Sunset Beach, NC Hurricane Irene Update Hurricane Warning is effective for the Sunset Beach area. Beginning at 8:30 am, Friday morning a voluntary evacuation will be ordered for anyone in mobile and manufactured homes or living in low lying areas prone to flooding. West Brunswick High School on Highway 130 in Shallotte will serve as a shelter and will open at 2:00 pm, Friday. This shelter will be pet-friendly.An Emergency Meeting of the Sunset Beach Town Council will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 10:00 am in the Town Hall Council Chambers to discuss a mandatory evacuation of the island due to the possibility of the bridge closing. Bounce This Along  U.S. Postal service sent out a message to all letter carriers to put a sheet of Bounce in their uniform pockets to keep yellow-jackets away. Use them all the time when playing baseball and soccer. We use it when we are working outside.. It really works. The Sunset Beach Turtle Watch Program is a private, nonprofit program that solicits volunteers to help monitor turtle nesting at Sunset Beach, North Carolina. Sunset Beach is the smallest of the Brunswick Beaches in North Carolina.   Members of the SSBTHP hold permits from the Non-Game and Endangered Wildlife Section of the North Carolina Wildlife Section of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission to monitor nests sites, strandings and hatchings. An interesting turtle fact ~ Nesting season begins on Brunswick County Beaches in early May thru August. Baby turtles begin hatching in late July and continue through October. Tuesday Treasures ~ Frank's Garden of Lilies ~Frank is not the "master gardener" of Sea Trail in Sunset Beach, but he does take pride in his lawn and flower beds. He does have the best yard in the neighborhood, (as far as he is concerned) and was devastated when "his" front lawn was dug up for sewer lines this winter. All is better, thanks to sod!! TUESDAY TREASURES FOR MY Active Rain FRIEND JUDY KLEM Judy Klem loves to garden and quite often she photoblogs some amazing photos ~ you can almost smell the fragrance as she explains the different blossoms. I, on the other hand, do not have a green thumb. I don't garden, I delegate, I admire, I appreciate ~   That said, I will tell you I was given a very small African Violet from my neighbor when I first moved into my house in Sunset Beach eight years ago. She presented "Her Treasure" to me in a small 3 inch clay pot and told me to water it from the bottom ~ Duh,   what?? The bottom, the bottom of what?? WOMEN FROM SUNSET BEACH ~ HAVING SOME FUN!! You gotta love THOSE SUNSET BEACH WOMEN ~  A fifty-ish woman from Sunset Beach was at home happily jumping on her bed and squealing with delight.
