Sometimes you need to just seriously take a break, even if for a solid hour or two, to allow alone time and gathering of thoughts and rejuvenation of personal energy. One of my favorite places to do this when on Long Island is along the Fire Island Cost line. I absolutely LOVE it here, especially during Fall and Winter, when the touristy crowds have dissipated. During the last un-official weekend of Summer, I treated myself to a tour of the Fire Island Light House. I have to say, this has become one of my new favorite places on Long Island, and it only took me 34 years to discover it, ha! If you decide to embark on this day trip, drive over to Robert Moses State Park in Long Island, NY. And be sure to park in Field 5. That is where the trail-head begins for the Fire Island Lighthouse walk and to hike to the first community of Kismet.   Be sure you don't mind high places and tight spaces.  I believe it took about 182 steps to reach the top. Fire Island Summer Vacation - A World All Its Own! There are so many towns for you to choose on Fire Island for your Summer vacation! Atlantique The narrowest part of Fire Island, and is  hard to get to as sand dunes provide walkways.  There are only about 50 homes, and it is a tight community totally committed to boating.  Everyone knows each other in Atlantique, and the whole community gathers at the Marina. Ah, back to my regularly scheduled posts!  Phyllis mentioned in a comment that I have been to many places this year and gotten to see many things and she's right, I have been SO fortunate to get called for Feng Shui Consultations from from all over.  Now I'm traveling by Ferry and it was a first :)  This post is more about pictures because you have to SEE Fire Island to believe it but it is an incredible place.Fire Island is divided into different areas.  And there are NO CARS ALLOWED!  Two of the areas I visited recently were Ocean Beach (the unofficial "Capitol" of Fire Island) and a stop in Cherry Grove.  Fire Island is one of the hottest places to have a beach house but it totally unlike The Hamptons.  There are no class barriers here and it's still considered a "Bohemian getaway." ... 07/04/2007
