I wanted to provide you with a little more information ..Surviving a Flood  blog. I thought you’d find it interesting to also see an image of the Missouri River as it stands today. Also, photos of the Remington Nature Center, the Hike and Bike Trails   along with the St. Jo Frontier Casino which are all along the same road as Heritage Park along the river and were all also tremendously affected by the ’11 flood. The Nature Center, Casino, and trail have all been renovated, repaired and are open for business! Amazing to think a year has passed…and with all the damage that was done to the attractions in St Joseph MO are back in business like it never happened.

This time last year the Mighty MO began to rise and quickly started pouring out into our city.  Day by day businesses, facilities, and roads were closed due to the high waters.  As the summer went on flooding continued, situations got better for some, and worse for others. (photo courtesy Beth Conway St Joe Mo) By the end of summer Heritage Park Softball Complex located on Waterworks Road, was completely under water and forced to close.  State tournaments were moved to other facilities in Missouri.  League play for the rest of the summer and fall was cancelled.  And for a few months, work crews were only able to access the facility by boat. (photo courtesy St Joe MO) One year later…it is hard to believe that the park has officially been re-opened and fields are ready for summer play!!  ...

St Joseph has 9 local museums that have kicked off a 2nd Series trading card promotion.  A collection of historical themed trading cards that showcase different exhibit items, famous people or hot spots that are unique to St. Joseph.  Not only am I excited to have some fun collecting these cards, but it will get me back into some local attractions that I haven’t been in for awhile.  I don’t plan to stop until I have all 9, I will post the cards as I collect them and give you tips on where you can as well collect them!  Read to have some fun?!?!  Typically this isn’t a place I’d go to look around and hang out, but it was a beautiful day and I decided I’d rather be outside than inside while starting to collect the local trading cards.  Many would consider it a creepy and unusual place to ...

And people say there is nothing to do in this town!! Working as a Realtor(R) I find myself spending more time showing and listing homes than I do taking time to really value what my town has to offer!  People relocating to the area always want to know what all there is to see and do, and even those that are just relocating to a new home within the city need reminded how lucky we are to live in a community that offers so many free and/or cheap family fun events.  This summer I am going to make it a point to explore and have some fun right here in my own backyard and I plan to share this information with you.  I hope you enjoy…feel free to join in on the fun!                         JUNE 8, 2012 St. Joseph Mustangs vs. Omaha at 7 PM at the Historic Phil Welch Stadium!$1.00 Beer, $1.00 Hot...

I know what you are thinking, a Tractor Parade how silly.       This is just not any Tractor Cruise but nearly 250 tractors rode 51 miles for Charities.  Many riders traveled from various states to participate in the ride and to once again ride with the Red Tractors and Green Tractors in Northwest Missouri.     As the ride started out they were hit by a storm, then the day turned to a perfect sunny afternoon to cruise through St Joseph on a tractor.     Although the grand total is not in yet, the Tractor Cruise normally raises about $30,000 or more.  This year the event raised money for Northwest Missouri chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Dream Factory.       I apologize that the photos are not high quality but they were taken with my IPhone when the riders approa...

When your mouth is watering for a nice, juicy steak where do you go?  The Hoof and Horn Steakhouse in St. Joseph, MO is known for its local flavor and serving up one of the best steaks ever!  Operating as one of St. Joseph's oldest restaurants on the old Stockyards grounds, serving excellent hand-cut aged beef and homemade specialties, I can't imagine any other place to go. The Old Hoof and Horn was built in 1898, the same year as the Stockyard Exchange Building.  The building originally began as a saloon and brothel.  In 1907 a retired policeman bought the building and turned it into a café.  It has since them carried on as a restaurant.  Jack and Rosie Miller purchased the building in 1963 serving up steaks that were butchered and aged right on-site.  They started a nice tradition i...

Such a wonderful time of year to take in Mother Nature, enjoy a nice walk outdoors and view the beautiful sceneries.  I'd like to share with you some information on the St. Joseph Parkway System and some photos I have along the parkway from last year.  I think it will be some motivation to get you all out for a little hike, bike or ride along the 26-mile system.   The St. Joseph Parkway System is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  It is 26 miles of parkway with 48 parks and facilities along the way.  You can drive the entire distance on street ways and you can also walk or ride your bike on the recently added hike and bike trail that ties in at different stops along the parkway.  Its original designers had a unique theory to their plan and left us with a great theme, ...

Today, I stopped and visited with Andy and Julie Madget, owners of Madget Demolition, INC.  My family has known the Madget family for 35 years or longer.   You never know what you might find in the "salvage" yard, there really is a little bit of everything.  You might be trying to fix up a house, buy some bricks to build a patio, or you might want a piece of terra-cotta to stick in your garden somewhere...you never know what you may find.   MADGET DEMOLITION INC. is a third generation demolition companythat has been demolishing commercial, industrial & residential structures that have out-lived their purpose for the past fifty years! The business was bought in 1960 by the late Bob Madget and currently is run by his son Andrew.  Andy's sons, Bobby & Tom now have joined their dad in the d...

Parents, grandparents, neighbors and relatives gathered this weekend for the Annual 4th of July, Children's Parade in our subdivision.  Most of the holiday weekend was wet, but the rain held off long enough to let the children's parade take place for the 45-50 kids that had planned all week to participate in the 3 block parade. Bikes, Trikes and Wagons came with excited kids dressed in colors of red, white and blue, to celebrate the 4th of July along with just having some good old fashioned fun.
