Starting in September, most of the RTP commuters will have to find an alternate route to work. As with any growth comes some challenges. The new toll road will offer another choice to most of the RTP commuters from Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, South Raleigh and Garner. There is a half mile stretch of the NC 147 (Durham Freeway) spur that will be closed while work is done on the new road. The section that will be closing connects I-40 to T.W. Alexander Drive. Commuters will have to take alternate routes such as Davis Drive, NC Highway 55 and 54 but of course, you need to leave a lot of extra time if you have to travel through these highly congested areas during rush hour. Want to avoid the commute from the South and Western areas of the Triangle to RTP and the toll road? Buy a home in No...

The more knowledge you have, the better you can protect yourself. There are a number of homes in the floodplain that you would not expect. In the Raleigh area, we have a lot of rivers that wind through the area that may be dry one day and filled with water the next day after a hard rain. Typical home owners insurance policies do not cover flooding. If your home is in a designated flood hazard area, your lender will require you to buy flood insurance as a condition for obtaining a government backed loan. Flood insurance is not as expensive as most may think. It depends greatly on the elevation of the home with respect to the flood plain. Your insurance agent should be able to answer all of your questions regarding flood insurance. It is always a good idea to protect yourself. AT the Capi...

According to the National Association of Realtors chief economist, existing home sales numbers are expected to rise gradually, having underperformed over the last couple of years. The number of all cash sales are increasing due in large part to the stock market recovery. Wise investors are transferring money from stocks to real estate again. The big thing to note here is that NAR is predicting that interest rates will rise gradually to 6% by 2012. I just had a client lock in a 3.875% 30 year fixed loan with no fees! This is amazing. Get out there now and buy that house before interest rates rise. They can only go up from here. Interest rate is the largest determining factor in housing affordability.
