A friend and client of ours has opened a furniture store in the historic "Frog Level" area of Waynesville. Our Rotary Club of Waynesville meeting Friday was held outside at the Waynesville Country Club instead of our normal inside location, for a couple of good reasons (a raptor and a snake), courtesy of the Balsam Mountain Preserve Nature Center. As part of the Balsam Mountain Trust, the Balsam Mountain Preserve Nature Center at Balsam Mountain Preserve documents and preserves the natural as well as cultural history of Balsam Mountain.  View the Nature Center site map here.  The Nature Center presents programs, when asked, educating the public about the Balsam Mountain Preserve Nature Center and the ecosystem on Balsam Mountain. Late yesterday afternoon I took another drive out to Boyd Mountain,  and I returned home with my camera once again filled with more beautiful flower photos. Soon fall will change the landscape and colors of the beautiful property owned by the Boyd family, and my passion for bright colors will be abated by the gold, green and orange leaves painting the mountains, and the 'ripening' Christmas trees that fill the rolling terrain of Boyd Mountain Log Cabins and Christmas Tree Farm. I will always find an excuse to drive out there! The pink petals of this flower, beautifully lit by the late afternoon light, remind me of the 'Doll Cakes' that my mother made for me and my sisters many years ago in Hawaii. Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation's Annual Downtown Waynesville Dog Walk August 9th was a barking success! This Saturday (August 9th) is Sarge's Third Annual Downtown Waynesville Dog Walk, which is Sarge's largest fundraiser. The walk starts at 10 a.m. in front of the Courthouse. If you aren't registered yet: "Pre-registration will be Thursday, August 7 and Friday, August 8 from 12:00 noon until 6:00 pm at the WNC Visitors Center. Registration is $15 per person. Kids under 12 are free when accompanied by a registered adult. At the pre-registration, walkers will turn in their forms, donations and pledge sheets and pick up their goody bags and dog bandannas. Tee shirts are free to registered walkers who collect $15 or more in donations or choose to pay an additional $15."
