I hope you enjoy the change of season as much as we do in New Hampshire A new Season has arrived Winter solstice December 21st...photo perspective now and then. These two shots were taken 3 months apart and from with in three feet of where I last stood. The pond now ready for skating and 6 months ago still being excavated for the gravel. Mount Liberty in the background winter and fall...the excavation equipment is gone for the winter but the dirt piles are still in view (thankfully hidden by the snow). Pemi base lodge at Loon's south Peak resort...trails ready to open later Christmas Week, and fall foliage shot. The river was nearly iced over today, but not too long ago the field was open and green. I hope you enjoy the change of seasons in your neck of the woods as much as well do i...

You may all think I’m nuts, but I had this crazy notion to build my own Olympic size training ground…for my son and his friends.   I started the permitting process three years ago, and started excavating a year later (with the 5 required state and town permits completed). 300 x 70 in June   My son runs Track, and a standard inner lane is 400 meters in length How to construct an oval that is 1,312 feet long? I asked my engineer and we plotted it out on a survey, it can be done and so we began. 400 x130 today   Did you know an Olympic size Pool is 164 feet (50 meters) X 84 feet (25 meters)? Did you know an Olympic regulation size hockey rink is 200 feet X 100 feet (60 X 30 Meters) and did you know if you were digging a one to three sloped wall…which will be filled with water 5 feet down...

White Mountains , Pemigewasset River, Animal & People tracts. A clean slate.   Coyote seen in the yard last night. Oxbow..or secondary branch off the main river.   The main branch only a third of the river remains unfrozen. Blow down from the last strong wind. One mile out and time to turn around Barely visible fence posts, are actually 4 ft tall..1/2 a mile from home. Almost home..no need for bread crumbs. No longer a clean slate..and a good work out as well. Try a snow shoe, when you get ten feet of snow or more each year this is the way to see your surroundings. If you're lucky you may see many animal tracts, and no people tracts like I did today.

Like most people in America I have to commute to work, but I'm not looking for sympathy I would like to share my drive. This is my kitchen window view, I get to see this every morning over coffee before the dreaded commute to work. As I approach the highway entrance ramp my last glimpse of nature before the high-speed commute. Another difficult merge into the throngs of sour commuters, I never count the cars but on this day I saw five in the first five miles of my hellish ride to work. On the exit ramp I begin to wonder how anyone can live with all this pavement and urban sprawl, I have to get past that now and get on my "A" Game. It is work after all. After that horrible 6 mile commute is over at least the views from my office window isn't that bad and I Allow myself to calm down befor...

The golf Course is owned by former Master champion Doug Ford (a green jack winner in 1956), his son Mike and his wife. The course has never been in better shape, and many that visit and play say the fall foliage is their favorite time to visit the Woodstock New Hampshire course. Many of the return visitors tell me they have played the course for 50 years and even honeymooned here.  The food is great, the golf superber and the accommodations are first rate. You can rent a golf side condominium or purchase one of the few remaining places along the first hole of the course.  The on-site condominiums feature a screened porch, fireplace, and are uniquely designed to have a lock off hotel room as part of the condominiums. So you can book a place as a single couple or by opening up the lock...

Bode Miller: Two time silver medalist, two time World Cup Champion, one of Americas greatest Skiers these are the things we all know. But did you know that Bode will again train by himself and not with the American team coaches. Even the name Bode is unconventional, his work-outs are not what normal athletes would find on their training schedule either. Running in river beds, rock hopping and pushing wheal-barrows up hills sounds like a day on the farm, and that is what it is for Bode. The Organic Farm Bode purchased and his sister runs is in Franconia New Hampshire, not too far from the family home in Easton NH is the site of much of the summer work-outs. The media has played up the growing up roughing it angle and rightfully so, Bode had only an out-house for most of his youth and th...

Lancaster Humane Society: a non-profit, tax exempt organization, privately funded, with a motto that says it all: "We are Small but we care big". Over the last several years I have been invited to some friends house this year it's a September 6th, A night of food, fun, music and friends. The project is to raise money for the animal shelter to help fund their no kill policy.  The web site is www.lhsnokill.org they also offer their patrons alternative locations to donate too, that's right this site will help you find a shelter in your area that will save the lives of abandoned pets. My Friends Steve Martin and Mary Ann Walters, put on a fund raiser every year and have directly donated with the help of this Annual September bash- over $40,000 to the Lancaster Humane Society (NH). Martin an...

The only thing better than the food is the view, Be here early to get a seat near the Indian Leap Gorge. We were late and opted to wait till a view table opened up. There is a quaint screened in lounge area where you can wait to be seated, or as many first time visitors do, walk across the trestle bridge over the deep cavern formed by Lost River. Open Wednesday to Sunday, from July 2nd to Labor Day.Phone 603-745-5009   The Northern Italy, fare is what the locals come for but visitors don't get to see this view from many restaurants in their home towns, I bet. If you are planning a trip to the White Mountains and don't mind going out to dinner early or waiting for a table This spot is worth it. The Menu includes : Linguine, Lasagna, Manicotti, Tortellini, Shrimp Scampi, Veal Parmigiana, ...

Glover Brook with it spectacular series of waterfalls, flows into the Pemigewasett river in Woodstock NH. Elbow pond in the National Forest is the source of this secluded swimming hole. Where at the height of the spring rain has allowed white water kayaking for the adventurous few.  Try Fly fishing or a very private dip on a hot day. The flume gorge is another breath taking brook carving into the rock for eons and creating a natural wonder at the Franconia Notch state park (Lincoln NH). Skilled hikers can have a go at Mount Lafayette, Lincoln, Liberty and Haystack all 4,000 + foot elevation mountains, for the less adventurous Indian head is a nice walk in the woods with a great view for less effort. Enjoying the Whites as the locals call them, is one of the mysteries that brought Robert...

Yes that is a mouth full, and there are probably many reading this thinking a zero interest loan is not legal, by statute (correct) you win the prize, in this creative solution test. But, I recently put a deal together for my seller motivated to part with an unfinished condominium project. Here are the issues we faced: can't get conventional financing as the unit was just studded on the inside (exterior completed), Could have gotten a construction loan but they are harder to come by and require a bigger equity position than the buyer could manage (and he would then be required to have all the additional money to complete out of pocket). The buyer had some money and could do the labor himself, so we set about to make a deal work. The solution was to have 10% down (leaving the buyer with ...

Property Showing March 21st, 2008 / Vacant Ski Chalet at Loon Mountain  This is a standard 6 '6" tall slider off to a back deck, I took the photo with a camera phone my buyers' were a little concerned about the weight against the glass and on the wooden deck. The Lincoln /Woodstock area has unofficially received 16 feet of total accumulation so far this year. We had to place a bench in front of the entry door so the buyers could step down from the four foot snow bank to get in, and luckily that door had been shoveled a few more times than this back door.. honest this a deck that no one shoveled this winter and it has two steps down to the deck surface (or the door would be covered to the top).. Anyone want to help me shovel?
