MAKE SAFETY THE SECRET INGREDIENT THIS THANKSGIVING🦃Your Essential Holiday Safety Guide  “Safety never takes a holiday.”—Paul Blart   Who would argue that Thanksgiving is a time to gather, enjoy a great meal, and reflect on what we’re grateful for? But between the cooking, the crowds, and the travel, the holiday also brings its share of potential hazards. From kitchen mishaps and food safety issues to slips, falls, and travel dangers, keeping safety top of mind ensures your celebration stays joyful—and incident-free.   “Safety does not come with luck. It has to be prepared.”—Author Unknown   Preparing a full Thanksgiving feast can mean complicated recipes, packed kitchens, and hours of cooking—all of which raise the risk of fires and injuries.  DON'T LET THANKSGIVING BITE BACK... BEFORE YOU SHARE THE TURKEY...HOLIDAY FOODS PETS SHOULD AVOID "I don’t get a seat at the Thanksgiving dinner table? This is a-paw-ling."... Anonymous Thanksgiving Day is only a few days away, bringing with it all the food, family, fun, and gratitude we look forward to each year. For pet owners, though, it’s also a reminder to stay alert about what ends up in your furry friend’s bowl (or what they may swipe from under the table). No one wants to spend the holiday at the emergency vet hospital. Those big, pleading eyes might make it tempting to share a bite of your feast, but many traditional Thanksgiving foods can be harmful to pets. To keep everyone safe and happy, it’s important to know which treats are okay to share and which should stay off-limits...

Property managers have a lot of things under their purview.  Different types of things break or need to be serviced on a rental home.  Most are handled by specialists in some regard who know how to work within the confines of what landlords require (no gold-plated toilets, please).  And sometimes it can be tough to find specialists who are a good fit. One of the vendors that has historically been a difficult find for BDF Realty is a good, reliable lawn company.  When the service area is as large as the Charlotte-Metro area, it’s understandable that not every company works everywhere we have rental homes; it’s tough to justify driving 20 minutes to mow one stray lawn!  Then properties are constantly in flux (vacant ones need to be mowed and rented ones don’t, and this changes constantly)...

When Holiday Magic Tiptoes In A Little Early... And Christmas Lights Glow Before The Turkey Is Served Ah, the holiday season—when joy fills the air and apple pie fills the oven. But hold on… is that a 12-foot inflatable Santa staring at me from the neighbor’s lawn? Seriously? We haven’t even carved the turkey yet! I live in a Charlotte neighborhood famous as a holiday-lights “destination,” and I truly love it. Driving in and out of the neighborhood in December feels magical, with homes glowing in all their festive glory. But this year? I’ve been stunned. Houses started decking their halls over two weeks ago. Last week alone, the neighbors on both sides of me—and across the street—lit up like it was already Christmas Eve. Meanwhile, I’m over here feeling like a slacker… but not enough of...

Do you remember where you were when you first heard that President Kennedy had been shot and killed on November 22, 1963—now 62 years ago? I remember hearing that news as if it were yesterday and not 62 years ago. "From Dallas, Texas, the flash apparently official, President Kennedy died at 1 p.m. Central Standard Time, 2 o'clock Eastern Standard Time, some 38 minutes ago."... Walter Cronkite, CBS News Anchor On November 22, 1963, I was 15 years old, a high-school sophomore, sitting in a biology lab when someone rushed in to announce the news. Because I attended a parochial school, my classmates and I quietly filed into the chapel to pray for the President before being dismissed early. I don’t think any of us who were old enough in 1963 have ever forgotten where we were or how we felt a...

Are You Being Misled by Your Home’s Online Value Estimate? What Online Estimates Can't Tell You About Your Home's Value With the real estate market and home values shifting and so many homeowners regularly checking online estimates, it’s more important than ever to understand how accurate those online estimates really are—whether you're considering selling or simply curious about your home’s true value. In my recent blog post, I raise an important question: Can you really trust online home value estimates? Most homeowners don’t realize these tools have a 7–8% median error rate for off-market properties. On a $400,000 home, that’s a difference of more than $28,000—enough to meaningfully influence home selling decisions around pricing, timing, and expectations. → Can You Really Trust Onli...

Celebrating Real-Life Royalty On National Princess DayWhat Defines A Real-Life Princess? Like many young girls of my generation, I grew up enchanted by Disney’s royal lineup—Cinderella, Snow White, Aurora, Rapunzel. Like so many girls, I imagined myself wearing a sparkling gown and tiara and living a storybook life. As the years passed, I realized that while fairy-tale royalty belongs in storybooks, real princesses exist in everyday life. And the lives of these real princesses have nothing to do with crowns👑, castles🏰, or a prince🤴 arriving on cue. So What Does Define A Real-Life Princess? "Behaving like a princess is work. It's not just about looking beautiful or wearing a crown. It's more about how you are inside."... Julie Andrews A true princess shows up in the world with qualities ...
