Denver, NC Real Estate News

Denver, North Carolina, may be growing by leaps and bounds, but it still offers that small town charm.  You can begin the morning with a pancake breakfast at Webbs Chapel Church.  After you stuff your belly, (pancakes are my weakness) you can head over to the Fairfield Forest Parade in Westport.  This isn't going to be anything like the Boston Harborfest Parade, but it will be fun for the whole family to watch the decorated wagons and patriotic costumes traveling from Fairfield United Methodist Church to Peter-by-the-Lake Episcopal Church. Lake Norman will be lit up with fireworks this Friday night, July 4th.  The best spot is the lake.  If you or someone you know has a boat, you will see the skies light up and the waters reflect spectacular views of fireworks from every corner of the ...

Prior to getting married my husband and I discussed where we were going to make our home; the year was 1984. We came to the conclusion that Denver (Lake Norman) would be the best area to begin. We began here and have stayed here and can't think of anywhere else we would like to be. In the beginning though, I was really concerned that I wouldn't be able to adapt. Prior to this I lived in the "BIG" city Charlotte and loved it. Loved the closeness to everything from SouthPark to Harris Teeter, from movies to bowling alleys, from Carowinds to the coliseum and let's not forget Douglas International Airport. Everything at your fingertips!! And did I mention that I worked in Uptown Charlotte? Denver in 1984 was so different than it is today. Denver only had three neighborhoods: Westport, Count...

This year was the year that Lincoln County did property revaluations. Yes, most people have seen a HUGE increase and few have seen little or none. Due to the increase Lincoln County Commissioners have set the new tax rate at .57 per $100 valuation; which is four cents less. Commissioners had hoped to set the rate at .50 per $100, but in May voters approved a $44 million school bond referendum and rejected a quarter cent sales tax increase to fund it. Commissioners approved changes in the local fire district taxes, too. East Lincoln and Denver property owners should check with their insurance companies for possible rate reductions due to improved fire service ratings. Even though East Lincoln Sewer District is currently tapped out people in this district will see a reduction in the...

Shopping Without Money    Written by Cassie Hansley, Realtor® with Wilkinson And Associates in Lincolnton.      Are you one of those obsessive shoppers who often find themselves out shopping for stuff you don't need with money you don't have?  I know for myself, that I have done that in the past and I know plenty of people who still do that.  But, would you or anyone you know, shop for a home without having money? To my daily amazement, I find that the overwhelming answer to that question is "YES!"  Let me start by saying that I am not talking about pocket money, I am talking about enough money to purchase a home.  There have been many times just this year that myself or one of my fellow agents have talked with a potential home buyer about looking for a home and come to find out later t...

Looking for a group to socialize with now that you are a parent with no social life? My girlfriend introduced me to this group online: The Lake Norman Mommies! Here you will find local news, entertainment news, food news and business news. You'll also be privy to events around the area, like the recent "Cooking with Books." It is held at the library in Morrison and is for grades k-5. It has a chatroom that allows you to chat with other LKN moms around the area, too. When you feel comfy, add photos to the photo album or share recipes with other moms. It also has a mom's forum that discusses anything from fashion and parenting to latest movies and books you are reading. You can even find out where to volunteer! It's a truly great place to meet other moms and friends, and it is all ours!

What Is PMI? Written by Cassie Hansley, Realtor® with Wilkinson And Associates in Lincolnton. Check My Weekly Article out In The Whats Up Shopper If you have been thinking about buying a home and you have done any kind of research, then you have probably heard the term PMI. Well, just what is PMI? PMI is an acronym for Private Mortgage Insurance.  It is an insurance policy offered by private companies to protect lenders on their investments.  If you default on your loan and the lender has to sell the house to recoup their lost money, the PMI coverage gives them a margin to cover such things as legal fees, closing costs, discounts to the new buyer, or Realtor commissions. The PMI policy is used, in other words, to cover the amount of equity that you would have otherwise paid into the pro...
