"Little " Washington,  NC  Waterfront/ photo Michele Connors It has been quite a busy month... and now that its the end of the month, I have been working with my clients ( both buyers and sellers) preparing for their closings. Some on the 30th and some on the 31st... Today was full of paperwork like settlement statements , insurance verifications, refrigerator delivery, final repair inspection, utility questions and calling in one more home warranty.  I havent really moved much today except for a few quick breaks. Mostly phone calls , emails and no kidding, about 100 text.I have one "other " thing on my mind helping me get through the day... The waterfront.  We have friends that own a restaurant on the waterfront of Washington, called "On The Waterfront" and I am pretty sure I will be...

Washington NC is one of those places I’d always heard of, but never visited. In fact, my family always called it “Little Washington” and I literally thought that was the name until we went through there last weekend!  We started looking at homes in this area (because that’s what we do) and were pleasantly surprised to find great values, and that the USDA Home Loan Eligibility Map includes the whole city! This means that EVERYTHING in Washington qualifies for USDA Home Loan financing. Washington NC is located about 15 minutes of Greenville NC – and is a beautiful historic town on the River, with lots of water for Boating.  If I worked in Greenville, I would DEFINITELY “live” (spend all of my time) in Washington! Homes in the historic area include cute cottages, and some new town homes.  ...

Search here for Historic Homes For Sale in Washington, NC A Little History About Washington The present day Beaufort County in eastern North Carolina was explored by the english in the late 1500s, but it was about a hundred years later before it was settled.  Colonists from Virginia expanded into what is now eastern NC but chose to establish Bath as their first settlement in about 1690.  It was 15 years later before the town of Bath was incorporated, making it the first town in "Caroline."   About 65 years later, a farmer named James Bonner started a town on his farm and called it "Forks of the Tar," referring to the Tar River.  In 1776, the name of this town was changed to "Washington" to honor the first President of the United States.   The "new" Washington was actually the first town...

Search through our daily updated list of waterfront homes for sale in Washington, NC here. A Little About Washington's History and the Pamlico River Washington, NC is the county seat of Beaufort County in eastern North Carolina.  Beaufort County was settled by colonists from Virginia in the 1690s on the north shore of the Pamlico River.  The Pamlico River, which originates in Washington, was formed by the joining of the Tar River and Tranters Creek just west of town. The town of Bath was the first choice of settlers in the area, which led to Bath becoming the first incorporated town in the state.  A settlement in Washington developed a little later and was known originally as Forks of the Tar, referring to the Tar River.  The town would later become the first town in the nation to be na...

Search here for Waterfront Homes near the Washington Yacht and Country Club in Washington, NC. What a Treasure in Eastern North Carolina! When I first moved to the Washington area in the mid-70s, one of the first people I met was Aubrey Moore (no relation).  At the time, I was in the boatyard business and Aubrey was the dockmaster at the Washington Yacht and Country Club in Washington NC.  I quickly realized just how affable and accommodating a person he was. These traits have not changed over the past 30-35 years and he still holds the same position. But, let me tell you a little about the WYCC itself. The WYCC Location and Facilities WYCC is located on Broad Creek, which is on the Pamlico River just east of Washington, NC. Broad Creek serves a significant portion of the marina complex...

Homes For Sale in Bath, NC Priced Below $200,000 We can help you will find your new home with our daily updated list of Homes For Sale in Bath, NC Priced Below $200,000. Bath: The Oldest Incorporated Town in North Carolina Bath, NC, a small community of about 250 residents in 2011, is located in eastern NC. It was incorporated in 1705, which makes it North Carolina's oldest town. Bath was originally settled by colonists from Virginia in the 1690s. These settlers were likely drawn to the area due to its water-access via the Pamlico Sound and Pamlico River. This prominent water route established the town as a major player in the Carolina colony and destined Bath to become a town of "firsts" in our state. As was many times the case, the Bath settlers battled disease, political unrest, conf...

Bill's Hot Dog Stand in Washington, NC When you think of historic landmarks, what is the first thing that comes to mind? I know....a hot dog stand, right?  No?  Not where you are?  Well, in Washington it is! A Little Bill's Hot Dog History Bill's Hot Dog Stand in Washington, NC was opened in 1928. The original stand's present location is at 109 Gladden Street in Washington, NC.  A second location has been opened in the past few years at the Washington Square Mall.  A few "Bill's Connoisseurs" claim the original location's dogs to be better than the new stand (sort of a large bottle of Coke vs. small bottle of Coke thing).  I must say that I have had plenty from both locations and can't discern any difference. I had the pleasure of working for a short while with one of the founder's sons...

We've all been working hard with too little reward to show for our efforts. Sometimes the best formula to create more abundance and flow in our lives is PLAY! I know that intellectually. I know that spiritually. Today I lived that experientially. We sailed our 14' Hobbie Cat Monohull day sailer on the Pamlico River. The breezes were great, there was no gasoline to buy and Henry & I had a chance to just talk and really listen to each other. These waters off the coast of North Carolina have hosted many boats. Our founders sailed them and settled their shores. Pirates profited and pillaged along our shores and have left many tales some of them even true. Waters off the coast have connected us to foreign lands, trade goods and more recently recreation. Kathryn Gorham | Sun-Surf Realty | Eme...

The area currently known as Beaufort County was originally explored by the English in the late 1500s but was not settled until about a century later.  Bath was founded in 1705 and became the first incorporated town in North Carolina.  James Bonner started the town that is currently known as Washington on his farm in 1770.  Originally, Washington was known as "Forks of the Tar," but the name was changed to Washington in 1776 to honor General George Washington.    Due to its favorable location and navigable waterway, Washington played a significant role in the Revolutionary War after more southern ports were blockaded by the British.  This prominent location established Washington as a cultural center of the area and eventually led to it being chosen as the county seat of Beaufort Coun...

Arguably, the single greatest attraction to the Washington area is the Pamlico River.  The Pamlico River originates in Washington and runs nearly west to east into the Pamlico Sound.  Years ago, Washington was a port city and offered transportation for all types of commodities.  Now, the attraction of the river is largely recreational.     Washington's most important attribute is the beautiful Pamlico River and its miles and miles of shoreline.  Many rivers offer a place to tie your boat but offer an area that's just not "user friendly."  Some areas do not offer protected water so that "your knuckles stay white" even on an afternoon daysail.  Other areas do not have protected anchorages at varying distances from marinas so that you can take trips and overnight to various places.   ...
