Signups for the Lou Athanas Youth Basketball League begin. Registration will take place at the Laconia Community Center on Union Ave on the following dates and times: Tuesday, September 30 from 6-8pm Saturday, October 4 from 9-Noon Tuesday, October 7 from 6-8pm A final registration date will also be held in the Community Room at the Laconia Police Station: Saturday October 18 from 9-Noon This year the cost will be $25 for one, $35 for two and $40 for three or more children from the same family.   New Hampshire residential sale prices in August 2008 are lower by 2 percent from August 2007 statewide with 4 percent less number of homes sold. Specifically Belknap county home prices are down 4% from last year with no less number of homes sold.  One of the Lake Region's favorite places to bask in the sun and have fun is the Laconia Weirs Beach Waterslide. Sitting on the shore of crystal clear Lake Winnipesaukee it's a great place to meet up with old friends, greet new ones and spend the day! The central attraction is the Volcano Waterslide. There is a Giant Volcano sitting atop of a hill making the appearance somewhat intimidating for the little ones, and can be seen from some distance away. Yes, it's an impressive sight which does create a little hesitancy for little ones at first, but after the first challenge is met, they hurry back up to dive again down the slide again, go through the waterfalls and into the crystal clear pool. The 37th annual steamboat meet begins this week on beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee here in the New Hampshire Lakes Region. This event, enjoyed by both young and old boat enthusiasts, began in 1972. Steamboats from all over the America meet at here at Lee's Mills in Moultonborough, NH. Here you will find old-hulled steamboats, reproductions, and replicas of original boats powered by five horsepower engines chugging along the narrows. South Down Shores in Laconia is one of the few gated communities in the Lake Winnipesaukee area.  It is located in Laconia, NH with 4,000 feet of shoreline on Lake Winnipesaukee's Paugus Bay.  It is a community made up of 450 properties.  There is a combination of single family homes, condominium villages and still some remaining buildable lots.  Their 4,000 feet of shore front consist of sandy beaches, a beach house, and the South Down Boat Club.  The boat club houses 40 boat slips, 10 of which are dedicated to the Boat Club, and 40 moorings and 218 dry berths.  For those that do not know what a dry berth is, it is a rack system in which boats are stored.  When owners decide to take a spin in their boats, all they need to do is call down to the Boat Club where the dock master will pic... 04/04/2008

Like any other market, home sales are subject to the laws of supply and demand. So a lower inventory is always good for those looking to sell. There are always a lot of homes for sale that have their listing agreements expire at the end of each month. For the 6 day period 12/28/07 to 1/2/08 there were 80 homes that expired in these towns. Have you ever been to "Bike Week" in Laconia or some other national motorcycle rally such as Daytona or Sturgis?I just returned home from a night in Laconia and spent about 17 minutes amidst the 26 million bikers that basically took over the town for the week. Don't get me wrong I would have loved to spend the entire day just people watching and being a part of such a major event but I was one of the 7 people in Laconia today that does not own a motorcycle and I cleverly parked on a street that was closed to 4 wheeled vehicles. Unfortunately as soon as I made it down towards the strip I noticed there was a tow truck in the area.Sure it's a "motorcycle rally" and yes the locals and the bikers refer to it as "bike week" but I think it's turned into more of a "real estate" rally than anyth... 06/17/2007
