Matthews Alive (previsously called the stumptown festival) is an annual festival on Labor Day weekend in Matthews NC with lots of arts and crafts, good food, good music and a good time! It's a tradition!  Downtown Matthews will host the 21st annual Matthews Alive Festival over Labor Day Weekend.  South Trade Street closes from Friday through Monday so that carnival rides and a midway can be set up next to Stumptown Park.  Over 160 booths featuring crafts are erected around the Matthews Community Center and Matthews Elementary School.  Two outdoor stages provide the setting for musical acts and children's entertainment.  When it gets too hot for another ride or another booth, you can cool off inside the Cultural Center with more entertainment and a quilt show.  On Monday morning, you can participate in a 5K race.  Monday is also the day for the Antique Car and Motorcycle Show in front of the Town Hall. This year the event starts on Friday August 30, 2013 and ends on Monday September 2, 2013. I read an article the other day that I found interesting and not so surprising.  It looked at all the cities in the state of North Carolina and deciphered based on certain criteria which ones were the best cities and most suitable for young families to move to and raise a family.   Choosing to live in Matthews, NC. I was curious on how my town stacked up against all the towns and cities in North Carolina.  In fact only one other town in the immediate area placed higher than Matthews, NC. in terms of best places for young families to raise children.  Indian Trail, NC. placed 5th and Matthews placed 7th according to the study.
