The Town of Londonderry had its own version of the hit TV series "Extreme Makeover" with Project Bernadette. The project came about when friends of Bernadette became aware of the plight she was in; never one to complain, it appeared no one who new Bernadette was aware that her house was in dire need of a make over. This past weekend , after weeks of preparation and organization, Project Bernadette was launched. James Elefante has been principal their for approximately 4years and is retiring in June, after decades of service to Londonderry, he formerly was principal at Mathew Thorton Elementary. The news for Londonderry home owners trying to sell their houses, or thinking of selling their homes appears to be getting better. Today I calculated the absorption rate for Residential and Condominum properties in the Town. The absorption rate is a simple calculation to determine how long it will take the market to absorb the current amount of inventory that is for sale. Inorder to calculate the absorbtion rate you take the total amount of solds for Residential and Condo's last year (344), and divide this by 12 to get a per month sold amount of 28.67. Then take the amount of Residential and Condo's that are activily on the market (189 listings) and divide this by the per month sold figure from 2007: 189 Current Listings divided by 28.67 solds per month = 6.5 months absorbtion rate. There really was an Ocean Born Mary. History reports she was born at sea on July 28, 1720 to James and Elizabeth Wilson. Legend tells us they were passengers on a ship filled with immigrants to New England when privateers appeared. The pirate captain reportedly promised not to harm the passengers if the Wilsons named their new baby after his mother (or was it his wife?). The Wilsons disembarked in Boston and moved to Londonderry, NH where red-haired Mary wed James Wallace in 1742, wearing a dress made from the silk presented to her at birth by the unnamed privateer. This much of the story may be true. Mary had four children and was in her 70s when her husband died. 1718 - a group of Irish immigrants visited the area then called Nutfield because of the abundance of nut bearing trees in the area.  They believed it would be a good site for a community, settled and developed the community and four years later, in June 1722, the Nutfield area was incorporated as a township and renamed Londonderry after the city in Ireland from which most of the settlers had come. Early settlers spread out into surrounding villages, bringing Scottish and Irish names like Antrim, Derry and Dunbarton. Londonderry was the second largest town in early colonial times.  The original Londonderry township encompassed much of the area now known as Derry, Londonderry and Windham and also parts of Manchester, Salem, and Hudson. Be a Part of Londonderry's New Playground Today!If you haven't noticed the large sign up in front of Londonderry's central fire station, Project P.L.A.Y. has been working hard to raise the funds necessary to renovate the Nelson Road playground, the town's only public playground.
