Most of the smaller towns in New Hampshire do not provide weekly trash pickup.   Amherst, like most smaller towns,have a local transfer station that is open 5 days a week (including weekends and nights).  Most homeowners take their own trips to the transfer station where you toss your bags into the dumspters and if you are recycling, you go up top and thereyou deposit your cans, bottle, paper, plastic and more. There is a "still good" shed that is interesting.  It is a great place to take your books and useful household items for the next person.   Our office in Amherst is the original Station Master's house that was built in 1900. The Station Master had the home custom built and the original blue Prints are displayed over the stairs. It has changed very little over the years. How many times have you seen an agent submit an offer on your listing and they insert language that the second deposit is due after inspections... Nope, doesn't work for me.   I want a date specific or "upon release of inspections".  After inspections means when? The day after inspections a month after inspections? Agents need to be clear and concise when they write a purchase and sale agreement.  We want to protect all parties to the agreement, we want to give the buyer the opportunity to perform inspections, make a request if necessary, get an agreement, release the inspections and move on.  And we don't want the second deposit tied up because an agent was unclear about when it is due. I am not, nor will I ever be a Black Friday shopper.  I do not have the patience for lines and I prefer to shop at off times when there is a little less hustle and bustle. So I am on my computer this morning and I see QVC has a new touchcreen Android tablet that retails for $179. They are offering it for $129 and shipping is free. And the price is only good until midnight tonight.  I do my dilgence and I buy it for a Christmas gift.  Why?  Because it was a fantastic value, it will do the job we need it to do AND I know the price is soon going back up. My point is that this also applied to real estate.  There are buyers that are able to recognize the current "on sale" values in our local NH real estate market, the super low interest rates and the large inventory of homes to choose from. ... 11/26/2010

With many towns and cities in New Hampshire and across the country feeling the bite from the recession and spending cuts and revenue losses, we applaud the hard work of the folks at the Town of Amherst who held the line on spending and held taxes to a small increase for Amherst residents.     The new tax rate is $20.48 per $1000, an increase of just $.29 from last year. In Amherst, the small increase is largely due to a drop in the county portion of the bill, along with minor increases of a combined 33 cents per $1,000 in the state and local education portions. An economist with the New Hampshire Center for Public Policy Studies said 11/15/10 that NH has gained back more than half the number of jobs it lost and could regain the balance by early 2012.
