Is it going to be a good year for us in 2011? Seems like I have been working harder than  ever trying to maintain a level of business  that allows me  to succeed and grow my business in 2011.  I find that it is harder and harder to obtain  and maintain my market share in the County.  I think that I am understanding that it is going to be very much like the last half of 2010.  That is ok with me....I did most of my business then. If you are having the same  problem, please share with me your ideas on how we can  move forth in getting our share and more.   With warm  regards,   Ginger Harper

Merry Christmas...  Today is a blessed day....I am sitting calmly with Jimmy resting after the children and the grandchildren came over to open their Christmas presents... There has been a  lovely hum of excitement all thru the house all day long. For Dinner, we set the table with nibble foods....I baked a ham and made rolls.  Then pimento cheese, chicken salad, tuna salad, potato salad, deviled eggs we enjoyed by all. Then fudge, peppermint sticks, candied almonds, peanut butter balls, M&M's and a variety of other christmas candies. It present, we are listening to the Messiah and resting from the events of the day. Nap would be good...maybe in a bit.. Merry Christmas to all.....and to all  a good day..   Ginger of Southport

"Everybody knows poinsettias are poisonous." "That's what many pet owners believe but it's not true" Dr Ernie Ward, our local veterinarian, has been fighting the rumor for years. This rumor apparently started back in 1919 when an army officer stationed in Hawaii found their 2-year old child dead underneath a poinsettia. The child was later found to have died of other causes but the national hysteria created by the initial news reports was to create a myth that's been particularly persnickety to purge... If a dog, cat or child eats a poinsettia, they'll probably have quite a case of GI distress or irritated skin but they'll live. For the hundredth time, poinsettias ARE NOT FATAL to dogs and cats!! Chocolate, on the other hand, is seriously toxic to pets. Chocolate is primarily toxic to p...

Meadowlands neighborhood and golf course located in Calabash, NC is only minutes from North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach, SC.  The original Meadowlands subdivision is surrounded by the Meadowlands Golf Course.  Most of the custom homes have the golf course as their back neighbor which means a view of the lush greens not the back of someone elses home.  There are a few mini sections within Meadowlands like Ridge Walk that has less then twenty custom homes on one street.  A large portion of the undeveloped land in Meadowlands was purchased a few years ago by Centex Homes, a national builder, and their section is called Savanna Lakes at Meadowlands.  View the video I made today of Meadowlands  www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUaIbYMpUH0

Brunswick Plantation residents will be hosting their annual crafts show this fall from 9 - 2 Saturday, October 23, in the Brunswick House in Calabash.  If you are planning a trip to the Carolina Beaches, you will enjoy touring this beautiful golf community and attending the craft show.  Each year the show attracts a wider and wider audience of those seeking unusual handmade gift items.  Last year's offerings were quilted and embroidered items, needlepoint, wreaths and other Christmas ornaments, jewelry, baskets, wooden bowls, note cards, pottery, and many, many other types of homemade treasures.  Neighbors in Service will be on hand to sell baked goods.  Much of the profit goes to support local charities and nonprofit organizations.

Last night, the sky was so strange.  On one side, the clouds (lots of rain this week) were tinged pink, grey, and yellow and on the Meadowlands Golf Course side the full moon was a quarter way up from the horizon so we had sun on one side and equal distance up was the moon...just beautiful.  I have spoken to several agents who have properties listed in this country setting and we just don't understand why the custom homes are slow to sell.  Sellers have lowered their prices almost matching the big box builder on the other side of the community.  In fact, the builder's properties are catching up due to the costs of materials.  Meadowlands is a sleeper community...beautiful rolling hills, no condos, few if any rentals on the custom home side, gorgeous clubhouse & pool, low homeowners, com...

Today as I was heading out the door to the office, I looked over at my neighbor's house.  Mr. Hickman loves vines and trees and his home is surrounded by many of them.  The thick twisted vine of a wisteria plant has engulfed the host tree giving it a beautiful purple glow.  I thought it was so gorgeous that I snapped a few pictures.  I shared them with a few colleagues at the office.  We chuckled about buyers who are new to our area who buy these plants at a nursery because they admire the beauty of a full grown plant.  By the time their plant is mature, they realize their error.  Once you plant it in the ground, it is almost impossible to get rid of it and it spreads to all your neighbors' yards.  They won't love you for it. It spreads naturally all through the landscape.  Southerners ...

Crow Creek Golf Plantation in Calabash, NC is a scenic golf community located between two major highways, highway 17 which is a four lane highway that runs from above Wilmington almost to Charleston.  Hickman road is heavily traveled by locals and trucks who want to avoid all the stoplights on 17.  It connects from Calabash to highway 9 in Little River, SC.  The 500 acres track was originally the McLambs' family farm.  Jerry McLamb watched the deterioration of farming and he began looking for another opportunity.  He met Robbins who had been an associate of Jack Nicklaus and thus began Crow Creek.  It is unique and special.  Neither man wanted a golf course like the big commercial ones in the Myrtle Beach area.  To read more about the course, click this link http://www.worldgolf.com/cou...

Melinda is the owner of one of our local restaurants, Calabash Deli located in the quaint little town of Calabash.  Her family has been involved in food service since the 1800s.  Her first relative opened a bar in Jamaica Queens.  Another relative delivered hot dogs and candy by horse and buggy to Long Island.  A deli opened in Glen Cove and another one opened in Hicksville. Do the names The North Port Village Gourmet Deli, The Cold Springs Harbour Deli, or The Country Plaza Delicatessen sound familiar?  They should.  They were in business for a long time and were all operated by her family members.  She opened The Calabash Deli in 1997 bringing five generation of experience.  The sandwiches are fantastic.  I love the all veggie on thick slices of fresh baked honey wheat.  They are so t...

Now, this is a Man that I held in Great esteem.  I grew up listening to him give our family the events of the world each night. We would sit around the TV and see all that was happening in the places we had only read about in books and newspapers. He is an American Icon...and he will be missed... Ginger of Southport
