It's nearly time for the 39th annual Greenwood Lake Bed Racing event!     Yes, that's right, bed racing.  The Bed Race will be held on Saturday, September 6th, starting at noon.     To participate, you have to take a bed, add wheels and any appropriate decorations, find some team members who will push the bed and one to ride on top (with a helmet), fill out the paperwork, sign the waiver, and you're all set!   Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, and all contestants are also eligible for the "Most Original Bed" and "Should Have Stayed in Bed" awards.   Click here for the official rules and application form, and if you go, enjoy!   September 10th update:  Ten race teams participated - click here for the link to the Times Herald Record's photos.

Twice within the past 24 hours I have read reports of dramatic rescues of ice fishermen who fell through the ice, most recently on Greenwood Lake. Thankfully there have been no fatalities, but the potential of death by drowning or hypothermia are all too real.
