I often talk about Pinehurst as if the Village and the Resort and Country Club are one in the same. And visitors to the area may come to the same conclusion. However they are two distinctly different entities that work well together. The Pinehurst Resort began in 1895 by James Tufts.  It has 3 hotels, 44 Villa Rooms, and 30 condos. There are 8 - 18 hole golf courses including the famous Pinehurst #2 golf course. There is a public golf clubhouse with the Donald Ross Grill for dining, and a private members club with locker rooms, dining and meeting rooms. In addition to golf Pinehurst offers 24 tennis courts on which the North Carolina State USTA league championships play yearly. There are social tennis matches as well as competitive area league play and tournaments. There is also a sepa...

Golf tournament called Purple Ball in Foxfire today just Minutes from Pinehurst. Today is February 13th and the sun is shining and the temperatures are in the upper 50's and may reach 60 this afternoon. What a perfect day for a country club member golf tournament. Foxfire is a country club and Village 10 minutes from Pinehurst and they scored big today with big turnout for their tournament and a lovely day to enjoy it. This tournament is called Purple Ball - now I am not a golfer so I can't explain all the rules to you. I do know that this is a  Foxfire County Club members only tournament. There are teams and one person on the team plays the purple ball. The other team players have a regular white golf ball. And that is about all I know about the Purple Ball game. Finally in - the January 2011 residential sales statistics for the Pinehurst NC area real estate. Looking at this graph you might think things are not all that great for Pinehurst area homes sales. So to understand what is going on you need a bit more information. Even though gross sales were down over December 2010 this is usually the case from December to January. Even though January 2011 looks not much better than January 2010 this is deceiving. January 2011 sales had an increase in unit sales of about 20% over January 2010 (61 vs 50). Average prices fell in January 2011 from January 2010 by about 20% (280,000 vs 230,000). This isn't as bad as it seems. I think the significance is the increase in unit sales year over year during the same time period. Why? Because at the peak of the ...

Looking for real estate in Pinehurst, NC usually includes the community of Pinehurst #6 because of the wide range of available properties. I remember the day I took this photo of the golf course known as Pinehurst #6. It was a beautiful fall day with warm weather and cool shadows making for a lovely scene. Imagine living along this course and enjoying these views every day! Pinehurst #6 is a community in Pinehurst surrounding this golf course which is not adjacent to the main Pinehurst club house and other courses. Although as a member you would have access to the main clubhouse and courses #1-5. Pinehurst #6 offers affordable single family homes and condos along with much higher end homes and everything in between. Currently there are 46 condos or single family homes available. They a...

The Pinehurst Area has a great little place called the Sunrise Theater and they need your support. Among the many great shows the Sunrise brings to the Pinehurst/Southern Pines area - one that might be in jeopardy is the encore showing of the Opera's performance at the Met. The Sunrise was originally built as a hardware store in 1898 and became a movie theater around 1940. It stayed a theater for about 40 years then closed it's doors. Some thought permanently. It was reopened in the 1990's by the Arts Council of Moore County and then transferred to the Sunrise Preservation Group in 2005 and is managed and owned by them to this day. Near Pinehurst - the Sunrise is located on Broad St. in the downtown area of Southern Pines. Its event calender is a mix of off mainstream films, some mains...

Looking for places to go watch the Super Bowl in the Pinehurst area this Sunday? Here are a few suggestions. Of course these all have lots of TV's for watching the game. The Hickory Tavern - 9735 Hwy 15/501 Pinehurst, NC 920-235-3850. - They are offering a prize of up to $25,000 during the big game. Call for details. This restaurant has lots of big TV's that can be seen from anywhere in the restaurant. The Bell Tree - 155 NE Broad St. inSouthern Pines, NC 910-692-4766. There will probably be some specials for the big game - though none had been announced as of today. There are plenty of TV's so you won't miss a second of the game. This is a smaller venue than Hickory Tavern and it has a nice home town pub feeling. Dugan's Pub - 2 Market Square in the Village of Pinehurst, NC. 910-295-34...

I've been going through my old photos and scanning them into the computer for safe keeping and for sharing, too! I came upon this photo that was taken in August of 2004 during a trip through New England. If memory serves me correctly, this is in front of a 'Dog Art Gallery' in Woodstock, VT. I could not resist, the temptation was too much....I added my pup to the Dog Walker Sculpture in front of the Gallery. CAN YOU TELL WHICH ONE IS MY BASIL??? (He's such a good sport!)       Basil is also my Backyard Inspector, so if you're looking for a Home in Pinehurst....We can Help! www.ThePinehurstBlog.com www.BloggingInThePines.com www.VillageAcresOfPinehurst.com

The Pinehurst area has many restaurants and if you want follow me on FourSquare you'll see some of my favorites. This blog actually came about because of the funny comments I've been getting from friends about all the restaurants I check in with using FourSquare. I thought why not write a blog about it and maybe you can follow along as I dine through the Pinehurst area. (believe it or not - I haven't gained weight!) Many are probably asking "what is foursquare". This is a website and smart phone app for checking into different places and it is mostly just for fun and staying in touch with friends. Each time you check in you can tell foursquare to update other social sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Also, when you check in you get points, badges, and the person who most visits a par...

This is the thermometer on my screened-in porch (in the shade) at about Noon today!I think we actually got up to 70 something by day end.SPEECHLESS...It is still January!!!   The sun was shining and it was an amazing day so I leashed up Basil & Bree Bree and we went for a long, long walk through the Village Parks.(Vince was on the golf course...I have a shoulder issue right now) Basil couldn't help himself when we passed by the big red fire hydrant.Poor 'lil guy didn't learn how to raise his leg like a REAL BOY DOG. After about 2 hours in the park, we headed back home and this was the view through the pine trees around 4:30. An amazing January Afternoon in Pinehurst!!!

SUNDAY BRUNCH IN & AROUND PINEHURST     I LOVE BRUNCH!!!  It's not breakfast, it's not lunch...it's BOTH presented in a delicious fashion.  Some restaurants choose to take the day off on Sunday's, but there are several others that are OPEN & READY to serve you an amazing Brunch.  I've dined at all the restaurants that I'm going to list here and I don't necessarily have a favorite.  They are all wonderful 'Local' establishments that are each unique unto themselves.  As a matter of fact, you should try them ALL!      Table On The Green offers traditional Southern breakfast items along with Thai inspired cuisine.  Brunch is served 10am-2pm and the average price is $7.  They are located within the Midland Country Club at 2205 Midland Drive in Pinehurst.  Go early, take your clubs and play 9...

Pinehurst NC Real Estate - What a Great Place to Retire. I had been working with these clients for about a year to help them find that perfect retirement home. Going over our email correspondence I came up with the following question for Bob's Never answer the same question twice contest. "Hi Dawn, I know we have an appointment with the Home Inspector on Wednesday at 1:30 but who lets the appraiser in? Is there an opportunity for me to take measurements while he/she is there or is it better for me to make myself scarce? Ted" This lovely couple was always so considerate in all their questions and requests. I answered by telling them first that appraisers in the Pinehurst area usually call the listing agent to gain entry to the house. It would not be a problem for him to be there at the ...
