I live and work in a wonderful neighborhood in Hubert NC located very near Camp Lejeune Marine Base in Jacksonville.  It sits on the banks of  picturesque Queens Creek and is home to some of the nicest and friendliest people you'll ever meet. There are actually two adjoining subdivisions, Kingsbridge on  Queens Creek and Kingsbridge II and a new one now under construction Kingsbridge Estates.   This past Saturday these two subdivisions joined forces and  held a block party.  It was a great time for neighbors to relax, catch up, eat some delicious food and enjoy each other.  The neighborhood organizers went all out.  The street was blocked off, there was a tent, lots of games for the kids and food, boy was there food!  There was Eastern North Carolina barbecue (if you've never had Easter...

It's affecting everyone all across the country, gas prices that is. No matter whether you own a vehicle or not, you are affected by the ever increasing fuel prices that we are now experiencing. The cost of food, clothing, housing, travel and pretty much anything you need and/or use, now costs more due to the increase price of fuel. There are different schools of thoughts how we can lower the cost of fuel and I certainly do not have a crystal ball. I am not convinced that there are any easy answers. In the meantime, I am looking for the least expensive gas in my area and my guess is so are youHere is a site (udated daily) you can check for the lowest gas prices in Hubert and Swansboro North Carolina. Scroll down for other towns in the vicinity such Jacksonville, Richlands and Camp Lejeu...

Hubert, North Carolina is a marvelous place to live and raise a family.  The climate is mild, the area is surrounded by beautiful waterways which provide wonderful water related activities, the beaches are clean and uncrowded and it is convenient to an airport, an interstate highway and Camp Lejeune Marine base.  Did I mention vegetation?  Our mild climate and growing season is conducive to growing beautiful vegetables  and plants including POISON IVYAre you familiar with poison ivy?  It is an innocent looking plant that seems to make its way into the most unlikely areas.  Poison ivy consist of 3 leaves with the middle leaflet having a much longer stalk than the two sides ones.  The leaflets can be smooth or toothed and can vary tremendously in size from less that 1/2 " to over 2".  It ...

The weather man says we might get snow!               On the coast of Eastern North Carolina, that's a big deal.  We have not had any snow in the last few years.  Well, maybe we have had some flurries but no accumulation of any kind.My 3 1/2 year old has never seen snow and so we are gearing up for this event.I know, I know you people in the North think we are crazy but you have to understand where we're coming from.  I grew up here on the coast of North Carolina and I can count on one hand the times in my life time that we had a significant snow...meaning more than 2 inches. When I was a teenager a friend's family invited me to go to Florida with them for a few days during Christmas vacation.  The plan was to return home on December 24th.  Would you believe it?   The coast of North Car...

I am so fortunate that many of my clients become friends and neighbors.  A couple, whom I sold a house to about a year ago, invited my daughter and me to their New Year's Day Brunch and Polar Plunge. The invitation read "bring a salad or dessert and your swim suit".      January 1st 2008 was a marvelous Eastern North Carolina day in Hubert, N C with the temperature very much above our average normal January high of 54.   Even so, I knew the water would be too cold for me to go in.We arrived around noon to find lots of familiar faces, neighbors and good food.                                                                                                       Much of the conversation was about the unseasonal warm weather and the upcoming dip in the pool.  My 3 1/2 year old kept saying sh...

Yesterday afternoon I was driving back to Hubert, N C and as I crossed the high rise bridge over Bogue Sound, I made the decision to go back and take some photos of the gorgeous view and share with you today.I hope you enjoy and appreciate these as I felt I was risking my life standing on the bridge inches (well, it felt that way) from the cars and trucks zooming past me as I clicked away.                                                                                                                                                                                                               Photos Property of Cynthia Tilghman   Cynthia Tilghman, Realtor®   Onslow County Home Specialist  910 459 918     Contact meKingsbridge Realty, Inc., Making Houses Homes We take pride in assisting f...

Isn't it funny (and helpful) the way you get ideas for blogs from other peoples' posts.  This morning I was commenting on  Real Estate and Zucchini Bread by Diane Velikis when an idea struck me.  I love it when an idea strikes because many time I have to dig for one.If you've read my blogs you probably already know, that I enjoy cooking.  My 3 1/2 year old enjoys helping me and I believe it is a wonderful way for us to spend time together plus it is a time for learning different skills(measuring, chopping, etc.) an appreciation for different foodsthe importance of team workhow to follow a plan (the recipe)the importance of timing  Back to the idea that struck me this morning "perhaps the way to a listing is through a client's stomach".  This is not a totally new idea to me but I'm just ...

What is it about a hurricane or other impending disasters that excite people.  Maybe excite is not the right word but I have observed that people become very animated and excited (sorry, that's the word I keep coming up with) when the weather forecaster start telling us we have a storm off our coast. Is it..........Because we're all in it together and thus we feel connected?Because there is something primal in our human nature that needs a challenge to nature? The same force that pulls us to the site of a fire or a car wreck?I grew up on the beach in Eastern North Carolina-- in fact across the street from the ocean so I have witnessed this all my life.  Once a hurricane is forecast for the area, everybody rushes to the grocery store for BatteriesCanned goodsWaterStanding in long check out...

What house features are most important to today's Buyers?  A builder I work with is getting ready to open a new section of his subdivision  in Hubert, N C just outside Swansboro. We are in the process of choosing house plans and planning what will be included in these houses.  The topic of our current discussion is "features". It occurred to me that there is no better source of information as to what features are most important to today's Buyers than my fellow ActiveRainers. Help me out here and rate these features on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being most important.  Also feel free to add others that I may have omitted.  Thanks for your help.Photo courtesy of Flikr by it's nesses Hardwood floorsGranite counter topsCeramic tileWhirlpool tub                                                    ...

We visited Swansboro yesterday, now we're moving on down the road into Hubert, N C. in Onslow County, N C.  It is very difficult to know where one ends and the other begins.  Hubert has a post office but no downtown, it is more of a residential community with small, mostly locally owned businesses located primarily along Highway 24 otherwise known as Freedom's Way(so named because this is the route the marines travel back to their home base when returning from overseas conflicts and duties).  There are still a few small farms in the area with their roadside stands offering their vegetables, fruit, flowers and homemade goodies during the appropriate seasons.  There are several marvelous neighborhoods and the range of house price and size is very broad.  One of the most notable and desir...
