. The Financial District has become an exciting, vibrant community in an amazing location!  It runs from the area south of City Hall Park in Lower Manhattan; the heart of the Financial District is often considered to be the corner of Wall Street and Broad Street, along Fulton Street and John Street. The Financial District – called FiDi – remains the City’s primary business district but the real estate offerings are some of the most diverse and exciting in the city. Soaring office buildings were converted to apartments, new construction rose on the waterf...

Corcoran, BHS, Compass, Stribling say they won't use portal's new listing system    Several of the city’s top brokerages are defying StreetEasy’s latest attempt to push manual listing entry on agents, which they believe is a bald-faced attempt to squeeze more money out of brokers. After the portal announced “Agent Spotlight,” its latest advertising program, the Corcoran Group decided that it would not switch to a new listing system developed by StreetEasy and Douglas Elliman, dubbed “Listing Tools,” sources told The Real Deal. Sources also said that Compass and Brown Harris Stevens — which cut their automatic feeds to StreetEasy more than a year ago — have both asked the portal to reinstate those direct pipelines to avoid Listing Tools’ manual entry. BHS has already received a firm “abs...

Being a pet owner can be a labor of love. It’s not always easy to find a building that will take you and your animal companions. Strict no pet policies in some new condos, a lack of nearby pet-friendly amenities, and hostile neighbors can make moving into a new home with Fido a tricky feat. For those who seek the best of both worlds, luxury real estate in Manhattan and the freedom to have pets, it is good to know that there is help out there. You only need to see all the dog dishes under the tables on Amsterdam Avenue to know that pets are loved dearly in Manhattan, you just need to know where. There is nothing worse than having your poor pet pace the shiny floors of your luxury apartment, or get into your furniture, while you are away at work or running errands. To address the needs of ...

Very few twenty-year-olds have the hard-earned financial capital to afford a million dollar piece of real estate in Manhattan. However, there are wealthy parents who purchase Manhattan apartments for their children as an investment. Every twenty-year-old has the desire to live in an area of town that they choose. So the ones who have access to capital have influence. Their thumb is on a pulse that is dictated by rising fads, not market prices. This is when investors need to start listening. Where are things happening? How can a parent tap into a trendy area, keep a child happy, and make a cool profit in the process? Let’s look at movement in the neighborhoods that entice the young and hip in New York, determine if today’s cool sets tomorrow’s high-end, and gauge if there’s overlooked in...

Simplex is asking $40M, duplex is asking north of $80M 520 Park Avenue The penthouse at 520 Park Avenue — once seeking $130 million — was among several trophy apartments seeking nine-figure sums when it hit the market in 2014. But that was then, this is now. In recent months, Zeckendorf Development quietly joined the ranks of developers opting to split once-massive penthouses into two or more smaller units. In 520 Park’s case, what was once planned as a 12,398-square-foot triplex is now being offered as a simplex seeking $40 million and duplex priced between $80 million and $100 million.  Arthur Zeckendorf The developers couldn’t be reached for comment, but sources familiar with the decision said they realized last year that the triplex was simply too big. “It was easier to sell a full...

You could consider this a part two to my previous blog post: Brooklyn New York Hidden Gem - Barbès. As shared, on December 30th, 2018, I took a tour of the boroughs in NYC and made specific stops in Manhattan and Brooklyn. This post focuses on my visit to MomaIt's been a year or so since I've returned to MoMa and this was a much needed treat! New exhibits that really caught my attention included Bruce Nauman: Disappearing Acts and Charles White: A Retrospective. The photo you see as the featured image is an installation from the Bruce Nauman's installation. And as for Charles White, I purposely didn't post any photos because you simply need to visit the exhibit for yourself. I will say, his work is mind blowing with his level artistic craftsmanship and messages sent. Do we have any Lee ...

You can travel a thousand miles to another big city, and feel more at home there than someone from a rural part of that country, coming to the city for the first time. When you get beyond the language, big cities are the same in many ways. There is a certain ebb and flow. For an investor to buy real estate in Manhattan, the transition from Hong Kong or Singapore for their families can actually be more fluid and familiar than for a family moving to the Big Apple from upstate New York. What’s selling in upstate New York? For less than a million dollars you can own a nine-bedroom 9,040 mansion with six full and four half baths. It’s on 43 acres of land overlooking Cayuga Lake. However, even for the well-heeled owners of such a property, a move to the city would feel cramped and confined.  ...

Yesterday, I presented a Feng Shui workshop for the interior design firm, Rees Roberts + Partners LLC in New York City. This was a lovely bunch and I'm so happy we had the opportunity to meet! Besides covering the heart of the presentation (Feng Shui and Interior Design), we also got into some pretty interesting topics; karma, intentions, space clearing techniques, techniques in coaching and mindful listening, and the reviewing of certain situations the designers are currently addressing through the lens of Feng Shui. What's also pretty cool about the workshop, is the team gifted themselves this event as an early Christmas present!
