Not fun!   So, Happy New Year with a flu chaser in January, everyone.  It's official!  Apparently, there is a near national epidemic flu season in progress.  It's being called the "worst in 10 years," by medical professionals.     With our outdoor temps going up to about 60 degrees this month, flu germs may get a shot in the arm , with big swings in weather that can make the season worse.     If you haven't been through this year's flu ...

Hello, Rainmakers:   Wishing you lots of fun & holiday merriment, even if you don't celebrate the Christmas holiday, but just get some much needed rest and a few days off.  Our clients are hunkered down, wrapping or going skiing and not available, so we can take a break!  We left our little "Charlie Brown Christmas Tree" and are off for a week, leaving the start-up (ahhhh) in the capable hands of our super staff.   Then, Forrest and I missed our connecting flight out of Westchester County airport, to meet family, but were happily stuck in hotel last night, on Hilton Honors perks, watching a movie.  It was the first time we'd slept in for months, this a.m.  Oh joy.     Have a Merry, Happy Merry, Joyful week, my AR family, and we hope that you can be in bunny slippers and relax a bit, too...

Flooded in Bronxville NY 10708 - Hurricane Sandy has left her mark   Did your basement flood from the Hurricane Sandy in Bronxville NY? Many low lying areas of Westchester, got hit hard from the Superstorm, including Bronxville, Larchmont, Rye, Mamaroneck, New Rochelle and Scarsdale. We've had a lot of customers calling due to drenched carpets. And, if you don't remove them soon enough, they really start to smell...and if they sit too long they could develop that forbidden word...mold. Yuck!   Sometimes, the water damage is covered by insurance, especially if it was due to an electrical failure. Usually, the insurance will compensate you for replacement value of what you had. We've had many customers in Bronxville who were so disgusted by the smell and ordeal associated with flooded car...

Bronxville, NY 10708 should brace for fast moving snow storm this week. We are expecting a mini-storm this weak that may spread some snow over most of Westchester County on Tuesday and continue into the early evening.  This is not a big storm, with probably only an inch of snow in Bronxville, NY 10708 and towns south of I-287. Forecasters are only calling for a bit of accumulation on non-paved surfaces in Bronxville and the lower Hudson valley towns and villages. Most roads throughout Westchester should just be a little wet, but look for slushy and slippery conditions, while this moderate snow falls.   More snow may accumulate north and west of Bronxville and towns that we serve -- like Scarsdale, Eastchester, Tuckahoe, Fleetwood and Mount Vernon.   Some travel delays are possible out o...

WE DODGED ANOTHER NOR'EASTER THIS WEEK, BUT SANDY MAY BE THE NEW NORMAL THIS WINTER FOR BRONXVILLE, NY 10708     It adds insult to injury that we're in a weather pattern that may bring severe winter storms and Nor'Easters our way this year!  Wasn't Sandy's destruction enough?   We have been very busy helping our clients extract the Long Island Sound out of their homes after Sandy's visit, and even cleaned out public buildings throughout Westchester County.  These tips noted below would have been more help a week ago, at least for those who had their power on fairly quickly.       Sandy was an immense storm that was actually unprecedented in our area -- when she arrived in late October.  Remember last year's freak snow storm just before Halloween that dumped two feet of snow in some area...

Hurricane Sandy may bring serious wind and storm damage that could flood Bronxville, NY 10708 With Hurricane Sandy following a track towards our New York area, disaster response companies like ours are all saddling up – like we did during last year’s “Stormtober.” Remember the unexpected October 28th snow storm, when the leaves were still on trees and power lines were downed all over Westchester County?  Wow! I'll have more information as we learn more about this storm that could come in as a Category 1 hurricane, or slow down to a tropical storm Monday.  Just wanted to share some research and storm tips for all! Now, we’re expecting a so called “Frankenstorm,” by early next week, just in time to ruin another Halloween in Bronxville, NY 10708.  Plus, it’s a full moon and, with our month...

Carpet Runner Trends - Westchester New York Lately, we've been getting a lot of requests for Carpet runners on stairs in Westchester County. Runners on the stairs serve 2 purposes: 1) safety (less likely to trip, easier on your feet and easier for pets to go up/down the stairs) and 2) decorative (this is especially important if steps can be viewed from the entryway - afterall, it's the first impression of your home). Here are trends I'm seeing in Westchester County for Carpet runners: 1) Simpler styles are in and "less is more." Regardless of whether it's a higher quality/fancier runner, simpler designs seem to be winning out. These have both an upscale appearance and importantly don't compete with the area rugs and decor in other adjoining rooms (usually the living room and dining room...

It's always helpful to evaluate which of your blog posts are doing better.  These are the top 3 from my Wordpress site on TheFlooringGirl.com.  These posts are 7-9 months old.  And, continue to get more hits...in fact, they seem to be getting better with age. 1.  Red Oak Flooring vs White Oak Flooring - What's the difference? 8,282 hits (written 1/8/12).  This post explains the 2 different species of oak hardwood.  According to my analytics, it is drawing in customers searching for red oak, white oak and the comparison of the two.   2.  Oil vs Water based polyurethane - what's the difference?  5,184 hits (written 12/4/11).  This really helps customers understand the pros and cons between these 2 types of polyurethane.  It seems that most contractors don't explain this to this to their c...

Severe weather may flood homes, businesses & bring dangerous hail & lightening ~ Bronxville, NY 10708    Your weather Safety Hints from Hillary are below:   But first, our severe weather that rained down on the Tri-state area this Saturday stretched from Westchester County and NY state, to our north and south, all the way to Boston and down to the Florida Panhandle. This storm was a monster.   Westchester County’s hail and flood damage threats diminished overnight on Saturday.  But, with our high water table from recent rain showers, the chance for flooding in low areas of Bronxville, NY and the lower HUD rose by the hour!   Our most significant threat from this weekend storm were high winds, predicted to exceed 40 mph and rain brought the chance of flash flooding from slow-moving thund...

It's time to take a look back at my top posts for June.  Most of these were featured.  This is helpful to see what is interesting here on AR, but it doesn't necessarily provide the best snapshot of what the public is finding via search.  Soon, I'm going to publish my top wordpress blog posts which is really based on search results (rather than AR community).  I wish there was a better way to use analytics on AR to see sort the top posts and look at this over time, and from searches that were done in google vs. what was featured on AR.  Maybe some day... I just got a lead from my t-shirt  Sometimes, just letting people know what you do is a sure way to start a conversation and get some leads wo/ extra effort.  (Also, BTW, I just got a new lap top sticker...and already got a lead from tha...

Hi all ~ reblogging this because it's a quintessential west to northeast storm -- then and now, through Wednesday morning.  Plus, dopplar looks almost exactly like our radar this week.  The storm that helped put out some of the Tennessee fires overnight is on it's way up the coast.  We already had one wet basement call come in and are on the way to help clean a Bronxville homeowners flood.  So, look below for my tips and do's and don'ts! Flooding rains may lead to water damaged homes and businesses in Bronxville, NY 10708Our usually spot-on National Weather forecasters alled for a wet week in Westchester County and the lower Hud. During some heavy downpours today, I had flashbacks to flooding storms, during last summer's catastrophic hurricane, and our Tropical Storm Lee "chaser." There are flood warnings for incoming rain and high winds this week, so here are more "Hints from Hillary:" Not all floods are alike. There are actually three main varieties of floods to watch for if you live in an area that is susceptible to flooding -- like in the Bronxville, NY 10708 area.  This includes river floods, flash floods and coastal flooding along the Long Island Sound, in our region.   I did some research for all of us on what to look for, thanks to the CDC and National Flood sites.  This   may help our local communities, during unpredictable spring weather this year: River Flooding Damage ~ The type of flooding that is known as river flooding is a high flow or overflow of water that usually develops slowly, often over a period of days along a river, creek or stream. River...
