Hendersonville NC Gardening 2010 I got out early this morning to check my garden and see what needed to be done before the sun got too hot for it. I had been sick off and on the last three weeks with of all things, a sinus infection. So after this much time, and a lot of rain, it is a mess back there. I weeded and found that my cucumbers were iterally taking over the back end of the garden, so I got them tied up onto bamboo tri-pods. Last year I had purchased the book Edible Estates:Attack on The Front Lawn by Fritz Haeg. If you love gardening and hate mowing (like me) this is an excellent book for ideas. The idea for the book was to take several lawns across the country that had high visibility to neighbors and then kill the grass and plant only edible landscaping. The book shows the ya...

Pita Express Middle Eastern and American Cuisine Hendersonville NC   Today I was previewing homes with another Realtor and we stopped at the new Pita Express. It opened up a few months ago in the old Doughboy Donuts shop that sadly closed it's doors after years of serving the south side of Hendersonville. It started as just lunch, but has now expanded to breakfast as well.                                                                                  So today we tried lunch. It was fantastic. I had the Falafel and Humus pPatter. Beautiful, huh? The food was quick and really fresh. And the prices were very good. So if you are in the south part of town, give it a try. Pita Express is located at 1034 Greenville Highway, you can eat in or take out.

Thanks to a stimulus grant, Henderson County has broken ground on its own CNG station.  CNG (compressed natural gas) is a cleaner alternative to propane, gas or diesel and can save the county around $1.50 per gallon once the CNG conversion is completed.  Another positive reason to use CNG is that it decreases our nation's dependence on foreign oil, the base for our petroleum use.  Construction of the CNG filling station is expected to be completed by this October. While Henderson County vehicles will be converted to CNG (two CNG-run buses have already been purchased for the Apple Transit System), the goal of the new filling station is also to get Henderson County residents to consider using CNG in their personal vehicles instead of other, harsher fossil-based fuels, such as petroleum-ba...

I just finished reading The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. I have to say that it was so gripping I could not put it down and literally read it in one evening. If you are a dog lover as I am, you will love this book. It is told from the "human dog" Enzo's perspective, and is humorous, heart wrenching and everything in between. It is so much about the love between the pet and the pet owner. And it is so much more, with life analogies that one can take to heart in one's own life. Just let me warn you that you will need several hankies. Tears for joy and sorrow are big in this book. Now that I am done with the book and zoomed through it for the story line, I really need to go back and give it a serious read for the really good lessons I can take with me along the road to life....

This is a free event that will be occurring every Friday night from June 11 until mid August. Music starts at 7:00, and continues until 9:00pm. Just bring a chair and your ears. Food vendors will be present as well.   And don't forget the Monday Night Dance on Main Street. Starting July 5th, this free event will run into August as well.

The Magnolia Trees have been blooming here in Hendersonville NC. You can see them here and there around town, and they are looking really good this year. If you are not from the South, or have not spent a lot of time here, these are a very southern tradition. This one was sited right on Main Street, across the street from the Marble Slab Creamery.

Saddlebrook Townhomes are located south of Downtown Hendersonville, close to the Flat Rock area. Built in the early to late 90's, they have remained a great value in our market. Western NC Air Fair This Weekend -- Hendersonville North Carolina This annual event runs this Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM until 5 PM.  I live nearby and took a ride out to take a peek this morning around 10:30 and it was already very busy with lots of folks coming by.  It was quite warm and sunshiny but it didn't seem to be bothering anyone.  The kids were loving riding in the grounded "ornithopter".  This gadgets engine makes sputtering sounds while pulling the kids who are sitting in cars behind the engine.  The kids can also sit in and work the controls of one of the replicas and a Cessna 1940 era plane.Planes seemed to be coming and going continuously as were the helicoptor rides.  There is a World War II Stearman biplane which is also giving rides.  As I live nearby I didn't sta...

Most people are today understand that we need to help out the burden placed on our planet by "going green".  This means reducing your carbon footprint wherever possible by reducing the amount of waste you create, reducing the amount of energy you consume and reusing and recycling items whenever possible.  ECO's Marvelous Malarkey group has put together a fun Full Moon Follies fundraiser in downtown Hendersonville on Saturday, June 26, 2010. ECO has kept the idea of "thinking locally" firmly in mind when developing this event.  Local businesses and restaurants have donated food and beverages.  Local printer Hendersonville Printing Co. was hired by ECO to create the invitations.  And local talent will be performing, including Hendersonville's very own all female a cappella group The Atomi...

I drove by Aunt Adeline's Bed and Breakfast in Hendersonville NC last week and the building really caught my eye. It is a beautiful older home and has a lot of gorgeous old trees. And I love the stone work that surrounds the property, from the stone on the front porch, to the rock wall that surrounds the property. I found it online and did some research. It was built around the turn of the century and is listed on the Federal Register of Historic Homes. It is located just North of Downtown Hendersonville, in Historic Hyman Heights. Aunt Adeline's has a dining room and a library for it's guests, and four beautiful rooms. It is in a quiet residential neighborhood that is excellent for strolling and looking at other Historic Homes. Just minutes from downtown and Patton Park, good dining an...

Inn on Church, Hendersonville NC Has New Owners.  Early May the Inn on Church was saved from closing its doors when a new purchaser stepped up and closed the deal. The former owners, Steve and Brenda Merrefield, had purchased the Inn in 2006.  The current economy which created a drop in tourism made it difficult for the Merrefield's to continue so they made the decision to put it on the market. The new owner, Sydney Slome, made a trip from his location in Chattanooga, Tennesee when he learned the Inn was up for sale.  He's in the business and has several other lodging establishments.  He liked the location of the Inn in downtown Hendersonville and its convenience to walking to sites of local interest and shopping.  He especially liked the small town feel of Hendersonville and diverse popu...
