The Town of Londonderry had its own version of the hit TV series "Extreme Makeover" with Project Bernadette. The project came about when friends of Bernadette became aware of the plight she was in; never one to complain, it appeared no one who new Bernadette was aware that her house was in dire need of a make over. This past weekend , after weeks of preparation and organization, Project Bernadette was launched. Many in the Town of Londonderry were organized into a huge volunteer force; included in the numbers were the Londonderry High School Football Team led by their Coach, The Londonderry Knights of Columbus out of St. Jude Parish and a host of individual caring people who also just wanted to help . During this past Saturday and Sunday new flooring was installed, carpeting put down, r...

All residents in Londonderry have something to be proud of, since our High School has been named as the best High School for this year. James Elefante has been principal their for approximately 4years and is retiring in June, after decades of service to Londonderry, he formerly was principal at Mathew Thorton Elementary. The naming of Londonderry High as the best in New Hampshire is an award that everyone from the Town Council, School Board and especially the residents of Londonderry can be proud of.

The news for Londonderry home owners trying to sell their houses, or thinking of selling their homes appears to be getting better. Today I calculated the absorption rate for Residential and Condominum properties in the Town. The absorption rate is a simple calculation to determine how long it will take the market to absorb the current amount of inventory that is for sale. Inorder to calculate the absorbtion rate you take the total amount of solds for Residential and Condo's last year (344), and divide this by 12 to get a per month sold amount of 28.67. Then take the amount of Residential and Condo's that are activily on the market (189 listings) and divide this by the per month sold figure from 2007: 189 Current Listings divided by 28.67 solds per month = 6.5 months absorbtion rate. The...

The Market Absorption Rate is a theoretical means of measuring where the market is - are we in a buyers, or sellers market? As of today January 6th, there are 94 Residential Homes for sale in Londonderry, NH.For the month of December 8 Residential Homes sold in Londonderry, NH.So, taking the 1 month sales figure of 8 homes for Deceember, and dividing it into the total inventory of 94 we get 11.75.That number 11.75 represents the theoretical number of months of inventory that is currently on the market in Londonderry.  A true Sellers Market would be indicated by less than 6 months of inventory.  11.75 means that in the month of December, it was a buyers market but not as much as in November.  Different conditions may exist at different price points.  Sept 2007 - 7.83Oct 2007 - 8.13Nov 200...

This is pretty cool and something a little different than the traditional sitting on Santa's lap routine.  Today, Saturday December 15th at 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Santa will be in Londonderry New Hampshire at the Londonderry Access Center. This is your child's opportunity to be on TV with Santa.  Not only Santa will be on hand to listen to your child's wish list but he'll also give them a special treat as well as being broadcast on CTV-20 for everyone to see.  And the neat thing is... in case you miss seeing the live show it will be rebroadcast several times to give everyone an opportunity to see themselves on TV with Santa. Talk about making memories...this is sure to be one that will be treasured by your little ones for a long time. Not everyone gets an opportunity to be on TV with Santa...

The Market Absorption Rate is a theoretical means of measuring where the market is - are we in a buyers, or sellers market? As of today December 1st, there are 112 Residential Homes for sale in Londonderry, NH.For the month of November 7 Residential Homes sold in Londonderry, NH.So, taking the 1 month sales figure of 7 homes for November, and dividing it into the total inventory of 112 we get 16.That number 16 represents the theoretical number of months of inventory that is currently on the market in Londonderry.  A true Sellers Market would be indicated by less than 6 months of inventory.  16 means that in the month of November, it was a buyers market for sure.  Now, this is not reason to panic if you are a seller.  The holiday season is typically slow for Real Estate sales as people ar...

Wondering where you can go for a walk in the wilderness? The Musquash Conservation Area has the answer. The term Musquash comes from the Algonquin word for muskrat. Today it describes a forest block of over 900 acres in the western part of Londonderry.  The area is made up of forested, rolling hills dotted with wetland areas that provide natural habitat for moose, deer, beaver, and painted and Blanding's turtles to name just a few species.  This landscape also provides an enjoyable place for outdoor recreation for the citizens of the area.  The Musquash Conservation Area was established in 1979 to meet the goals of preserving wildlife habitat, developing recreational opportunities, and establishing an active forest management program.  Recent purchases of land and the acquisition of donat...

So you work in Boston and you are wondering how anyone would reliably get from Londonderry NH to the big city.First, you could simply hop in your car and get on I93 at either exit 4 or 5 and head south.56 minutes and 44 miles later (give or take) and you're there.Of course, if you prefer to mkae more of your commute, maybe working or reading instead of focusing on driving and listening to a CD or the radio you could take a Concord Coach from just off Exit 4 in Londonderry.  Give this a click for more infoAnd if the Jet set is your bag, Manchester Boston Regional Airport is actually in Londonderry.....  Ok, it would probably be a little silly to fly to Boston, you'd spend more time taxiing than in the air.Londonderry, as well as many ohter communities in Southern NH are often considered ...

There really was an Ocean Born Mary. History reports she was born at sea on July 28, 1720 to James and Elizabeth Wilson. Legend tells us they were passengers on a ship filled with immigrants to New England when privateers appeared. The pirate captain reportedly promised not to harm the passengers if the Wilsons named their new baby after his mother (or was it his wife?). The Wilsons disembarked in Boston and moved to Londonderry, NH where red-haired Mary wed James Wallace in 1742, wearing a dress made from the silk presented to her at birth by the unnamed privateer. This much of the story may be true. Mary had four children and was in her 70s when her husband died. She moved in with a son in Henniker, NH until she passed away in 1814 at the ripe old age of 94 (quite long lived by todays...

1718 - a group of Irish immigrants visited the area then called Nutfield because of the abundance of nut bearing trees in the area.  They believed it would be a good site for a community, settled and developed the community and four years later, in June 1722, the Nutfield area was incorporated as a township and renamed Londonderry after the city in Ireland from which most of the settlers had come. Early settlers spread out into surrounding villages, bringing Scottish and Irish names like Antrim, Derry and Dunbarton. Londonderry was the second largest town in early colonial times.  The original Londonderry township encompassed much of the area now known as Derry, Londonderry and Windham and also parts of Manchester, Salem, and Hudson. These towns have a rich history with many famous sons...

Its that time of year.  Along with the annual Old Home Day celebration we are also blessed here in Londonderry with the opening of Macks Apple Farm (officially open Yesterday Aug 15th).  While the Ice Cream stand and Duck Pond have been open all summer, the farm stand does not open until the apple crop ripens.  Whether you live in Londonderry or just want to take a trip to the country and pick your own make Macks a destination before summer is over, and return for those fresh apples for your holiday pies.  Mmmmmmm, Pie!http://www.londonderrynh.net/?p=1250http://www.macksapples.com/

As reported on LondonderryNH.net, mosquitos tested in towns near Londonderry have tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis.http://www.londonderrynh.net/?p=1175But really, how much of a threat is EEE?  Clearly any pathogen transferred by something as ubiquitous and ever present as a mosquito is something to be mindful of, but are we in "peril"?  Is it worth exposing ourselves to more chemicals in the form of insecticides being applied to our schoolyards and playgrounds? As a homeowner I have taken the initiative to control mosquitos in my yard.  A half acre yard can be protected for under $300.  A propane tank is needed as well as a source of electricity.  Visit http://www.mosquitomagnet.com/ for more information.  It is far more effective than spraying because the millions of trap...

Be a Part of Londonderry's New Playground Today! If you haven't noticed the large sign up in front of Londonderry's central fire station, Project P.L.A.Y. has been working hard to raise the funds necessary to renovate the Nelson Road playground, the town's only public playground. Built about 20 years ago, the existing playground has fallen into disrepair and is in desperate need to be brought up to current safety standards.Since fundraising began at last year's Old Home Day celebration, the one-year-old non-profit organization has brought in about $30,000 in donations, all of which has come from the generosity of individuals and businesses as well as from events such as the group's successful Touch-A-Truck fundraiser, held on Father's Day weekend this past June. For the month of July, Pro...

Buyers Market? All over the media, in newspapers, TV, Radio and the internet we are constantly being reminded of the "Doom and Gloom" condition of the Real Estate market.  Some would say the market is cold, slow, transitioning, etc.  It is true; Buyers are now in the drivers seat and sellers are struggling with parting with a home for what they perceive as a loss based on pricing from 24-48 months ago.  Woe be the seller who bought at the peak of the market.Londonderry, NH is no different.  As highlighted in the graphic illustrations below there has been a significant adjustment in market conditions.Average monthly units sold - down from a high of 23 in 2004 to 14 year to date 2007Average selling price - down from a high of $353,549 in 2005 to $336,585 year to date 2007.  The most notabl...
