Thanks to Debbie Gartner, our Flooring Girl, we have lovely refinished oak floors with Mahogany inlay in Fleetwood, NY 10552.   When we moved to our antique home and then moved my father and stepmom in years ago, it was to rooms with that had pink shag carpet.  You remember, the kind that some of our grandmothers favored in the 1950s.  Ugggh!  My Grandma Jean had slightly better taste and had just pink and blue Chinese wool area rugs, until she passed at 93 years!       Wow...really???!       So, we HAD to do something and had pulled up a corner of that "rosie" 45 year old carpet, to find gorgeous ribbon inlay that looked like mahogany, married to "quarter sawn oak" floors GORGEOUS!       Today, none of us could afford the kind of workmanship:  hammered parquet oak that is an inch thick... 10/21/2014

      If you have ever tried to move a horse -- down the road, much less 4 states away -- it's a 1,400 lbs. nightmare.  YES, that's what's my American Warmblood registered mare, Krystol, weighs.  She's a big girl like her mama (me) and a love, but she's tall (6 ft 1 inches at her back), and stubborn.  Krys mad it clear that does not like honkin metal machinery near and around her!   Forrest and I booked two transport vans, to the tune of $500 each as of May.  Neither team could help me and our trainer load and move her after a May and June attempt, with me driving down to Virginia and couch surfing.  Now, horse transport drivers are not really required to walk, load or push your horse on.  Believe me, we tried all of that, with straps on her butt, a little crop tapping her big butt etc.... 07/30/2014

What does 9-11 mean to us, on this day of reflection   Most of us remember where we were, who we were with and those stunning, sad events on 9/11/01.  Especially for New Yorkers, September 11th has become a day of somber remembrance.  We recall the thousands of lives taken by an act of terrible terrorism in two of our major American cities...New York and Washington, D.C. Forrest and I still lived in Northern Virginia at the time, and I was on my way to a Washington Boulevard television editing facility.  Right after one of Forrest's employees called and told us not to leave for work and to turn on the TV.  After watching the 2nd plane hit the Towers, I got a call.     My editor, Bill Parks, told me that the windows had blown out and not to come down to Arlington -- that he thought the P... 09/11/2013

Price of being Green is all in the eye of the beholder in Fleetwood, NY 10552     As someone who is feeling her age at now 50, wow...did not think I'd live this long, driving on the Hutch Pkwy...I just have to share.  Many of us actually DID walk a mile to school or our school bus each day.  Mom drove a VW squareback and was a single mother, who could not chauffer me to ballet, or sports and such.  Our school got us to swim and crew meets, and we walked or took a bus to ballet, if the weather was rainy.  I was saving bottles and recycling aluminum before this smart assed kid was born -- or just a twinkle in Daddy's eye. Severe weather slammed through the Tri-state area this weekend, but really missed Westchester County Hillary's Helpful Safety Tips for Severe Weather...yo! New Rochelle's finest responded after a  large branch fell on wire at the corner of Hutchison Boulevard and took down two wires.  On impact, a nearby transformer exploded and a homeowner heard a large explosion, as she lost power. A small fire broke out and that homeowner called the fire department for help, but that's as close as the severe weather this weekend came to Fleetwood, NY 10552.  We were expecting some calls from the intense rain, but no one needed help with flooded basements at our Servpro of Scarsdale / Mount Vernon.
