Fall is by far my favorite time of the year.  It’s not to hot - not to cold and the leaves on the trees transform into beautiful hues of red, yellow and orange.  The second week in October is usually when the leaves are at their peak.  Until then I wake up and peak outside my window like a child looks for their Christmas present.  I'm never disappointed by what I see.   Happy fall everyone!

The Apple Festival is a wonderful family friendly event.  I look forward to it every year.  This year my daughter Isobella danced on the big stage with other talented dancers under the direction of Mrs. Pat - the owner of Pat's School of Dance. It was her first performance in front of a live audience, so I told her to smile and most of all have fun! The dancers wowed us with their dance routine but Isobella surprised us all when she danced so hard her shoe came completely off near the end of the performance!  She cried a little since she didn't get to show us her "big finish".  I hugged her and told her daddy and I were so proud of her.  We spent the rest of the day taking pictures of Bella riding the kid friendly rides, shopping at Dancing Bear Toy Store and eating ice cream at Marble ...

Have You Ever Felt Like A SLOB?!  Buy a carpet cleaner and it will bring you to your knees! Since we have 2 dog kids I decided that instead of calling the carpet cleaning folks again we'd invest in a carpet cleaner and do it ourselves when we felt it needed it. Soooo, Marvin goes off to Walmart and comes home with our new Bissell Carpet Cleaner.  Extracts it from the confines of the box and assembles it.  And we're ready -- so we think.  Not really reading the instruction booklet we/HE started.  First thing is attachment hose is flopping all over while hubby is pushing the machine back and forth over the carpet -- without pushing the "magic" button that releases the cleaning agent!  After some screaming back and forth like the Hatfield's and the McCoy's (I'm sure the neighbors loved it...

64th Annual NC Apple Festival 2010 Here are some images from a day at the 64th Annual NC Apple Festival in Hendersonville NC I was excited to see so many people in Historic Downtown Hendersonville for this fun event. It was wall to wall people and there was merchandise and food and crafts and music everywhere I looked. And the weather was so cooperative, giving us a sunny and moderate day for being outside.  It looks like tomorrow will be more of the same. I hope that if you are in the area and have not been, you will join the local merchants and vendors for this great event. There really is something for everyone! Who was having more fun on this ride?

A Good Looking Visitor Stopped By Today in Hendersonville NC:  I just wanted to share one of Mother Nature's beautiful creatures.  Mr. Willie (canine kid) and I were just returning from an outside trip when this butterfly came gracefully flitting about.  Than it decided to take a break and rested on the side of our utility building.  I told my hubby I was going for the camera and he said why, did I think this creature was going to wait for me?  Well it did and here it is in all its beauty. Don't miss Hendersonville NC's 64th Apple Festival Labor Day weekend 2010 It is that time of the year again. Labor Day in Hendersonville NC is always the Big Apple Festival Event. Did you know that North Carolina is ranked #7 in Apple Production? And that Henderson County produces 65% of all Apples grown in the state? That is a pretty good record.  The Apple Festival is in it's 64th year and that means they have it down to a science. This is one of the biggest events of the year and you will find everything related to apples, including some of the best home cooked food, of course with apples in it. There will be music and crafts and events going on all over the downtown area. Stores will be open so that everyone can see what a great collection of fine stores we have.  Start off this fes...

Last Saturday, as part of the VISION Henderson County Class of 2010-11, we visited the Hendersonville Train Depot just off of Historic Seventh Avenue.  It was my first time there and I was very impressed with the details that the Apple Valley Model Railroad Club have used on their different train setups.  The Depot is open every Saturday from 10 am until 2 pm and admission is free, but donations are accepted.  Over 100 years old, the Depot was leased to the City of Hendersonville by Norfolk-Southern There is a special section for children that features "Thomas-the-Train" and other trains that is located in the back room only about three feet off the ground. Members of the Railroad Club are on hand to answer questions from visitors and are repairing trains and tracks as well as working o...

Hendersonville NC Events for the Weekend of August 27-29, 2010 The weather has really cooled off here in the mountains of Western North Carolina and Hendersonville, and we are experiencing the weather we are all more used to the last two weeks. It is a great time to be visiting. School is back in session and the town has returned to a slow pace and so it is easy to stroll downtown and enjoy the shops and great food we have. 'Tis the season for the best local fruit, readily available at so many local markets. The South Carolina Peaches are here, and in my humble opinion they are the best! (Sorry Georgia, your are good too) The blueberries are ready for picking and the apples are as well. I am seeing crab apples everywhere around town. So jump in and support your favorite local farmers.  ...

Guess Who Came To Dinner Last Night in Hendersonville NC!  Hubby was looking out the window and hollared to put some corn out -- the ducks were coming!  Walking down our paved street was Mama in front with her boisterous, quacking girls following -- all six of them!  They were heading for the woods on the side of our house where we'd been feeding ducks all summer long.  One time we had nine at one setting. Well this family came sauntering into where the corn should be and waited for me to get it on the table for them.  A few are out of camera range where I had another place setting. Unfortunately my trusty Kodak with the zoom lens was on the charger and I don't have a telephoto lens (yet) for my new Nikon and I made a of mess of the pic. Sue of Robin and Sue

The Inn On Church Street Hendersonville, NC -- Who Did It!! We had reservations at the Inn On Church Street in downtown Hendersonville NC on Saturday evening.  Actually we arrived early at 4:45 before most of the other guests for "the do". The Inn has been a Hendersonville fixture since 1921 and has specialized in Southern hospitality when in operating condition since then. During the depression the Inn was sold for $25 on the courthouse steps!  In 2000 this historic property escaped being demolished and was renovated and lovingly restored back to total respectability with a wonderful reputation for all who had the pleasure to experience spending some time at the Inn. We were there for a mystery dinner affair.  A crime would be commited while we were all gathered in the lobby celebra...

I’ve never had this kind of response when I am asked what I do for a living - until today.  I’m at a local store with my husband Ken and our 5 yr old Isobella.    Bella would love to have a big girl bicycle so we went to the bike department where she had to try every girlie bike in the store.  We were there for a while… A very nice man approached us and asked where he could find tube replacements for his bike.  We politely pointed where it was located which led to more questions.  When realized we didn’t work for the store he asked…. Well, what do you do for a living? “I’m a REALTOR®” I replied.  His reply, “Well bless your heart!”    Now I’d love to tell you that I had the quick whit to respond with something like “this is a great buyers market!” or “are you thinking of buying or selli...

This week has finally cooled off with several days of RAIN!!! I am really enjoying the cooler weather her these last few days. With endless, record breaking heat waves, it had become quite miserable. I am not big on AC so have never had it. I shocked myself last week when I said I may have to invest in a system after all. But now we are back to the real WNC weather pattern of cool and dry, even with rain. Our weather here is USUALLY very dry and very moderate. Summers hover in a comfortable level, and winters are mild (compared to where I moved from in Iowa anyway!) and so I feel I am in the perfect world. SO I hope this is the back to norm finally, for us. Even on dark and cloudy days, we still have gorgeous views and I am always happy to be here.
