I have always had a fascination with history, especially local history. I love learning about where we started and seeing how far we've come. Wrightsville Beach is not just another pretty face, it's a place teeming with great stories, a place that generations of families have chosen to make their own. Visit the  Wrightsville Beach Museum Website. They are a great source of local information and of course, our history. I thank them for their invaluable help with this series. Wrightsville Beach was originally known as Ocean View Beach. In 1899 the  town was incorporated and re-named Wrightsville Beach, in honor of the Wright family of Wilmington. Wilmington Seacoast Railroad Co. built rail transportation, known as the "Beach Car", from downtown Wilmington all the way to the "Hammocks" (Ha...

My granddaughter, Zoe, turned 7 a couple of days ago. Zoe is very small for her age, she tips the scales at a whopping 31 pounds! and is still having to suffer the indignity of riding in a car seat. She also only has 4 toes on each foot. That's no problem, she was walking at 9 months and my daughter has always treated it like it's normal, putting her in sandals and taking her for pedicures -- that's a whole other blog, but Zoe thinks she should get a discount since she only has 8 toes -- great attitude! Zoe loves to wear those ridiculous plastic high heels for kids. She's quite a sight prancing around in the kitchen helping her mom fix dinner. Anyway, the other day she told her mom, "These are 4-toed high heels. Rachel (her cousin) has 5 toes and she just can't get her foot in these! Is...

Well the season has started and with it comes the trash....So once again I will repeat myself....Here is reminder - Let's take care of our environment! Your litter Box - As I was walking the beach a few days ago with a friend and fellow colleague, and her 2 beautiful Golden Retrievers, we stepped into a large mound of Doggy poo covered in sand.... I said to her, It is no wonder they don't allow dogs on the beach 6 months out of the year - Your Trash Can - On a side note, My husband has recently taken up metal detecting....  I know, I know - But he loves it....  The interesting thing is as he walks the beach looking for long lost treasures and change, he mostly finds pull tabs, cans, and other trash, buried sometimes 1 foot below the surface!  Why would you bury your can a foot down in s...

Wrightsville Beach, NC - White Sand being DREDGED for the BEACH   YES WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH - will have sand this year. The dredging boats and barges are working overtime in the channel pumping sand up from the channel and piping it to the pristine beaches of Wrightsville and Masonboro Island. THis is a very expensive proposition for the government and state but totally worth it as our tourists certainly expect the gorgeous white sand of Wrightsville to be there when they want to sun in it, play in it and relax on it. Don't worry folks when you come to town there will be sand....
