Loon Mountain Ski area to open 12/11/09  ...weather permiting   I was walking in the yard today...it was 60 degrees out and the Pemigewasset river was over flowing it banks. Its December 3rd in the white mountains of New Hampshire I washed my car in the driveway today after the sun came out The sun was peaking through the clouds , the river high and the mountains were black today. But two days from now the ski area will open a few trails up-top, the plan will be Gondola ride up ski one upper chair and gondola down when you're done for the day.            Hey...its not perfect but we should be skiing its December in New Hampshire.   All this rain will get the snow guns going as soon as it gets cold at night, see you on the hill.   Here's hoping for a white Winter...Loon Mountain Bear C...

Some Fresh White covering in the White mountains of New Hampshire...enjoy this Sunday scene, of majestic peaks in the distance. November 29th...Mountain scenes Lincoln New Hampshire...Loon Mountain Ski Resort The official start of Winter is still three weeks away, but the White Mountains change of season has already begun. The Valley floors are still green but the temperature differences at the peaks...means rain in town and snow on the mountains. Rising up from the Ski Village of Lincoln New Hampshire, the mountains tend to be out of season throughout the year compared the towns where we live. The Mountains are slow to get green in the spring, quick to change color in the fall and first to be White as winter approaches. The trails on the slopes look different in the fall. Picture Taken...

Out with the old and in with the new... Lincoln New Hampshire: for the past 23 seasons the North Country center for the arts was housed in a machine room once used to make paper.   The Old Paper mill...was turned into a theater for the last 23 summer seasons.   The Paper Mill Theater was born from the ashes of the Franconia Paper Mill the areas largest employer from the mid-1800’s through the mid 1970’s.   When Former New Hampshire Governor Sherman Adams came back to Lincoln New Hampshire to build a ski resort, many in the timber and paper industry didn’t have his vision. Fast Forward over 40 years, Loon Mountain Ski Resort is the largest ski ticket seller in the state and attracts visitors year-round. The North Country Center for the Arts new play house will be named after Sherman Ad...

Rustic , Chalet, Log  and Adirondack Homes...simple ski chalet have gotten bigger and much more complicated than the early days of "Camp". The early Adirondack style was a summer camp, using what ever local material was available to build. These vacation get aways where in remote places and more often than not the stone, tree bark, and local species of timber were employed to build your "camp". A Colorado Log home shipped from across the country...stone covered foundation, and a heated driveway to keep the ice melted are construction methods available to clients that want custom conveniences in their vacation  homes. People have fallen in love with the look and feel of the rustic cabin and can have as much or as little built in to their homes these days, with out the constraints of just...

All of the Home inspectors I have ever recommended are Members of Either- NACHI (National Association of Certified Home Inspectors) /or/ ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors). In addition to those affiliations and certifications the State of New Hampshire will require they be licensed by the New Hampshire Board of Home Inspectors, by January 1, 2010. I have had a few inspection issues missed over the years and welcome the additional education and certification that a licensing body will bring to the practice of home inspections. Check out the attached NH.Gov web site for more information. November 16, 2009 Mandatory licensing of home inspectors in effect Jan. 1 All New Hampshire REALTORS® should be advised that pursuant to New Hampshire statute RSA 310-A:189, all home inspectors pr...

White Mountain rains are filling Loon Mountain's snow making ponds, in time for the snow machines to get cranked up. I drove up to the ski slopes today and the Snow guns were all out and ready for the first cold snap to start blowing the white stuff.   I have to say the Late October showers and the total lack of leaves, makes me ready for a change of season. The sign winter is near the clocks falling back, Wet cold weather, and tripping over my ski bag recently signaled change.   Above shot:  Bear Claw trail, view of Mount Washington over my left shoulder (last year). See you on the hill soon...Loon Mt Lincoln NH

What a difference two weeks make, The first photo is from Early October and the second shot is from today. Dramatic reds against a nearly clear blue sky...this day is behind us now. New Hampshire has shed its bright colors in favor of the grays and browns that occur soon after the peak of fall foliage. The slopes of Loon Mountain Ski area, have gotten their first dusting of snow and a major loss of leaves...the grays and whites have set in, and you can bet this will be followed by more and more white. One week ago today October 11th 4:30 in the afternoon from my kitchen window. October 18th 4:30 same view from my kitchen window. Its time to buy the ski season's pass and get the firewood in...the cold is coming and snow wouldn't be far behind. I'll be ready for the ski season, will you? ...

Columbus day in the White mountains was simply majestic...foliage was beautiful and many drove over the Kancamagus scenic highway to observe the leaves changing colors. This morning one day after the fall foliage peak...of leaf peeper season, we woke to something not unexpected but too soon for many people taste. Yes Folks Snow in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. We are expecting 1-3 inches of the white stuff, don't let it be said we can't move on. One day after the traditional three day holiday spent gazing at the leaves ...we turn to ski season. I think New Hampshire State Motto is on target...Live free or Die, we are ready for anything you throw our way. This rusty box car is parked behind my office, I see it almost everyday and it's a reminder not to be  too set in my ways...ta...

Your White Mountain New Hampshire property expert; ASKS?   Why / Hire a Buyer Broker For your second home purchase? When buyers are at a distance from their purchase there can be lots of critical items that can be over looked.   Why / Buyer representation, the listing agent has a fiduciary duty to the seller, not to you. Sure we all attempt to be fair and answer a buyer’s questions honestly…but what if you don’t ask? Then who is looking after your best interests? The seller is not paying his agent to volunteer possible issues that could occur down the road…only the known material facts of the property.   How / can a buyer know what the best properties are worth, sell for, or have the best locations? All buyers can search on-line for price and size, but you can’t tell what work has bee...

Sunrise under cloudy skies...Ok Good Title, But Otter Rocks & Rainbows...Steve Have you completely lost your mind? I assure you I have a little bit left, but there are a few places in the National forest of New Hampshire that you just have to see to understand this post. I must be at school before 7 am, and that leaves me a little time to cruise the National Forest lands on my way to work. Take a look at some of this morning pictures and then ask yourself is he crazy...or just lucky to live on the edge of 800,000 acres of wilderness. Sunrise under cloudy skies. Otter Rocks...picnic area along the Kancamagus scenic highway...had my coffee here this morning. Rainbow over Campton Dam, my daily ride after the school drop off...100 yards from the branch office.        And Now for your Foliag...

My wife who is the Guest service manager at South Peak Resort, Put on a great party last night. I posted earlier about Mo the clown/ balloon twister...now on to the adult portion of the night. Great Music and Wonderful food. First up Bruce Marshal, who played many of the tunes he played with BB,King, the Marshal Tucker band and others. We played a bit of "name the sixties band" recalling our days Growing up in Sudbury Mass together. It was an intimate affair and the private show was enjoyed by all. Not to be out done by the music, Tony's Italian Grill did a superb job catering the Autumn South Peak Home owners party. The Appetizers...smoked salmon, cheeses, duck, and clams...nice start..Tony! Main Course..Squash, Red Potatoes, Veggie Lasagna, and pork tenderloin.   Sweets..Maple Syrup Co...

When having a homeowners party, there is always the concern of how do you engage the children, so the adults can have time to meet their neighbors. The Mo Show- Balloon twisting, Talk about engaging.                           Mo the clown...Also comes in full make up to your party.... if that's the plan. Last bit of humor...Mo is also a Justice of the Peace...theory being if you are going to marry a clown, you may as well be married by a clown. Thanks for the Show Mo!! I never heard..."mom- dad when are we going", this was the perfect party distraction for the younger crowd. Who is this Mo The Clown anyway??   Want a great balloon twister at your event?   Mo The Clown is a white face clown living in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.   Mo is also Mo Fun, a non clown balloon buffoon.  ...

Kancamagus...proper pronunciation "kank-ah-maw-gus"...was a term the Penacook Native American Tribes gave to this part of northern New Hampshire. It mean "The Fearless One", if you have ever driven the Kanc (as the locals call it)...you know you have to be fearless to drive this route during the winter. But in the Fall there is no better foliage drive in the country. One of the many Lookout points where you can pull over and enjoy the view. This morning the fog was socked in to the valley below and obscuring some of the spectacular mountain views.            The Kancamagus is considered one of America's best Scenic Byways, and many glimpses of the Pemigewasset and Swift Rivers along the route add to the enjoyment of the trip. The Trip to North Conway is 34 miles and there is no need to ...

the truth about most resorts and older subdivisions, is this: The first locations developed were in many cases the best proximity to the Best Feature of the Resort or Town. While construction practices and design amenities have changed over the years nothing beats location...and anything can be updated. Some examples of that in my Resort area are; #1 the Village of Loon Mountain Resort, some condos here are 35 years old and are competing for the same buyers as new construction in a similar price range. The exterior is nothing special to look at but the proximity to the ski slopes and the breathtaking views make future small interior up-dates worth While.      This view over the clubhouse pool & Tennis club, is available in most of the properties at this resort!  The Background is the No...

I was reading a blog earlier about taking time off for ones mental health.   I agree and offer this additional thought regarding time away.   Upon your return you are awakened by the idea ...these things I do and see keeps me living where I do.   Yesterday I sat at the beach on lake Michigan, and today I was back to work in New Hampshire.   After A tough day of catch up, I walked in the woods and enjoyed a walk around the reasons I live here. I had to share my view from the hammock. Home...Is more than a place to sleep indoors In case I have to sleep outside...there is always man-camp down by the river. Fish may be biting. Tough place to leave when you live in the mountains. Pretty cool place to come back too. All these were taken in my yard after work tonight. Do you think We sell Real...
